Born in Milan on 11/05/1952. Degree in Medicine in 1978 with honors from the
University of Milan with a thesis entitled: "Malignant tumors of the liver: our
series." From 1977 he attended the Division of Surgical Oncology of the
Institute for the Study and Treatment of Cancer in Milan. Specialization in 1982
with honors in Oncology at the University of Genoa, with a thesis on
"Classification and Treatment of kidney cancer (particularly in relation to
hormone receptors). Since 1984, deals with the status of research associate, of
urological cancers and in particular those of the testis, at the Division of
Urologic Oncology Institute for the Study and Treatment of Cancer in Milan. In
1988, with honors specialization in General Surgery at the University of Milan,
with the thesis: "The treatment of cancer of the penis." Specializes in 1999 with
honors in Urology at the University of Milan, with a thesis on "The conservative
treatment of penile cancers. From 1990 to December 2006 Medical Director of
the First Level Division of Urology at the National Institute for the Study and
Treatment of Cancer in Milan. Since January 2007 Chair of Urologic Unit ,
IRCCS National Institute for the Study and Treatment of Cancer in Milan. It is
author or coauthor of over 100 scientific publications in the field of urooncology. He has collaborated so far in national and international cooperative
studies on testicular cancer . Since September 2005 he works as an
international consultant with the Institut National du Cancer, Paris (INCA) for
testicular cancer. He has performed as the first operator of more than 3000
surgical operations in highly specialized field uro-oncology.

Main activities and Medical treatment of Germ-Cell tumors (including novel drugs and
responsibilities experimental therapies) and other genitourinary malignancies. Integration with
surgery and high-dose therapies-transplantation in multimodal treatments for
genitourinary neoplasms.
Chairman and co-chairman for the following clinical trials and initiatives:
- Prognostic factors for first salvage treatment of relapsed/refractory germ
cell cancer: an International database.
- INT70/09: Phase 2 study with the multi-targeted tyrosine-kinase inhibitor
Pazopanib (GW786034) for patients with relapsed or refractory urothelial
cancer (NCT01031875).
- INT52/10: Phase II study of neoadjuvant cisplatin and gemcitabine plus
sorafenib for transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder.
- INT38/10: Tandem high-dose chemotherapy (HDCT) with peripheral-blood
stem-cell rescue for patients with metastatic germ-cell tumors failing firstline treatment (NCT01172912).
- Development of Institutional salvage strategies for patients with
relapsed/refractory germ-cell cancer (including collaboration with Medical
Oncology 3 - BMT Unit).
- Development of Institutional strategies for the treatment of locally
advanced-metastatic urothelial cancers (including new targeted therapies).
