Un “Sacrificio” Intelligente per un Centro Sportivo Modello

obur et Fides. Forza e fede. Una storia sportiva che continua da oltre un secolo (fu fondata nel 1902) grazie alla forza e
alla fede delle persone che nei vari anni si sono avvicendate alla guida della polisportiva. Persone che hanno fatto scelte coraggiose per dare una prospettiva allo sport varesino. «Erano i primi anni Settanta e avevamo una squadra competitiva. Alla
fine del campionato Marco Veronesi, Claudio Guidali, Antonio Rodà, Beppe Gergati e altri pezzi pregiati furono ceduti alla
Mobilquattro, la seconda squadra di Milano. Con i soldi incassati costruimmo l’impianto di via Marzorati». Per Cesare Corti, uno
dei fondatori, insieme ad Annibale Zambelli, del movimento cestistico della Robur et Fides, quella scelta fu determinante
perché senza impianti e strutture lo sport non può crescere. «Finalmente avevamo un campo tutto nostro e una piscina – continua Corti – ed è da quel momento che la nostra società sportiva ha fatto un salto di qualità».
Un Complesso di Prim’Ordine
Sono passati quasi quarant’anni e grazie a quell’intelligente “sacrificio”, a cui si deve aggiungere anche l’ultimo investimento di tre milioni di euro, i varesini possono contare su un complesso sportivo di prim’ordine. In via Marzorati oggi
ci sono 4 piscine, 2 palestre per il basket, un campo di calcetto, una sala fitness di 300 metri quadri. Senza dimenticare
la struttura del Campus presa in affitto dalla polisportiva. «E’ stato un grande investimento – spiega Alberto Zambelli,
direttore dell’area tecnica –. Tutti hanno voluto metter il loro mattoncino perché la Robur et Fides è prima di tutto una società
di persone. L’ammortamento sarà rapido, perché le iscrizioni sono più che triplicate».

mica. E poi c’è l’amore viscerale per la pallacanestro, con i suoi 460 tesserati, che genera un movimento di atleti apprezzato in tutta Italia. La prima squadra, che milita nella serie B dilettanti, nel giro di cinque anni ha vinto due volte la
Coppa Italia, mentre le nove formazioni giovanili (dall’under 19 al minibasket) si fanno valere nei vari campionati di
categoria. «All’epoca – conclude Corti – la Robur era una palestra e una piscina. Oggi è una vera polisportiva».
Ecco l’Hub Australiano
Nel 2106 l’European Training Centre di Gavirate, meglio noto come hub degli australiani, compirà 100 anni. Risale,
infatti, al 2006 l’accordo tra l’Amministrazione provinciale e l’Australian Sport Commission per la realizzazione dell’opera. Forse, a quella data, il fatto che governi stranieri investono per costruire strutture sportive in altri paesi, sarà una
cosa normale. Al momento, quello di Gavirate rimane un esempio quasi unico, ma, secondo Warwick Forbes, rappresentante dell’Australian Sport Commission, questa soluzione è allo studio di altri stati come Canada e Cina. L’Amministrazione
provinciale, per la costruzione dell’edificio, progettato dagli australiani, che hanno fornito le attrezzature interne, ha
investito circa 5 milioni di euro. Investimento che sarà ammortizzato affittando la struttura agli australiani per dieci anni.
I benefici per il territorio sono evidenti: sul lago di Gavirate arriveranno ogni anno un migliaio di atleti con il loro staff,
i parenti e i tifosi, a cominciare da quelli che si dovranno preparare le Olimpiadi di Londra 2012. L’hub, che si sviluppa
su due piani e comprende tutti i servizi necessari (laboratori di analisi, sale di terapia sportiva, vasche termali, 25 camere doppie e mensa), sarà aperto anche agli sportivi del Varesotto. Rigoroso, misurato e funzionale, aperto all’ospitalità del nuovo “turista/residente
e sportivo” che in squadra sceglie la nostra terra come culla alle sue attività, l’European Training Centre

A clever “Offering”
For a model sport centre

obur et Fides. Perseverance and creed. This sport story has
been continuing for more than a century (it was opened in
1902), thanks to the perseverance and the creed of those people
who managed this sports club during the years. These persons
made bold choices in order to give an opportunity to sport in
Varese. «At the beginning of the Seventies we had a competitive team.
At the end of the Championship Marco Veronesi, Claudio Guidali,
Antonio Rodà, Beppe Gergati and other precious subjects were moved
to Mobilquattro, that is the second team of Milan. With the money
cashed we built the structure placed in Via Marzorati». In the opinion
of Cesare Corti, who is one of the founders – together with
Annibale Zambelli, of the basketball team of Robur et Fides, this
was a determining choice because without facilities and structures
sport cannot develop. «We had our own field and a swimming pool
at last – Corti continues– and from that moment our sports club
made a qualitative leap».
A first level structure
After almost forty years and thanks to that clever “offering”, to
which it is also necessary to add the latest three million euro
investment, people of Varese can rely on a fist level sports centre.
In this centre, placed in Via Marzorati, there are now four swimming pools, two basket gyms, a football field and a 300 square
metre fitness room. We do not forget the structure in Campus
rented by the sports club too. «This was a great investment – as
Alberto Zambelli, director of the technical area explains us – All people wanted to give their
brick and support the club, because Robur et Fides is firstly a form of partnership. The amortization
will be rapid, because memberships are trebled».
The sports club counts 2,500 athletes, that include members, agonists and amateurs following
swimming, judo and eurhythmics courses. Moreover there is a visceral passion for basketball,
that counts 460 members and generates an athletes’ involvement that is appreciated in all
Italy. Its first team, which is in the First Division, won twice the Coppa Italia in five years,
while the nine young teams (from under 19 to mini-basket) assert themselves in League
championships. «In the past –Corti concludes– Robur was a fitness centre and a swimming pool.
Nowadays is a real sports club».
Here is the Australian Hub
In 2016 the European Training Centre of Gavirate, better-known as the Australian Hub, will
be 10 years old. In fact in 2006 the agreement concerned the building of this hub was signed
between the Administration of the Province and the Australian Sport Commission. Maybe
in 2016 the presence of foreign governments investing in sport structures abroad will be considered normal. At this moment the hub of Gavirate is an almost unique example, but in the
opinion of the representative of the Australian Sport Commission, Warwick Forbes, this
solution has been also studied by other countries like Canada and China.
The Administration of our Province invested about 5 millions Euro in the building of this
structure, which was projected by an Australian group that also supplied inside facilities. This
investment will be amortized by renting this building to Australian teams for ten years. The
advantages for our land are evident: Every year on the shores of the Lake of Gavirate will
arrive a thousand athletes with their staff, their relatives and fans, starting from those people
who need to train for the London Olympic Games 2012.
The hub includes two floors, has all the necessary services (laboratories for analysis, rooms
for sport therapy, thermal baths, twenty-five double rooms and canteen) and it will be opened
to sportsmen of the Province of Varese too.
