Prince’s Castle in Merano
Building from the 15th century of the archduke Sigmund of Austria. The castle is composed of an inner bailey, a walk along the battlements and two floors with a lot of
small rooms with furniture from the Gothic and Renaissance era. Opening hours from

Russian-Orthodox memorial Nadezda Borodina in Merano
The ensemble around the Saint Nicholas church that was consecrated in 1897 reaches
back to the legacy of Nadezda Iwanowna Borodina from Moscow. The collection presents icons, cult objects, documents and books of the Russian-Orthodox community
that lived in Merano during the turn of the century for spa reasons. Opening hours: all

Tyrol Castle
Historic castle of Tyrol, prince’s residence of the 12th and 13th century. The castle has
two palace buildings with a two-storey palace chapel, in Romanic style with Gothic

Palais Mamming Museum
Former City Museum - from April 24th onwards it is housed in the newly renovated
baroque Palais on the p.zza Duomo square. The exhibition gives an overview of the
historical development of the city. The special attraction of this individual collection
are the exotic exhibits - including an Egyptian mummy and the Sudanese weapons collection of the adventurer Slatin Pasha, a typewriter of Peter Mitterhofer and a death

Schenna Castle
Built around 1350 as residence of the sovereign of Scena. During the centuries the
castle belonged to various lineages and was renovated a few times. Large weapon
collection, a Renaissance hall with Fayence stove, salon and dining hall with gallery of
paintings; Tyrol’s history from Margarete Maultasch to Andreas Hofer and archduke

Special exhibition “Invisible Heroines” Women’s Front in World War 1

With the outbreak of war in 1914 and the general mobilization of Austria-Hungary,
in many cases the men looked directly forced to leave their current jobs in industry
and agriculture. Back home, therefore, remained the elderly, children and women,
the latter had to take on the previous duties of their fighting men in addition to their
former duties.
The vast majority of women exposed to the hardships of the workers’ fate and women
were now increasingly used as “men substitute”. Is it therefore not understandable
that it is the women of the First World War who emerged with strengthened faith in
themself and rightly hoped that through their efforts a huge step towards equal rights
and recognition would be made. In many ways, the hopes of the women, however,
should not ultimately be fulfilled…

Merano Arte
Touriseum (Trauttmansdorff Castle)
Exhibition: From & To

The project series FROM & TO was first held in 2007 at the initiative of Art Merano and
repeated in 2011. For the latest edition 2014-2015 the project has been extended to an intercultural exchange between France and Italy. The exhibition features the works of five
Italian and French artists, especially designed and implemented for the premises at Villa
Arson (Nice) and Merano Arte. Images and photographs are shown, as well as sound
art, relational art, art processing and video installations. The project is an example of a
new approach to research in the field of contemporary art and the expression of a wide
multilingualism that characterizes the current creative panorama.
Special exhibition 2015: “War and Tourism“

In 1915, Tyrol that was a recreation area and the “southern balcony of the Habsburg
Monarchy” was turned into a theater of war: barbed wire and military barracks lined
the former excursion- and mountaineering -targets from mount Ortles to the Dolomites. Hotels, guest houses and shelters emptied abruptly. In the hinterland, spa and
tourism places were quickly turned into military hospital cities. Hoteliers and hosts
whose homes were in the line of fire, lost what they had painstakingly built in decades
of work, overnight. After the First World War, the war paths of the Dolomites, became
a boost for an amazingly fast resurging tourism. The special exhibition in the Touriseum places the influence of the First World War on the development of tourism in the
center. How did the war and tourism interact? What is the impact of the First World
War on tourism in areas such like Merano or the Dolomites to today?

In the context of the pleasure workshop in Merano, “Foodie
Factory”, Merano Arte thematizes the cultural significance of

the 22nd South Tyrolean Spring Half Marathon is a sporting event
with international participation. The stretch of 21.5 kilometers
between Merano and Lagundo runs along blooming orchards. The
starting point is the Merano Corso Libertà, the goal is the p.zza
Terme square. In addition, as part of the half marathon, the 4th
edition of the Merano “run4fun” -folkrun with a length of 4.2 km
takes place. This is aimed at amateur runners, power- and Nordic
walkers and has mass-sport and non-competitive character.
Participation is open to men and women, and young runners from
the age of 12 years onwards. Food & Drinks from 10.00 a.m. onwards

With the illustrated children‘s book Eleanor and the Eagle as a guide, the
themed footpath rises to an interactive experience, with references to plot
points along the course of the path.

Seine Installation „The Seed“ stellt einen kistenartigen, mit Pflanzenmaterial
geschmückten Behälter dar. Das Werk soll zur Reflexion über die Verbindung
zwischen Kunst und handwerklicher Produktion anregen. „The Seed“ wird
vom Künstler ab Mitte März vor Ort gestaltet und am 31. März enthüllt.
Die Arbeit „Kelch“ besteht aus drei Großobjekten, die Blütenkelchen nachempfunden sind. Auf einem Metallgerippe ruht jeweils ein trichterförmiges
Geflecht aus Kokosfasern, das mit einem Stiel aus Holz versehen ist. Die Arbeit
wird vom Künstler ab Mitte März vor Ort gestaltet und Anfang April enthüllt.
L’installazione The Seed rappresenta un contenitore a forma di cassa, decorato con materiale vegetale. L’opera vuole stimolare la riflessione sul rapporto
tra arte e produzione artigianale. L’installazione viene allestita sul luogo
dall’artista da metà marzo e presentata il 31 marzo.
L’opera “Kelch” consiste in tre grandi oggetti modellati a calice. Su uno scheletro metallico poggia un intreccio a forma d’imbuto in fibra di cocco, dotato
di uno stelo di legno. L’opera viene allestita dall’artista da metà marzo in loco
e viene presentata a inizio aprile.
His installation The Seed constitutes a box-like container decorated with
plant materials. The work intends to encourage reflexion of the connection
between art and handcrafted products. The Seed will be created by the artist
on-site, and will be unveiled on 31 March.
„Kelch“ consists of three large objects which recreate the calyx flower. Each
one has a funnel shaped meshing made of coconut fiber set on a metal frame,
with a wooden stem. „Kelch“ will be created on location from mid-March and
will be unveiled at the start of April.
