harmful effects of abusive groups or harmful cults). • Liaison and collaboration with the military and
the development of tailored courses from 2004-2006 (arising out of supervision of PhD student whose
project involved working closely with the UK military). Specialist Areas of Research Interest: • Public
Policy in area of education, community regeneration and art, mental health and citizenship. • Social
Influence and the psychological effects of membership of high influence, high demand or cult like
social groups and settings. • Social identity in a range of organisational settings including high demand,
totalistic or cultic group settings – development of the ‘Totalistic Identity Theory’. • The psychology of
social groups and social identity with particular interest in the causes and effects of the psychological
salience of different levels of self-categorization and the relationship between different social identities.
• The effect of the local environment on self- identity, including the relationship between local and
national identity. Development of empirical measures of self-category accessibility, including the
development of an accessibility index for local area. • The relationship between person-specific aspects
of social identity and ethnocentrism. Social category salience as the psychological process involved in
attributions and inter-group interactions.

DELEGATE Scriptwriter of the RaiUno television programme “Heritage”, a journey through
Humanity’s Heritage A philosophy graduate, she specialized in Communications and Public Relations,
acquiring special skills and professional experience in both communications and promoting, cultural, art
and artistic events. Consultant for the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Fine Arts and Cultural
Heritage and Ministry for Equal Opportunities, Head of Communication’s Department for
International Institutions. Her career has entailed working for the International Film Studios at
Cinecittà in Rome, ANEC (The Italian National Film Makers’ Association), the Italian Touring Club
and also involved projects and marketing campaigns for multinational companies such as Walt Disney.
Among the number of artistic events she has been involved in, Elisa Greco was for more than ten years
Development and Public Relations Director of the Festival of Two Worlds. Scriptwriter for the
television programmes “Heritage”, RaiUno’s journey to the World’s Heritage, theatrical and multimedia
transmissions including “History in the Dock”. Jury member at various international competitions. She
has held a series of training courses including the Financial Newspaper “Il Sole 24”’s Business School.
As well as having written a string of magazine articles, she has taken part in several international
conferences, held the post of international project manager for business, cooperation and cultural
exchange programmes. Her research in the communication sector has been the subject of in-depth
academic studies (SDA Bocconi) as well as the focus of degree thesis (Florence, Faculty of Economics
and Commerce, Company Science Department). She has moreover received numerous national and
international accolades: Medal of the Prime Minister’s Office, CNPO 2000, Buena Vista International
Prize (1996), Walt Disney Prize (1995). She has been a member of the “Terziario Donna” National
Executive Council, of the Belisario Foundation and an associate member of the Disney Academy. She
is currently an Italian Public Relations FERPI Councillor and first enrolled in this organisation in 1985
as an accredited professional. In her capacity as a FERPI CULTURA National Delegate she has
promoted several projects: conferences, meetings, launching partnerships within the framework of ties
linking business and culture. She is at present a UNITED NATIONS WORLD FOOD
PROGRAMME COMMITTEE - Italy member and Development Councillor.

Gilles Pecout
Gilles PECOUT, born in Marseilles on 2nd December 1961, is a historian. Professor of Contemporary
History and Head of Department of History at the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) in Paris. He
furthermore holds the chair of Mediterranean Europe and Italy History at the Ecole pratique des
Hautes Etudes (Sorbonne). Former student of Paris’ École Normale Supérieure and an exchange
fellowship student of Pisa’s Scuola Normale Superiore, he is a former member of the École Française
of Rome (Palazzo Farnese). Member of editorial or scientific boards of the following magazines in
France, Italy, the United States and the United Kingdom: Histoire et sociétés rurales, Le Mouvement
Social, Memoria e Ricerca, Historia Magistra, Journal of Modern Italian Studies, European History
Quarterly, Bollettino di italianistica. Gilles Pécout is a member of the scientific board of Turin’s
FestivalStoria, of the scientific committee of the Fondazione Valenzi. He has been a member of
committee for the national celebrations of Garibaldi, the Napoleonic Decade and Cavour.
PUBLICATIONS His work deals with the history of Italy, France, Franco-Italian relations and the

Paolo Sannella
Born in Naples on 19th July 1939, he graduated from Naples University in 1961. He attended specialist
courses at the University of Leuven and at the John Hopkins University. From 1966 to 1973 he was a
professor at the National University of Zaire (Democratic Congo), teaching international politics and
political sociology, also holding the post of Head of the University’s Political Science and
Administrative Department. A Career Diplomat from 1973 to 2005, he has served in Somalia, Syria,
Austria, France (OCSE-Paris), Saudi Arabia, Angola (in a capacity as ambassador) and the Ivory Coast
(ambassador, accredited also in Burkina Faso, Niger, Liberia and Sierra Leone); Paolo Sanella is the
Founding Chairman of the “Centre de Recherches sur l’Etat en Afrique” CREA, whose head office is
located in Abidjan in the Ivory Coast. CREA is an African Centre, founded in Africa for Africa. It was
created to voice the needs and thoughts which had emerged in the historical-cum-political context of
the African Continent. Founded in 2005 on the inspiration of a predominantly African group of
diplomats, intellectuals and politicians, CREA is aimed at promoting thoughts concerning the
functioning of the State in Africa and encouraging meetings between “statesmen” and “men of
science”, favouring and identifying practical solutions, effective and appropriate for local realties. He is
also Chairman of the Relations Centre with Africa of the Italian Geographical Society, CRA/SGI
whose head office is in Via della Navicella, Rome.
