In the south-east part of Kephallonia we meet the municipality of the Elios-Pronni. It is a beautiful area with special culture and history. The
golden sandy beaches and the green, unique ecosystem of Mount Aenos co-exist harmonically with the remnants of a significant ancient
civilization. Drakena’s Cave in Poros, the ancient Tombs in Mavrata, the Royal Tomb with the gold findings in Tzanata reveal the excistence of
a powerful prehistoric cultural center. Another two remarkable sites are the ruins of Posidon’s temple in Agios Georgios near Skala and the
remnants of a Roman Mansion in Skala. Mary’s Church in Atros is one of the oldest Byzantine monasteries and its impressive tower has built
since the 15th century. The canyon of poros and Katelios is also a natural paradise for many species of birds and plants. The beaches of Skala,
Poros and Katelios, which have been awarded a Blue Flag, are the perfect place for water sports and diving. The ecosystem and the wildlife
sanctuaries give the chance to the nature lovers to discover rare kinds of trees and animals like the kefallonian fir tree named «Abies
Kefallonica» and the unique breed of horses named «Eguus Cabalus». The municipality of Elios - Pronni is an unforgettable destination for all
the visitors because it offers many different kinds of holidays.
The municipality of Lyvathos is a combination of peacefulness and nobleness. The visitors can admire the view of the mountains and the dark blue colour of
the sea at the same time. That area is situated just under the impressive Mount Aenos. the most beautiful beaches: Lourdas beach: a very long beach which is
surrounded by olive trees, tropical plants and small gardens. Trapezaki beach: on the top of a small mountain there is a little church. A narrow road goes
down to a lovely sandy beach. Avythos beach: It is believed to be the most beautiful beach of the south Lyvathos. The characteristic of Avythos is the white
sand and the clear blue water. It is a good place for surfing. Lithero: a peaceful beach just by the beach of Lourdas. An ideal place for those who love quiet
holidays. Ai Helis: it is a small organised beach in Svoronata village which sand is grey. Saint Thomas: a combination of sand and rocks. It is really interesting.
Paliolynos: a small beach near Koriana - Klysmata village. Ammes: an organised long and sandy beach in Svoronata village. Klimatsias: a small beach in Spartia
village. Agia Pelagia: a scenic bay between Ai Helis and Ammes beach. It is a port for small boats. DO NOT FORGET TO SEE Saint George’s Castle: an impressive
castle on the top of a hill. The view from there is really fantastic and unforgettable. The walls of the castle were built between 1504 and 1534 and the visitors
can see inside many ruins of the old buildings. Mazarakata: the excavations revealed arched tombs from the After Mycenean Period. MUSEUMS: The Byzantine
Museum in Saint Antreas church. The exhibits date from the 13th to 19th century.

MUNICIPALITY OF SAMI
∆here were four ancient Kefallonian cities during the Classical and Hellenistic period (500 b.C. - 188 b.C.); Sami was one of them. Many
excavations have taken place there and revealed important ruins from that period. But the most interesting point is the way they used to build
their fortresses. Behind Sami, on the top of the hill, an impressive castle is located. The magical beach of Antisamos, is really an unforgettable
site for the visitors, full of trees that end up down to the beach. It has been awarded a Blue Flag. It is internationally known because of the film
«Captain Corelli’s Mandolin». An amazing geological phenomenon can be seen in Karavomylos Lake. The water that comes from Katavothres
near Argostoli, after traveling for about 14 days, appears in Karavomylos Lake. Melissani is another exceptional Lake - Cave. A part of the roof
has collapsed after an earthquake hundred of years ago. The depth of the lake is thirty six meters and the length of the cave is about a hundred
meters. The visit is possible by boat. Drogarati Cave was discovered 300 years ago when an earthquake caused a kind of entrance to the cave.
The depth is 60 meters and the temperature inside the cave is 18 degrees. The stalactites and stalagmites are really remarkable.

MUNICIPALITY OF LYVATHOS
The second largest city of the island; is not called the city of art and literature by accident. The oldest Philarmonic Band of Greece is situated
in Lixouri, while in the Iakovatios Library anyone can find manuscripts from the 14th century and many exceptional books. Besides the
eptanisian architecture of the buildings what makes the city special is the dried-up stream that cuts it in two and the ferries that makes the
access to the capital much easier since the trip lasts only 20 minutes. The Municipaliti of Palikis includes many traditional villages, monuments
and twenty two beaches. The most famous and touristic areas are: Kounopetra: A geophysical phenomennon in which the homonymous rock that
is located on the shore, presents a constant and continuous movement without having proven where this movement comes from. The Beach of
Xi: With the red sand which contains argil and is recommended for various illnesses since its water has therapeutic effects. Xi has been awarded
a Blue Flag. The Ponastery of Kipouria: which was built on a steep rock 90 meters above the sea level; with its exceptional built church and its
rare heirlooms, while the enchanting sunset is considered one of the most beautiful of the Mediterranean. The Beach of Platia Ammos: This beach
is located next to the Monastery of Kipouria and sees the endless blue of the Ionian Sea. While the inaccessible it is incredibly enchanting; maybe
one of the most beautiful beaches worldwide. The Bay of Petanoi Beach: which is referred in Homer’s Odyssey, it means the open horizon and
is a beautiful, relaxing but also adversatve landscape. Its bluish and calm water can very easily become wild and dark blue. It is so clear like
crystal and even though the depth is so big, you think that you can touch the bottom. It has been awarded a Blue Flag. The scenic Bay of Porto
Athera: It is a paradise for the fishermen, amateurs or not, since it is considered a passage. Furthermore the small island in the middle is a
refuge for many rare kinds of birds. Visiting Lixouri you will discover so much that you will remember it for ever.
