CONDIZIONI DELLA SFERA, BANDIERA E CROCE DOPO LA
RIMOZIONE DAL CAMPANILE
(CONDITIONS OF THE SPHERE, BALL AND FLAG AFTER THE REMOVAL FROM THE BELL TOWER)
•La chiesa di Ave Gratia Plena risale al 1428. Fu ricostruita dopo il terremoto del 1688 e
consacrata nel 1783 dal Vescovo Mons. Filiberto Pascale. L’incisione riportata sulla bandiera
collocata sulla torre campanaria ne conferma l’anno.
•The church of Ave Gratia Plena dates from 1428. Was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1688
and consecrated in 1783 by Bishop Filiberto Pascale. The engraving on the flag placed on the
bell tower confirms the year.
• La torre campanaria fu oggetto di un intervento di restauro negli anni 60’ in quanto si
verificarono distacchi di mattonelle del rivestimento. L’intervento si concluse con la
sostituzione delle mattonelle e una parziale riparazione delle parti danneggiate. La crocebandiera-sfera non furono coinvolte nei lavori in quanto ritenute in buono stato di
conservazione.
• The bell tower was restored in the sixties as some tiles covering the dome were coming off.
The intervention resulted in the replacement of tiles and a partial repair of the damaged
parts. The cross, the flag and the sphere were not involved in the work as they were
considered in good condition.
• Nel gennaio 2014, l’amministrazione comunale, ha deciso di rimuovere la croce- bandierasfera per problemi di sicurezza. L’intervento di rimozione è stata effettuata dai VVF con una
acrobatica scalata al campanile. Il manufatto (rimosso dopo 231 anni) è stato apprezzato per
manifattura e qualità dei materiali. Si è deciso, pertanto, di effettuare un intervento di
pulizia e ripristino.
• In January 2014, the city administration has decided to remove cross, flag and sphere to
safety issues. The intervention was carried out by the fire brigade with an acrobatic climbing
the bell tower. The artifact (removed after 231 years) has been appreciated for
manufacturing and quality materials. It was decided, therefore, to carry out a clean-up and
restoration.

Fasi dell’intervento I
(INTERVENTIONS I)
• Croce (materiale_ferro battuto) / cross (wrought iron)
• Rimozione degli elementi aggiunti, verifica dell’integrità del manufatto, spazzolatura, trattamento di
rimozione ruggine (acido citrico al 3%), lavaggio in acqua demineralizzata, verifica della salinità residua,
finale protezione del manufatto con vernice protettiva acrilica trasparente.

• Removal of the added elements, verifying the integrity of the artefact, brushing, rust removal treatment
(citric acid to 3%), washing in demineralized water, verification of residual salinity, final protection of the
artefact with protective transparent acrylic paint.
• Bandiera (materiale_ottone) / flag (brass)
• Verifica del manufatto, ripristino delle chiodature danneggiate con rivetti in rame come da esistenti,
ribattitura parziale dei fori (per conservare la testimonianza storica), lavaggio del manufatto in acqua
demineralizzata, pulizia con prodotto contenente idonei detergenti, protezione finale con protettivo
acrilico trasparente

• Verification of the artefact, restoration of damaged riveted with copper rivets as existing, partial rewriting
of the holes (to preserve the historical record), washing of the article in demineralised water, cleaning
with product containing suitable detergents, final protection with clear acrylic protective.

• Verifica del manufatto, chiusura con inserto in resina rossa dei fori (per conservare la testimonianza storica),
lavaggio del manufatto in acqua demineralizzata, rimozione ossido (pulizia) con prodotto a base di acidi deboli
(citrico e/o acetico) e successiva neutralizzazione con sostanze basiche, protezione finale con protettivo acrilico
trasparente.

• Verification of the artefact, closure of the holes with the insert of red resin (to preserve the historical record),
washing of the article in demineralised water, oxide removal (cleaning) with product based on weak acids (citric
acid and / or acetic acid) and subsequent neutralization with basic substances, final protection with clear
acrylic protective.

Per preservare la testimonianza storica i fori sono stati protetti da resina protettiva acrilica.
To preserve the historical record the holes were protected by a protective acrylic resin.
Secondo ricostruzioni storiche i fori sulla sfera e sulla bandiera sono stati prodotti presumibilmente dal MG
42/59 calibro 7,92 in dotazione all’esercito tedesco denominata la “Maschinengewehr”. Negli anni
successivi l’intera struttura è stata oggetto di divertimento da parte degli stessi cittadini guardiesi.
According to historical reconstructions holes on the ball and the flag were presumably produced by the MG
42/59 caliber 7,92 supplied the German army called the "Maschinengewehr.“ In subsequent years, the
entire structure has been the subject of fun on the part of the citizens themselves.

usurate, ripristinandone la

BASAMENTO

componenti principali (croce, bandiera e sfera) sono stati analizzati
preventivamente mediante analisi spettrografica (PMI). I risultati sono
stati inseriti nella relazione finale unitamente al dossier fotografico.

The main components (cross, flag and sphere) were analyzed in
advance by spectrographic analysis (PMI). The results were
incorporated into the final report together with the photographic
dossier.
Le zone corrose sono state analizzate e lasciate nelle stesse condizioni
trovate. Sono stati applicati accorgimenti tecnici allo scopo di
contenere future corrosioni pregiudizievoli alla stabilità.
The corroded areas were analyzed and left in the same condition
found. Were applied technical solutions in order to contain future
corrosion detrimental to stabilità.
Le lesioni presenti sull’albero portante sono state controllate con
radiografia e valutate allo scopo di decidere eventuali interventi di
riparazione.
The lesions present on the supporting shaft were checked with X-ray
and evaluated in order to decide if any repairs.

RADIOGRAFIA SULLA DIFETTOLOGIA ASSE PORTANTE
DEFECTS VISUAL RADIOGRAPHY (BACKBONE)
L’albero portante mostra un punto di corrosione localizzato
nella parte inferiore di contatto della sfera in rame con
l’albero in ferro.
Per differenza di potenziale, nel tempo si sono verificati flussi
di elettroni diretti dal ferro al rame. La presenza di anidride
carbonica nell’umidità ha reagito formando idrossidi e
carbonati identificati come la causa dell’assottigliamento e la
successiva lacerazione dell’albero.
The shaft carrier shows a point of localized corrosion in the
lower part of contact of the copper sphere with the shaft in
iron.
For potential difference, in time occurred flows of electrons
from the direct iron to copper. The presence of carbon
dioxide in the humidity reacted forming hydroxides and
carbonates identified as the cause of thinning and
subsequent tearing of the tree.
