Reverse Inertia
REVERSE INERTIA
Il momento d’inerzia di un corpo rispetto ad un dato asse
descrive quanta forza sia necessaria per cambiare il suo moto
angolare rispetto al medesimo asse. L’entità di tale sforzo è
dovuto sia alla massa del corpo preso in considerazione sia alla
conformazione del corpo stesso, ovvero a che distanza dall’asse
di rotazione è posizionata la massa in rotazione. Più la massa
dell’oggetto è distante dall’asse di rotazione, maggiore sarà il
momento d’inerzia.
Quindi maggiore sarà lo sforzo per accelerare, o decelerare, la
velocità di rotazione del corpo.
The moment of inertia of an object about a
given axis describes how difficult it is to change
its angular motion. It encompasses not just how
much mass the object has overall, but how far
each part of the mass is from the axis of rotation.
The further out the object’s mass is, the more
rotational inertia the object posesses, and the
more rotational force (torque, the force multiplied
by its distance from the axis of rotation) is
required to change its rotation rate.

Temperatures
Lo studio e l’ingegneria molecolare dei polimeri ci hanno
permesso di progettare una resina con caratteristiche molto
particolari, quelle adatte e necessarie alla costruzione di una
ruota corsa.
La resina con formula speciale utilizzata per la produzione dei
compositi in fibra di carbonio 3K e UD impiegati per i cerchi
Deda è costituita da polimeri resistenti alle altissime temperature
che si sviluppano in frenata.
Le ruote Deda sono state testate frenando bruscamente e
ripetutamente da 20km/h a 0, portando la pista freno ad una
temperatura prossima ai 200°C.

to play with polymers, embodying with specific
properties to optimise their performance.
The special formula resins used for the
combined 3K and UD carbon structure of
the Deda rims are structured from polymers
particularly resistant to high temperatures.
Deda wheels have been tested applying
the brake lever with 1200 newtons force for
30 minutes. The basalt fibre brake surfaces
reached almost 200 °C, but the clincher rims
didn’t deform or fail.
Il sistema Deda Elementi REVERSE INERTIA toglie 36,1 grammi
dalla parte più esterna della ruota, più precisamente dalla
zona del cerchio; questi sono i grammi importanti che
influenzano maggiormente il momento d’inerzia. Spostando
la posizione dei nipples, da periferica a centrale, la massa in
rotazione è concentrata molto più vicino ai mozzi, nell’area
più vicina al centro di rotazione, dove il momento d’inerzia è
prossimo allo zero.
I mozzi sono stati disegnati mediante analisi computerizzata
FEA (Finite Elements Analisys) per l’ottimizzazione della struttura
e con l’impiego di compatti e precisi cuscinetti a sfere ad alta
scorrevolezza.

The Deda REVERSE INERTIA system cuts
36,1g from the outermost part of the wheels, the
rims, which most affect the moment of inertia.
That mass has been concentrated as close as
possible to the hubs, the area closest to the
axis of rotation, where the moment of inertia
approaches zero. In simple terms, this means
faster acceleration, and less energy is needed to
bring the bicycle up to racing speeds.
The hubs, like the rest of the wheel, have been
built to be as light as possible, through the
usage of optimised smooth-running, highdurability bearings, the lightest materials and the
best forging and CNC technologies.

Una rondella dal disegno speciale, posizionata tra la testa del
raggio ed il cerchio permette al raggio un perfetto allineamento.
Questo design assicura una lunga vita ai raggi e la ruota è molto
più affidabile in quanto i raggi lavorano in modo perfetto.
Lo sforzo di tensione è perfettamente allineato con il raggio e
con il suo nipple, la tensione del raggio raggiunge il valore di
140 kg, diretti dal cerchio direttamente al mozzo.
Quando l’azione di frenata è energica le forze sul fianco del
cerchio e le temperature diventano elevate rendendo critiche le
condizioni per il cerchio.
I cerchi per copertoncino Deda sono progettati per superare
queste criticità: la pista frenante ha larghezza maggiore rispetto
ai normali cerchi. Questa soluzione permette la distribuzione
dello sforzo su di una maggiore superficie ed una migliore
dispersione del calore.
La creazione dello speciale pattino freno Big Pad di dimensioni
maggiorate consente una migliore dissipazione del calore a
fronte di migliori prestazioni di frenata. Il design del pattino Big
Pad favorisce oltretutto l’evacuazione dello sporco e dell’acqua,
un dettaglio particolarmente importante al fine di migliorare le
performance di frenata.
Le ruote Deda sono compatibili con i freni in commercio, offrono
più opzioni di assemblaggio: in prossimità del cerchio, per chi
corre in pianura, a ridosso del diametro di frenata più interno,
per gli scalatori.
THE PERFECT PULL
Deda use a specially designed washer inside the rims, positioned
just under
the spoke head, coupled with a matching rim profile to allow
every spoke to achieve perfect alignment. This solution makes
the spoke life longer and the wheel more reliable, as each spoke
works in its ideal position, with the tensile forces perfectly aligned
with the spoke axis. Each spoke bears around 140kg of load from
the rim straight to the hub.

The force exerted by the brakes on the wheels
causes a rise in temperature of the rims which
in turn leads to a higher risk of failure. Deda rims
have been developed to overcome this problem:
the brake surface is wider than those of normal
rims. This solution allows for a wider distribution
of the brake force onto a larger surface and
also produces a greater dissipation of heat. The
development of special over-size brake pads,
‘Big Pad’, aids the dispersal of excess heat and
its design also optimises the clearance of water
and dirt, which is also critical in guaranteeing a
more powerful, faster-acting and safer brake.
Deda wheels are compatible with all standard
road brakes on the market and offer flexibility
in assembly: close to the tyre, for maximum
braking power in flat country; or closer to the
centre of the rim, to reduce heat reaching
the tyre during prolonged heavy braking in
mountainous terrain.

excellent comfort and very low weight.
It has been designed with a dual compound
tread, harder in the central black band, softer on
the grey shoulders - a feature that delivers low
rolling resistance and high mileage capability
in combination with an incredible grip whilst
cornering – in wet or dry weather. This tyre is
very suitable for wet conditions.
