La Verona City
Sightseeing è lieta di
annunciare che dai
primi di giugno a
Verona siamo partiti
con la seconda linea.
Cavalcando l'onda del successo del
2008, siamo riusciti ad avviare, grazie alla volontà della amministrazione comunale ed in particolare
all'assessore Enrico Corsi, la seconda linea che ci permette di visitare il
cuore di Verona “dal nostro punto di
vista”. Il percorso inizia in piazza
Bra, e dopo una prima parte nella
sponda est dell'Adige tra palazzi
d'epoca e meravigliose chiese si
ritorna lungo il fiume per arrivare al
teatro romano, dove si incrocia la
linea A. Poi il tour si dirige verso la
“terrazza” di Castel S. Pietro, dove
oltre ad un panorama mozzafiato
della città, si potrà scendere a piedi
lungo una scalinata che costeggia il
teatro romano per poi riprendere il
bus della linea A.
Proseguendo il
tour si dirige nuovamente verso il
centro e attraversando il fiume sul

Carissimi amici, affiliati, partner e lettori
Siamo già a metà del 2009 e vi dico con estrema franchezza che non vedo l’ora
che questa’anno termini il più rapidamente possibile. So che questo mio pensiero
è condiviso da molti di voi; questa purtroppo è una stagione segnata da più
ombre che luci speriamo quindi che finisca prima possibile, ma soprattutto che
prima possibile si inizi ad intravedere un po’ più di luce ed un po’ meno ombre.
Si sente parlare di crisi e di aiuti, quasi tutti i settori ricevono chi più chi meno,
aiuti diretti e/o indiretti per superare questa crisi, purtroppo il nostro settore sembra che diversamente anche da altri settori turistici (ad esempio il ricettivo come
gli hotels o gli agriturismo) non sia in crisi e quindi non abbia bisogno di nessun
aiuto. Come più volte ho detto sfogandosi con alcuni amici e soci, personalmente
ritengo che la nostra categoria non sia sufficientemente rappresentata a livello
associativo o comunque non goda di un peso tale da poter essere ascoltata come
avviene per altri settori. Dovremo cercare di avere maggiore voce in capitolo e
questo sta solo a noi farsi ascoltare nelle dovute sedi.
La situazione di crisi che stiamo vivendo, purtroppo non è solo del nostro paese,
ma è presente anche ne resto del mondo, anche se parlando con il nostro
Presidente della word-wide Peter Newman, mi spiegava che nel Regno Unito, pur
essendo presente un forte crisi, la visita delle città d’arte non ha avuto grosse flessioni sia perché molti cittadini Britannici per contenere la spesa, hanno deciso di
rimanere nel Regno Unito per le vacanze, sia perché molte struttura ricettive
hanno contrastato la crisi con forti sconti e promozioni che di fatto hanno compensato il minor afflusso di stranieri anche se tutto sommato per effetto del cambio favorevole Euro/Sterlina, la riduzione dell’incoming nel Regno Unito è stata
minore che da noi. Stessa situazione si è verificata vale per gli Stati Uniti dove
Peter gestisce direttamente Washington e Las Vegas.
Lo scorso 1 e 2 giugno vi è stata l’annuale conferenza del gruppo CS a Porto; in
quell’occasione il nostro presidente Peter Newman mi ha fatto una splendida
quanto inaspettata sorpresa conferendomi il premio “Personality of the year
2009” per il lavoro che abbiamo svolto in Italia per promuovere il nostro “brand”
con professionalità e qualità e per il lancio del servizio a Sofia in Bulgaria. Devo
sinceramente ammettere che non mi aspettavo questa riconoscenza che ritengo
sia merito di tutto il gruppo Italiano, un sincero grazie a Peter.
Non sto a dilungarmi ancora, auguro a tutti un buon lavoro con la speranza che
questa seconda parte dell’anno che ci aspetta sia migliore della prima.

Dear friends, affiliates, partners and readers,
We are in the middle of 2009 and, to speak frankly, I am already looking forward
to the end of this year. I know that many of you are sharing my feelings and worries about the current year, which has been marked by the negative impact of the
financial crisis. I hope we will be able to see some positive changes in a short
time.
Almost every sector, included the tourist sector, such as hotels and agritourism
farms, receive a certain amount of financial aid, direct and/or indirect, to cope
with the economic crisis but, unfortunately, we do not seem to need any form of
support and assistance. I strongly believe – and I have often discussed the issue
with my friends and partners - that our sector should be more represented and
safeguarded and that we, too, ought to have a voice.
The financial crisis has been affecting not only Italy, but many other countries of
the world. In our recent meeting, Peter Newman, President of City Sightseeing
worldwide, told me that in the U.K , art cities have not registered great losses
because British people have chosen not to go abroad on holiday, moreover, special discounts and promotions have compensated the decreased number of foreign tourists. In addition, thanks to the favourable exchange rate Euro/Pound,
there has been a lower income reduction. The same things can be said about the
U.S.A, where Peter Newman is operating in Washington and Las Vegas.
On the 1st and 2nd June I was in Porto for the annual conference where I have
been awarded with the “Personality of the year 2009” prize by our President
Peter Newman. This has been an unexpected and wonderful surprise for me and I
have to thank not only Peter but also all the Italian staff, who have been working
hard to promote our brand, to offer a high quality service and to launch our service in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Well, I think it’s all for now. I hope everything will get better and better in the following months and I wish everybody a very good job.

Erbe, cuore della città scaligera, con

età rinascimentale. Di seguito si
incrocia nuovamente l'altra linea a
Porta dei Leoni per poi dirigersi al
capolinea.
Questo giro ha la durata di poco
meno di un ora ed ha il merito di portarvi nella parte più centrale e più
vissuta della città, tra strade strette
e sontuosi palazzi. Per questo viene
utilizzato un bus monopiano scoperto modello Mago che ci permette di
raggiungere questi luoghi.
In June Verona City Sightseeing has
increased its service with a second
line. Following our success in 2008,
the city council administration, and
councillor Enrico Corsi in particular,
has enabled us to double our service
in the city.This second line is our perfect way to visit the heart of the city.
The bus follows this itinerary: it
starts from Bra Square, passes through the east bank of the river Adige
with its historic buildings and wonderful churches and goes back,
along the river, to the Roman
Theatre, where it crosses line A.
Then it reaches Castel S. Pietro terrace, where our passengers can
enjoy a beautiful view of the city
spreading out, and then walk down
a stairway near the Roman Theatre
to take line A bus. The tour continues and, crossing over the Ponte
Garibaldi, the bus reaches the
Cathedral, the Vescovato and
Piazza delle Erbe, heart of the city,
with its medieval buildings, typical
towers and façades, examples of
Renaissance architecture. Then,
again, the bus crosses the other line
at Porta dei Leoni and goes back to
the terminal.

L’audio guida GUIDART è un innovativo lettore con semplici ed intuitive funzionalità per l’utilizzo di audio guida multilingua; l’obbiettivo di questa nuova guida elettronica., che a tutti gli effetti è un libro elettronico, è quello di sostituire le guide a
noleggio che si prendono nelle città d’arte ed in parte le guide cartacee. GUIDART è
praticamente un lettore MP3 su cui viene caricato il commentario multilingua
diventando così un audio guida portatile per tour guidati della città o con un itinerario dei luoghi di maggior interesse da visitare oppure con blocchi che individuano le
varie locations di interesse turistico, artistico, storico, culturale, ecc., come una
guida cartacea. GUIDART è utilizzabile in contemporanea da due persone, una
mappa cartacea ed un libretto contenente le istruzioni sull’uso del lettore ed informazioni di carattere generale sulla città, sono allegate alla confezione assieme
anche ad una coppia di auricolari doppi stereo ed ad un laccetto per la tracolla
dell’apparecchio. Con semplici comandi si può scegliere la lingua, far avanzare il
commentario o selezionale direttamente la parte che si desidera ascoltare; in qualsiasi momento si può interrompere l’ascolto e/o ripetere l’ascolto del brano. Il
costo è praticamente in linea con quello del noleggio dell’audio guide con la differenza che in questo caso l’apparecchio non viene reso al noleggiatore, ma rimane il
lettore MP3 a disposizione del cliente; l’apparecchio completo verrà commercializzato al pubblico al costo di €.24,00. Lo stesso prodotto potrà essere convertito in
lettore audio MP3 scaricando un opportuno software attraverso il portale di
GUIDART , con funzionalità avanzate come registratore digitale, radio, chiave USB
per immagazzinamento dati fino a 1 giga-bite e chiaramente rimane la funzione di
lettore audio musicale MP3. Oppure il prodotto potrà essere usato nuovamente
come audio guida, scaricando sempre sul portale di GUIDART; il contenuto del commentario di una qualsiasi nuova destinazione proposta tra i vari tour grazie ad una
libreria informatica a cui si potrà facilmente accedere ad un costo modesto.
Riteniamo che questo prodotto sia complementare ai nostri tour City Sightseeing,
in quanto la loro combinazione fornirà al turista tutto quanto necessario per avere
una completa informazione sul luogo che sta visitando. Il turista potrà ascoltare il
commentario sul nostro bus e , una volta sceso ad una fermata, potrà utilizzare

GUIDART is the ultimate MP3 player, a sort of electronic guide which is going to
replace the traditional guidebooks as well as the portable audio guides that can be
hired in our art cities. By using this innovative portable audio system, tourists will
be able to listen to a pre-recorded multi lingual commentary in guided tours of places of historical, cultural and artistic interest.This innovative tool is going to complement our City Sightseeing tours and provide tourists with useful and interesting
information about the places they are visiting, also after they have got off the bus.
We hope we will be able to launch it out next July 2009.
Each package contains the MP3 player, an instruction booklet containing also some
useful information about the city, stereo earphones and neck strap. It can be used
by two people simultaneously and is practical and easy to use: languages and desired tracks can be selected by simple commands and it is possible to stop and/or to
listen again to the recording.
Its price will be €.24,00, nearly as much as a traditional portable audio guide, but
in this case our customers will keep the MP3 which can be used as a standard MP3
player, radio, digital recorder and also as USB data storage, with a memory capacity of 1 GB, by downloading the software directly from GUIDART website. At our
GUIDART website it will be also possible to find and download the new commentaries for every destination of our tours at a low cost.

quest’anno possiamo garantire, sta continuando a crescere in maniera importante.
Il livello di servizio che abbiamo raggiunto è molto buono sia intermini di offerta che
di qualità del servizio medesimo. Anche lo “staff” di Roma ha migliorato notevolmente la sua professionalità, di pari passo è cresciuto il grado di soddisfazione del

Da questa data, le nuove tariffe del
biglietto integrato City Sightseeing
passano a 22 euro per gli adulti e 11
euro per i ridotti , con validità del
biglietto 24 ore per tutta la rete di
servizi City Sightseeing e Ataf .
Con questo accordo diamo la possibilità al cliente, conservando il
biglietto del tour City Sightseeing
Firenze, di muoversi su tutto il territorio cittadino e periferico della
città per 24 ore solo con una piccolo
costo aggiuntivo.

La “City Sightseeing
Academy”: dal mondo
aziendale ai banchi di
scuola
“City Sightseeing
Academy”: crossing the
boundaries between
school and work
Si è concluso, a giugno, il primo
corso di formazione “City
Sightseeing Academy”.
Il progetto, nato dalla sinergia della
City Sightseeing Sorrento con
l’Istituto Turistico San Paolo di
Sorrento, nella persona del
Dirigente Scolastico, prof. Mario
Iacomino, ha registrato ampio consenso fra gli studenti.
L’obiettivo principale è stato quello
di creare una sinergia e una complementarietà tra i due mondi, quello
scolastico e quello del lavoro, adeguando l’offerta formativa con tecniche e strumenti “attuali” che
garantissero all’alunno la capacità
di interfacciarsi con i diversi interlocutori.
Il corso “Il City Sightseeing a scuola: l’azienda incontra il mondo della
formazione” ha avuto il pregio di
incuriosire, far conoscere e, soprattutto, condividere temi “turistici” e
tecniche di comunicazione personale con i ragazzi, in un percorso strutturato in 30 ore di formazione extracurriculari.
Diversi gli argomenti trattati: dal
network internazionale “City
Sightseeing” alla organizzazione
aziendale locale, dai temi della
comunicazione personale all’analisi
del comparto turistico, in una chiave
di lettura attuale che ha posto
l’accento sulla evoluzione di internet attraverso la rivoluzione del web
2.0, fino ad arrivare alla sua massima declinazione nel Travel 2.0.
Le sessioni sono state caratterizzate
da una forte interazione: esercitazioni in aula con lo studio di differenti case history; presentazione di
lavori sia individuali che di gruppo
hanno visto il coinvolgimento
appassionato degli studenti.
L’epilogo del progetto si è avuto con
una lezione a bordo del City
Sightseeing Sorrento lungo
l’itinerario “Alla scoperta dei due
Golfi”, conclusasi con il rilascio
dell’attestato di partecipazione al
tirocinio.

the least polluting gas available at the moment. It is an 8-metre open-top one-deck

Riteniamo di far piacere a molti affiliati nel comunicare che il TAR del Veneto lo scorso mese di aprile si è pronunciato su un ricorso presentato dalla società Italy Open
Tour di Roma contro il Comune di Verona e contro la Ns. consociata/affiliata Verona
City Sightseeing per l’assegnazione del servizio alla nostra società fatta
dall’amministrazione comunale di Verona nel maggio 2008 a seguito di una gara
per la selezione dell’azienda che avrebbe dovuto gestire il servizio nella città. Il
Comune di Verona aveva deciso di intraprendere l’assegnazione del servizio attraverso gara, in quanto erano state presentate ben 4 domande per lo stesso servizio
ed il Comune per non aggravare la situazione del traffico nel centro storico, ma nel
contempo garantire un servizio che rappresenta un valore aggiunto per la città,
voleva assegnare il servizio ad un solo operatore nonostante che, come è noto, a
termini di legge questi servizi siano di fatto liberalizzati. Per la scelta dell’azienda a
cui affidare il servizio, il Comune decise di procedere tramite una gara da evidenza

The main objective of the course
was to create a link between the two
worlds of school and work and provide students with useful knowledge and modern techniques to enter
the tourism business.
The highly motivated students of
the school have attended this extra
curriculum 30-hour training course
with enthusiasm and have been
able to know more about tourism
and communication strategies.

a rallegrare la città, ed
offrire un tragitto affascinante che si
snoda tra la “Città Bassa” e “Città
Alta”. In collaborazione con Atb
Servizi, Zani Viaggi ed il brand internazionale City Sightseeing continuano a promuovere la città a livello
turistico e valorizzarne il patrimonio
artistico e culturale.
Il percorso proposto da City
Sightseeing, con pullman scoperti
cabriolet “Tintoretto” da 47 posti a
sedere, dotati di pedana mobile per
l’accesso facilitato ad utenti diversamente abili, si sviluppa attraverso
le due parti della città toccando i
principali punti d’interesse per il turista. Si parte dalla stazione ferroviaria in direzione “Colle Aperto” in
Città Alta, dove si arriva attraverso
pubblica; alla gara oltre alla Verona City Sightseeing parteciparono altre 3 aziende
tra cui oltre alla Italy Open Tour anche l’azienda pubblica di Verona di proprietà del
Comune medesimo e l’azienda pubblica di Roma TRAM BUS Open. A seguito del progetto formulato la Verona City Sightseeing si aggiudicò la gara ed iniziò il servizio;
la Italy Open Tour di Roma fu l’unica azienda a ricorrere contro il provvedimento del
Comune di Verona con cui assegnava il servizio alla nostra società sostenendo che
questo tipo di servizi erano di fatto liberalizzati e quindi il Comune di Verona doveva
assegnare il servizio anche agli altri richiedenti, pertanto contestava di fatto la gara
per l’assegnazione del servizio, infine contesta nel merito anche il punteggio della
gara. Bene, dopo che Italy Open Tour ha rinunciato il giorno stesso della discussione alla sospensiva del provvedimento che nel frattempo aveva chiesto, il TAR del
Veneto si è pronunciato nel merito lo scorso aprile dando torto alla ricorrente su
tutti i punti contestati e di contro dando ragione in pieno alle argomentazioni sostenute da noi e dall’amministrazione comunale, sancendo con la sentenza nel contempo principi molto importanti per le Ns. aziende che operano in questo settore.
Per coloro che sono interessati ad avere maggiori informazioni sulla sentenza
siamo a disposizione per fornire tutto quanto possa essere utile e di interesse.
We are very glad to inform our affiliates about a recent TAR sentence. Last April, a
TAR sentence in Veneto rejected the appeal of Italy Open Tour Rome against the
city council of Verona and our affiliate Verona City Sightseeing defending our thesis
completely. Last May 2008, the city council of Verona had granted Verona City
Sightseeing the service contract in the city, after an open competitive tender. The
city council asked for one single operator in the city – despite the fact that these services are legally free - not to aggravate the traffic situation in the historic centre
and, at the same time, to provide the city with an efficient transport service which
might also add to the prestige of the city. Three more companies, among which the
public transport company of Rome TRAM BUS and the public transport company of
Verona, owned by the city council of Verona, had tendered for the service contract
but only Italy Open Tour of Rome had appealed to TAR court because they claimed
that also the other companies should be granted the service contract and contested
also the tender evaluation criteria. We believe that this TAR sentence was very
important because it sanctioned important principles for our kind of business.

è stato l’anno di partenza con l’inaugurazione avvenuta a stagione inoltrata e il

informare il visitatore sui luoghi di

lungo il tragitto, provvede un commentario da ascoltare attraverso

bordo da hostess o steward qualificati; i commenti, approfonditi e ricchi di aneddoti e curiosità sulla città
sono in 4 lingue (italiano, inglese,
tedesco e spagnolo) ed hanno come
oggetto aspetti sia culturali che artistici, nonché storici ed enogastronomici.

aver costeggiato la litoranea si rientra in città .
Le diverse fermate permettono di raggiungere facilmente il Teatro Vittorio
Emanuele, la graziosa Villa Mazzini all’interno della quale si trova l’Acquario
Comunale dotato di 22 vasche espositive che ospitano oltre 60 diverse specie ittiche del Mar Mediterraneo ed infine il Museo Regionale che vanta opere del
Caravaggio, di Antonello Da Messina, di Girolamo Alibrandi e di altri celebri pittori e
scultori che furono le punte emergenti della cultura artistica messinese.
Da quest’anno , con la seconda linea, è possibile raggiungere anche il bellissimo
Sacrario di Cristo Re, costruito su una piccola altura sui resti del castello di
Matagrifone di cui resiste, inglobata, una delle torri. Dallo splendido belvedere antistante si gode un ineguagliabile panorama dello Stretto e della città ed è per questo
che risulta meta richiestissima dai turisti.
Messina is a beautiful and friendly city, called “The gate of Sicily”. City Sightseeing
has been operating here since 2007 and, after one year of transition, in 2009 our
business is prospering; this year we have also added a second line.
The terminal of the city tour is in Piazza Duomo, the most important square in
Messina, with its Cathedral. Here, most of tourists and cruisers gather every day at
12.00 o’clock a.m, to watch the show of the incredible Bell Tower Clock, the most
complex astronomical and mechanical clock in the world.
The bus passes through Via Garibaldi and reaches the seafront of the Strait and the
popular “Passeggiata a Mare”, a place that evokes the legend of Scilla and Cariddi,
described by Homer in the Odyssey, then it goes back to the city centre.
In this tour there are so many stops that tourists can see the main places of interests, such as Vittorio Emanuele Theatre, Villa Mazzini, which houses the Municipal
Aquarium of Messina with its 60 different ichthyic species of the Mediterranean,
and the Regional Museum, which houses paintings by Caravaggio, Antonello Da
Messina, Girolamo Alibrandi and other renowned Sicilian painters and sculptors.
This year, by taking the second line, it is also possible to reach the beautiful
Sanctuary of Christ King, built on a hill where Matagrifone Castle once stood and
where one of its original towers still remains. The place offers a splendid view of the
Strait and the city and, for this reason, it always attracts many tourists.

open- top bus, is going back to work
and offering its customers an exciting tour of both the Città Bassa and
the Città Alta. Our international
brand “City Sightseeing”, in collaboration with Atb Servizi and Zani
Viaggi, is keeping on promoting the
cultural and artistic heritage of the
city.
Our City Sightseeing tour is the perfect way to see the most interesting
places of the two parts of the city:
the old part, called the Città Alta and
the modern one, called the Città
Nuova. Our open-top doubledecker bus “Tintoretto” has 47 seats
and a facilitated access for the disabled.
The bus starts from the railway station and, after stops at Porta Nuova,
Teatro Doninzetti, Funicolare,
Accademia Carrara, Porta S.
Giacomo, reaches “Colle Aperto”,
in the Città Alta. Then, it drives back
to terminal and reaches the borough S. Alessandro and other interesting places, such as the Rotonda
dei Mille, Piazza Pontida and Via XX
Settembre, a popular shopping
area. This comprehensive tour with
13 strategic stops, is designed to let
tourists explore and enjoy the city,
thanks to the hop- on hop - off formula, our winning strategy all over

The first bus ride is at 10.00 0’clock
a.m., with a frequency of 1 hour at
each following stop, for the whole
day. The tour can start from any
stop and the ticket has a validity of
24 hours from the moment of obliteration. The ticket, which can be purchased on the bus, costs 13.00
euros for adults and 6.00 euros for
children (from 5 to 15 years) and
reduced, and it is free for children
up to 4 years old. The City
Sightseeing ticket will enable passengers to use also the Atb city line,
airport and cable railway included,
for all the period of its validity.
A multi- lingual commentary
system in 4 languages (Italian,
English, German and Spanish) is
available on our bus and our highly
qualified hostesses and stewards
will give each passenger disposable
headsets. This commentary has
been carefully prepared to provide
passengers with all the relevant and
interesting information about the
history, culture, artistic heritage
and even gastronomy of the city of
Bergamo.

New itinerary for City Sightseeing Livorno
Il 18 aprile a Livorno si è aperta ufficialmente la stagione 2009 di City Sightseeing.
Il servizio sarà attivo sino al giorno 17 ottobre 2009, attraverso un’offerta di 5 corse
giornaliere dalle ore 10.00 alle ore 14.00; nel periodo 16 giugno-19 settembre,
sarà istituita un’ulteriore corsa alle ore 15.00.
Importante novità di quest’anno è l’adozione di un nuovo percorso turistico studiato allo scopo di offrire alla propria clientela l’opportunità di scoprire il più possibile le
bellezze e le attrattive di Livorno. Il tour inizia attraversando l’antico Quartiere
Venezia (la parte storica e più suggestiva della città), così battezzato per il forte
richiamo estetico con la celebre città lagunare; il fruitore potrà così godere della
visione dei caratteristici canali navigabili - che in un tempo ormai lontano permettevano il trasporto delle merci sino alle cantine che vi si affacciano al di sotto della
strada – della Fortezza Nuova (imponente struttura difensiva risalente al 1591),
della nobile via Borra (incastonata tra i suoi aristocratici palazzi settecenteschi)
dove si possono visitare i negozi più prestigiosi degli antiquari livornesi. Chi volesse
approfondire la conoscenza di questo prezioso scrigno cittadino, può farlo scendendo alla fermata No 2 nella piazza dei Domenicani, dinnanzi alla Chiesa di Santa
Caterina. Il tour prosegue poi verso la fascia litoranea, passando davanti alla
Fortezza Vecchia (elegante fortilizio costruito a partire dal 1521 su progetto di
Antonio Da Sangallo), il monumento dei Quattro Mori (dedicato a Ferdinando I dè
Medici Granduca di Toscana e simbolo di Livorno), dove è possibile ammirare e
gustare appieno tutta la bellezza paesaggistica della città, attraverso un affascinante lungomare arricchito dalla presenza della Terrazza Mascagni (con la sua
inconfondibile pavimentazione a scacchiera che si estende per oltre 8.700 metri
quadrati). In questa parte del percorso è possibile scendere utilizzando la fermata
No 3, che consentirà- tra l’altro - di arrivare in pochi minuti al Museo Civico Giovanni
Fattori, che ha sede nella prestigiosa Villa Mimbelli, struttura che vanta una importante collezione pittorica della scuola macchiaiola e post-macchiaiola; la visita al
Museo, per i fruitori del nostro servizio, è gratuita….un’occasione da non perdere!
Proseguendo il nostro percorso è possibile ammirare la celeberrima Accademia
Navale, sino poi ad arrivare alla Rotonda di Ardenza dove è situata la fermata No 4.
La fermata successiva, la No 5, è situata davanti all’ingresso del Museo di Storia
Naturale del Mediterraneo, che ha sede nella settecentesca Villa Henderson, al cui
interno è possibile visitare diverse sale tematiche, tra le quali la sala del Mare, la
sala dell’Uomo ed un interessantissimo orto botanico. Anche per questo sito museale l’ingresso è gratuito per i Clienti City Sightseeing. Il tour prosegue poi addentrandosi gradualmente verso il centro cittadino giungendo così alla fermata No 6
situata nella piazza Cavour; da qui è possibile in pochi passi raggiungere lo storico
Mercato Centrale, monumentale edificio ottocentesco ove sarà possibile trovare i
prodotti tipici della tradizione livornese e, tra le bancarelle dell’attiguo mercatino,
tanto tanto folklore. L’itinerario continua per arrivare nella piazza Grande, con la
fermata No 7, che consentirà di raggiungere la Sinagoga e la Chiesa di Santa Giulia,
Patrona di Livorno nonchè la prospiciente via Grande, meta ideale per dedicarsi ad
una pausa all’insegna dello shopping. Si giunge poi, percorrendo tutto il contorno
della piazza della Repubblica (con i suoi 19.000 mq. imponente volta sul Fosso
Reale) all’ultima fermata – prima del rientro al capolinea – situata sul viale degli
Avvalorati, dalla quale si può facilmente accedere all’imbarcadero per il giro in battello dei Fossi Medicei (servizio aggiuntivo) per guardare Livorno da un’altra prospettiva. Vi attendiamo allora per potervi mostrare gli aspetti più belli sotto il profilo
culturale, storico e naturale di una città forse poco conosciuta ma che ha tanto da

On the 18th April 2009, City Sightseeing season was officially open.
The service, which will last until 17th October 2009, consists of 5 daily bus rides
from 10.00 a.m. to 14.00 p.m.; from 16th June 2009 to 19th September 2009 one
more ride is available at 15.00 p.m..
For this year City Sightseeing has designed a new tourist itinerary which allows its
passengers to discover all the places of interest of this beautiful Tuscan city.
The tour starts from the old Quartiere Venezia, which is the most picturesque and
historical part of the city. The place was called Venezia because of its resemblance
to the well-known city of Venezia. In fact, in this area tourists can enjoy the sight
of navigable channels which were used in the past for transporting goods to the old
warehouses lining along the banks. Here, there is the Fortezza Nuova, a majestic
fortress which dates back to the late 16th century, and Via Borra, with its 18th century aristocratic buildings, where one can visit many prestigious antique shops.
Tourists who want to know more about this beautiful corner of the city, can get off
the bus at stop N.2, in Piazza dei Domenicani, in front of Santa Caterina Church.
The tour continues by passing along the coastal road and along Fortezza Vecchia,
an elegant fortress whose construction started in 1521 and was designed by
Antonio Da Sangallo and the monument to Quattro Mori (Monument of the four
Turks) which was dedicated to Ferdinando I dè Medici, Granduca di Toscana and
has become the symbol of Livorno. This is one of the most charming areas of the
city, with panoramic views, enriched by the beautiful sight of the coastal scenery
and by Terrazza Mascagni, with its monochrome marble pavement, stretching over
8,700 square metres. In this first part of the tour, one can get off at stop N.3 and
reach in just a few minutes the Giovanni Fattori Civic Museum. The Museum,
hosted in the prestigious Villa Mimbelli, houses masterpieces by Giovanni Fattori
and other Macchiaioli and post-Macchiaioli painters. The entrance is free for our
passengers: an occasion that nobody will want to miss! Along this route it will be
possible to see the renowned Livorno Naval Academy and the historic Dome of
Ardenza, at stop N.4. The following bus stop, N.5, is in front of the entrance to
Livorno’s Natural History of the Mediterranean Museum, hosted in the handsome
18th century Villa Henderson. The museum offers an interesting insight into the
area’s geology, wildlife and plant life: the Sea Room, the Man Room and a very interesting botanical garden. This entrance, too, is free for our customers.
The tour then reaches the city centre at bus stop N.6, situated in Cavour Square;
from here it is possible to walk to the historic Central Market in a few minutes. The
market is housed in a large 19th century building and here one can find the traditional and typical products of Livorno and, among the stalls of the nearby small market, enjoy the folklore of the city.
The bus then reaches Grande Square at stop N.7; from here it is possible to reach
the Synagogue and the Church of Santa Giulia, the patron saint of Livorno and Via
Grande, an ideal street for shopping lovers. By passing along all the perimeter of
Piazza della Repubblica ( built above a section of Fosso Reale, a canal stretching
19,000 square metres) the bus arrives its last stop, at Viale degli Avvalorati, before reaching the terminal. From here one can reach the pier and enjoy the sight of
the city from a different perspective on a boat trip of the Fossi Medicei (this is an
additional service).

2009 BIT edition suffered from the
economic crisis which has been
affecting the whole world for
months. The number of exhibiting
companies, big or small, was considerably lower and there were fewer
buyers and visitors than in the past
editions. Our stand, too, had fewer
visitors, although our organizational and economical commitment
was great. City Sightseeing Italy
had a 1,60 square metres stand, the
best in the last few years, according
to many of our affiliates.
Almost all of our affiliates were present and this was a great success for
our company. On Thursday, as
usual, we had dinner together and
we want to thank City Sightseeing
Milan for its help and collaboration.
