When to use AVERE or ESSERE
1) Assume that most verbs are conjugated with AVERE
and try to familiarize yourself with this short list of
opposite verbs which use ESSERE, which deal with
“coming and going” and change of state/being:
2) Remember that the verbs which use ESSERE are all
verbs of
a) destination or coming & going (to go in, to go out, to
leave,to return…)
[not to be confused with ACTION verbs: to swim, jump, etc.
which use AVERE]
b) change of state, and/or emotions (to be born, to die, to
be sick, to be happy…)
