During his betrothal banquet, Edmond was arrested on charges of Bonapartism, framed by an anonymous letter delivered to the gendarmerie, written by his accountant board Danglars, envious of his appointment as captain. Edmond is questioned by the Prosecutor Villefort, who delivered the letter received in which compromised the father of the prosecutor. This one destroys the letter and then traps the poor Edmond. The Count of Monte Cristo Here Dantes meets Abbe Faria, a man of science considered crazy, that speaks of a fabulous treasure buried on the island of Monte Cristo. Many years later Faria, who suffers from epilepsy, died after three violent attacks, leaving a legacy to Edmond the treasure map of Monte Cristo. Dantes then managed to escape after 14 years of imprisonment. The Count of Monte Cristo Edmon is a fugitive and he don't have a boat. During a storm he's rescued by Italian smugglers who lead him right on the island of Monte Cristo. Here, following the map of Faria, he recovers the ancient and enormous treasure. Edmond returns to Italy and gets to appoint “Count of Monte Cristo” by the authorities.
