Nato il 1° agosto 1894 a San Martino di Colle Umberto, Ottavio Bottecchia detto “il muratore
del Friuli” è un mito indiscusso del ciclismo. La sua breve carriera è coronata di successi
importanti e internazionali. Indimenticabile la sua vittoria al Tour de France nel 1924; dove
non solo fu il primo italiano a vincere il tour ma indossò la maglia gialla, proteggendola
dagli avversari, dalla prima all’ultima tappa. Splendido il primo posto anche l’anno
successivo che lo confermò fuoriclasse davanti a Buysse e Aimo.

Born on August, 1st 1894 in San Martino di Colle Umberto, Ottavio Bottecchia called “the
bricklayer of Friuli” is an indisputable cycling myth. His short carrier is made of important
national and international successes. It’s impossible to forget the victory of Tour de France
in 1924, where he was not only the first Italian who won the Tour but also the only one who
wore the yellow jersey from the first to the last stage.
Also amazing the following year victory, that confirmed him as an exceptional cyclist prior to
Buysse and Aimo.
