The Italian Higher Education System
University system (after the Reform):
• 3 years BS (laurea 1° livello)
• +2 years MS (laurea magistrale - 2° livello)
• +3 years PhD (dottorato)
Grades
Exams are marked out of thirty and the mark is written in the
special register, in either electronic or paper form. A mark equal
to or above 18/30 is a pass.
In case of maximum marks (30/30) the committee can assign
30/30 with honours (lode).
<18 means that the exam is failed therefore it won’t be included
in the Academic Transcript of Records.
Credits are assigned only if the student passes an exam or other
type of test.
In cases foreseen by course regulations (laboratories,
internships), the assessment may be expressed by a Pass
Certificate (IDONEITA’ or SUP). In this cases, students cannot
obtain a grade in /30.
