Early Life




He was born in San Jose, California.
He attended Heald College at the age of 13 but
dropped out shortly after.
He became a produce broker (fruits and
vegetables) for L. Scatena and Company.
He started his own business as a produce
broker and was very successful.
Banking Career

In 1904 he founded the Bank of Italy.


In 1909 he bought different banks in California
and turned them into branches of the Bank of
Italy.


He wanted a bank not only for the rich but for all
different people i.e. immigrants.
By 1918 the Bank of Italy became the first
statewide bank of the United States.
In 1930 the Bank of Italy merged with Bank of
America.

I chose Amadeo Giannini because he had a
major impact on banking in the United States
for the middle class.
He started one of the largest banks in the world
known as Bank of America and started branch
banking.
