AIRC - Associazione Italiana Ricerca sul Cancro - START-UP GRANT - INVESTIGATOR
GRANT - MY FIRST AIRC GRANT.
L'Associazione Italiana per la Ricerca sul Cancro (AIRC) è un ente privato senza fini di lucro la cui
attività consiste nel raccogliere ed erogare fondi a favore del progresso della ricerca oncologica
e nel diffondere al pubblico una corretta informazione in materia.
Descrizione
L’8 febbraio 2013 l'AIRC ha pubblicato i bandi per nuovi progetti di ricerca, secondo le tre
tipologie di azioni finanziabili:
1. START-UP GRANT
2. INVESTIGATOR GRANT – IG
3. MY FIRST AIRC GRANT – MFAG
1. START-UP GRANT: riservato a giovani Principal Investigator con un eccellente curriculum,
preferibilmente under 35, con lo scopo di favorire la nascita e lo sviluppo di nuove unità di
ricerca indipendenti sotto la guida di giovani talentuosi. Sarà data priorità ai Principal
Investigator che intendano svolgere il loro progetto di ricerca presso istituzioni con le quali non
siano stati precedentemente affiliati. Per questo tipo di iniziativa è prevista la presentazione
del progetto in 2 fasi: entro il 4 marzo i proponenti presentano una pre-proposta contenente
una breve descrizione del progetto di ricerca e corredata da una lettera di impegno da parte
della Hosting Institution firmata dal legale rappresentante .I Principal Investigator che avranno
superato questa prima fase saranno invitati a presentare il progetto completo entro il 18
marzo. Il finanziamento AIRC per questa iniziativa consiste in un contributo di massimo €
150.000 all’anno per 5 anni. Le richieste di rinnovo devono essere presentate ogni anno.

2. INVESTIGATOR GRANT – IG : destinato a Principal Investigator esperti ed indipendenti con
un eccellente curriculum scientifico-professionale e responsabili di una propria unità di ricerca.
I Principal Investigator devono dimostrare di aver raggiunto indipendenza e leadership
scientifica e di avere pubblicazioni di alto livello in riviste con peer-review. Per questo tipo di
iniziativa è previsto un finanziamento triennale. Le richieste di rinnovo devono essere
presentate ogni anno.
3. MY FIRST AIRC GRANT: rivolto ad incoraggiare giovani Principal Investigator di talento a
presentare ad AIRC le proprie proposte di progetto. I proponenti non devono avere più 40
anni alla data di scadenza del bando (ammissioni di scienziati di età superiore sono previste
solo nel caso di giustificate interruzioni nell’attività di Ricerca, come specificato nel bando alla
voce “Research interruptions and Justifications”) avere un eccellente curriculum ed aver
maturato esperienze scientifiche all’estero. I Principal Investigator che abbiano già ricevuto un
grant da AIRC di qualunque tipo non sono soggetti ammissibili. Il finanziamento AIRC per
questo tipo di iniziativa consiste in un contributo massimo di € 75.000 all’anno per 3 anni (il
finanziamento non può coprire il salario del PI).

Ministero Affari Esteri - Bando per la raccolta di progetti congiunti di ricerca tra
Italia e Vietnam (2014-2016)
Descrizione
In attuazione dell'Accordo di Cooperazione Scientifica e Tecnologica fra il Governo della
Repubblica Italiana e il Governo della Repubblica Socialista del Vietnam, firmato ad Hanoi il 5
gennaio 1992, sono in fase di avvio le procedure per il rinnovo del Protocollo Esecutivo di
Cooperazione Scientifica e Tecnologica per gli anni 2014-2016.
Progetti finanziabili: Progetti di “Mobilità dei ricercatori” e Progetti di “Grande Rilevanza”.
Budget
Il contributo del MAE viene accordato a titolo di co-finanziamento del progetto, pertanto è
necessaria la partecipazione finanziaria del proponente italiano e/o di altri enti pubblici/privati
italiani o vietnamiti.
Per i Progetti di Mobilità: rimborso spese per le missioni.
Per i Progetti di Grande Rilevanza: cofinanziamento al progetto
I progetti congiunti di ricerca devono essere inviati, dal capo progetto italiano e dal capo
progetto vietnamita rispettivamente al Ministero degli Affari Esteri e all’Amministrazione
competente del Vietnam secondo le modalità specifiche indicate nel bando.
Il progetto, di durata massima triennale, dovrà essere redatto IN INGLESE.
Eleggibilità
Ogni ricercatore può inviare un solo progetto di “Mobilità dei Ricercatori”; l’invio di una
proposta per un progetto di “Mobilità dei Ricercatori” esclude la possibilità per il coordinatore
del progetto di richiedere il finanziamento per un progetto di “Grande Rilevanza”.

Pezcoller Foundation-ECCO Recognition for Contribution to Oncology.
Description
Amount
Eligibility
For 2013, the Pezcoller Foundation-ECCO Recognition for Contribution to Oncology will be
awarded to a single individual for his/her professional life dedication to the improvement of
cancer treatment, care and research.
The Award Ceremonies will be held in Rovereto (Italy), on 13 September 2013 and in
Amsterdam, During the 17th ECCO - 38th ESMO - 32rd ESTRO European Cancer Congress as a
Plenary Lecture to be delivered during the Presidential Session of Sunday 29 September 2013.
The award consists of a prize of 30.000 EUR and a commemorative plaque.

The award is open to all professions and specialties within the oncology field.
Nominations will be accepted for candidates irrespective of race, gender or nationality.
Institutions, groups or associations are not eligible. Self-nominations will not be
considered.
Candidates must be nominated on the official form by one who is, or has been,
affiliated with a university or medical institution.

European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO): Young Investigator Programme.
Description
Since its launch in 2000, the EMBO Young Investigator Programme (YIP) selects independent
scientists throughout the EMBC Member States. Young Investigators are selected for three
years, during which time they receive numerous benefits to help them establish their careers.
EMBO Young Investigators benefit from extensive networking opportunities, and other
financial and practical support.
Amount
Most EMBC member states provide a financial award of 15,000 euros per year for three years.
All current EMBO Young Investigators can also apply for small grants of up to 10,000 euros
from funds provided by EMBO Council.
The EMBO Young Investigator Programme is unique in its focus on networking. EMBO Young
Investigators are formally programme members for 3-years, and during this time are
encouraged to interact with each other, EMBL group leaders and the growing network of
former Young Investigators.
Applications are accepted from candidates who meet the following criteria:

Have been an independent group leader for at least one and not more than four years
at the application deadline, writing grants in their own name; reporting directly to
funding agencies and being responsible for supervising their own graduate students
and/or post docs.
•
Have at least two years of post PhD scientific experience and an excellent track record.
•
Work in the life sciences in an EMBC member state.
•
Have obtained sufficient funding to run their laboratory.
•
Have published at least one last author research paper in an international peer
reviewed journal after establishing an independent laboratory.
•
Are 40 years old or younger on the application deadline, unless exceptional
circumstances have significantly delayed career progression.
•
Are able to attend an interview in Autumn (normally mid to late October) in
Heidelberg.
Application to the EMBO Young Investigator Programme is via a two-stage application process.

MIUR/Ricerca - Bando per Potenziamento Infrastrutture Regioni della
Convergenza.
Descrizione
Il nuovo intervento lanciato dal MIUR rientra nel Piano di Azione e Coesione, in continuità con
le azioni promosse nell’ambito del PON Ricerca e Competitività 2007-2013, ed ha il fine di
rafforzare le infrastrutture di Centri di ricerca di elevata qualificazione attivi in ambiti e
discipline di particolare rilevanza strategica per lo sviluppo delle regioni dell’area Convergenza
(Campania, Puglia, Calabria, Sicilia).
L’obiettivo principale è individuare nuovi investimenti in grado di sostenere lo sviluppo del
sistema della ricerca e dell’istruzione nel Mezzogiorno, attraverso il potenziamento delle
strutture di servizio.
Budget
Il bando prevede risorse complessive per 76,5 milioni di euro, con cui sarà finanziato un
progetto per ciascuna delle tre linee d’intervento su cui si concentra l’impegno del MIUR, per le
Regioni della Convergenza.
Eleggibilità
Università, Istituti Universitari statali, Enti e Istituzioni Pubbliche Nazionali di Ricerca vigilati
dall’Amministrazione Pubblica Centrale e altri organismi di ricerca.

I progetti dovranno essere presentati entro le ore 12.00 del 3 aprile 2013, utilizzando il
servizio telematico SIRIO (http://roma.cilea.it/Sirio).

European CanCer Organisation (ECCO) – The 17th ECCO - 38th ESMO - 32nd ESTRO
European Cancer Congress Fellowship Grants.
Description
Through the generosity of the 17th ECCO - 38th ESMO - 32nd ESTRO European Cancer Congress
Sponsors, a number of Fellowship Grants are offered to young researchers (doctors and basic
scientists) from countries with limited resources to attend the Congress.
Amount
Each Fellowship Grant shall be worth a free registration, free accommodation for a maximum
of 3 nights and reimbursement of travel costs up to a maximum of 500 EUR (reimbursement
after the Congress).
To meet the requirements to be considered for a fellowship grant the applicant should:

Congress. Applicants whose abstracts have been accepted for an oral or poster
presentation at the 17th ECCO - 38th ESMO - 32nd ESTRO European Cancer Congress will
be considered first.
• Be under the age of 40 and have a primary focus in clinical or experimental oncology.
• Provide a letter of support from the Head of the Department/Organisation stating that the
applicant is not the recipient of any other financial support, including a copy of the
submitted abstract.
• Provide a two page CV (including date of birth).

Description

Congress Sponsors a small number of fellowship grants will be awarded to nurses and
radiotherapy technicians from countries with limited resources to attend the 17th ECCO - 38th
ESMO - 32nd ESTRO European Cancer Congress in Amsterdam.
Amount
Each fellowship will include:
• Free registration to the meeting
• Free accommodation in one of the selected hotels (maximum 3 nights)
• 500 EUR travel grant – to meet the travel expenses. The 500 EUR will be paid after the
event, upon submission of receipts.

Applicants should submit a short CV and a letter explaining the benefit for them in
attending the Congress. The application should be accompanied by a letter from the
Head of Department stating that the applicant is not the recipient of any other
financial support.

Applicants must be fluent in English.

European CanCer Organisation (ECCO) – Young Investigator Award.
Description
The ECCO/EJC Young Investigator’s Award is open to young basic scientists and clinical
oncologists of all disciplines relevant to cancer research. The Award will be given to a young
scientist or doctor in the field of basic, translational or clinical oncology research for recent
original work in cancer research, treatment or care.
Amount
The winner of the ECCO/EJC Young Investigator’s Award will receive a prize of 4000 EUR, free
registration, free accommodation for a maximum of 3 nights, reimbursement of travel costs
up to a maximum of 500 EUR (reimbursement after the Congress) and the opportunity to give
an oral presentation of the work at 17th ECCO - 38th ESMO - 32nd ESTRO European Cancer
Congress.

• Candidates should be junior (within 5 years of completion of PhD or specialist training).
• Candidates should have completed the submitted work in the period between April 2011
and April 2013.
• Submissions should be sent in by the candidate together with a reference letter from their
Head of Department.
• The work may be the result of individual research or the result of a thesis completed in the
field of basic, translational or clinical research.
• Candidates should commit themselves to write an original paper in English on the
scientific work carried out (for publication in EJC).
