ECUMENICAL CELEBRATION 2011 CELEBRAZIONE ECUMENICA
Next Sunday,January 23, h 7:30 pm. Ecumenical
Celebration of Prayer for the Unity of Christians with St.
Mark’s Parish (anglican).
It will take place, for the eighth time, in their church at
19:30; a bilingual (English & Italian) booklet prepared
specifically for this occasion will be made available for full
participation; a moment of "fraternity" will follow in their
parish hall.
This year two other groups will join the celebration:
St. Mesrob, Armenian Church of Canada and Ottawa Mar
Thoma Church, Diocese of North America and Europe.
Working, understanding and sharing together.
Domenica prossima, 23 Gennaio, ore 19:30, Celebrazione
Ecumenica di Preghiera per l’Unità dei Cristiani con la
Parrocchia di S. Marco (anglicana).
Si svolgerà per la 8va volta nella loro chiesa alle ore 19:30;
potremo seguire e partecipare con un libretto bilingue
(inglese e italiano) preparato per l'occasione; seguirà un
momento di "fraternità" nella loro sala parrocchiale.

DAL VANGELO Gv 1,29-34
Nessuno può pretendere di “conoscere” pienamente il Signore
prima del tempo del faccia a faccia che tutti un giorno avremo
(1Cor 13,12). Per quanto ferma e forte possa essere, la
professione di fede deve restare umile.
“Io l'ho conosciuto veramente solo quando quella parola, quel
fatto mi hanno improvvisamente rivelato la sua vera e
profonda personalità, il suo mistero”. È una constatazione che
ricorre spesso riguardo a persone frequentate per molti anni, a
volte addirittura fin dall'infanzia. Quest'esperienza comune è
stata fatta, a maggior ragione, da coloro che hanno avvicinato
Gesù, a cominciare da Maria, sua madre (Lc 2,50). Non
bisogna quindi stupirsi di fronte a un Giovanni Battista che
ripete con insistenza a proposito di Gesù: “Io non lo conoscevo”. Ne aveva certamente sentito parlare con ammirazione dai
suoi genitori. Intuiva, senza dubbio, che il figlio di Maria non
era una persona qualunque, forse addirittura che Dio aveva
delle mire particolari su questo suo cugino di qualche mese più
giovane di lui. Ma è occorsa la rivelazione divina, la teofania
(manifestazione di Dio) del battesimo, perché il precursore
vedesse in Gesù il Figlio di Dio, l'Agnello di Dio che toglie il
peccato del mondo. Questa rivelazione iniziale non lo ha
preservato da ulteriori interrogativi ed esitazioni (Mt 11,2-3),
ma è stata così importante che l'evangelista ha voluto che i
cristiani ne conservassero il ricordo. Essi devono infatti
riferirvisi continuamente, pensando al loro battesimo, senza
stupirsi se incontrano momenti di dubbio o di perplessità. Per
il credente, come per la Chiesa, il vero volto di Gesù si svela
solo a poco a poco, nel corso di un cammino di fede percorso
lentamente, laboriosamente. È così per tutti, anche per coloro
che hanno avuto la grazia di un'illuminazione folgorante.
“Ecco l’agnello di Dio, colui che toglie il peccato del
mondo!”. Sì, perché il Dio che viene ad incontrarci nel
Vangelo non regna, non è indifferente alla sofferenza umana,
non vive in un posto lontano godendosi egoisticamente la sua
condizione. E' un Dio che, al contrario, si prende a cuore tutta
la sofferenza. Lui la conosce (Es 3,7). La notizia di Dio che si
fa uomo in Gesù non ci lascia indifferenti: Dio viene nel cuore
della nostra vita, si lascia toccare dalla nostra sofferenza
umana, si pone con noi le nostre domande, si compenetra della
nostra disperazione: “Mio Dio, perché mi hai abbandonato?”
(Mc 15,34).
Giovanni Battista dice di Gesù: “Ecco l’Agnello di Dio, che
toglie il peccato del mondo”.
Ecco questo Dio che si lascia ferire dalla cattiveria dell’uomo,
che si lascia commuovere dalla sofferenza di questa terra.
Egli ha voluto avvicinarsi il più possibile a noi, è nel seno
della nostra vita, con i suoi dolori e le sue contraddizioni, le
sue falle e i suoi abissi.
È in questo che la nostra fede cristiana si distingue da qualsiasi
altra religione. Gesù sulla croce - Dio nel mezzo della
sofferenza umana: questa notizia è per noi un’incredibile
consolazione. È vicino al mio dolore, egli mi capisce, sa come
mi sento. Questa notizia implica allo stesso tempo un’esistenza
scomoda: impegnati per coloro che, nel nostro mondo, stanno
affondando, che naufragano nell’anonimato, che sono torturati,
che vengono assassinati, che muoiono di fame o deperiscono...
Sono tutti tuoi fratelli e tue sorelle!
FROM THE GOSPEL John 1,29-34
No one can claim to completely "know" the Lord before the
face to face encounter that one day we will all (1Cor 13.12
confront. As firm and strong as the profession of faith can be it
must remain humble.
"I've really known him only when that word that fact suddenly
revealed to me his true and profound personality, his
mystery." It is something that often happens about people we
know for many years, sometimes even since childhood. This
common experience was felt, even more so, by those who were
close to Jesus, starting with Mary, his mother (Lk. 2.50). It is
therefore no wonder when John the Baptist insistently repeats
about Jesus: "I didn't know him." He had certainly heard his
parents talk about Jesus with admiration. He knew without
doubt that the son of Mary was not just anybody, maybe even
that God had special designs on his cousin a few months
younger than him. But divine revelation incurred, the
Theophany (manifestation of God) of baptism, because the
predecessor beheld in Jesus the son of God, the Lamb of God
who takes away the sin of the world. This original revelation
did not spare him from further questions and hesitations (Mt
4.4-3), but it was so important that the Evangelist wanted that
Christians would preserve the memory. They must continually
refer to this principle, thinking about their baptism, without
being in awe if they face moments of doubt or perplexity. For
the believer, as for the Church, the real face of Jesus is
revealed only little by little, over the course of a slow and
laborious journey of faith. It is so for everyone, even for those
who have had the grace of amazing enlightenment.
"Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the
world!". Yes, because the God who comes to meet us in the
Gospel doesn’t reign, he is not indifferent to human suffering,
he doesn’t live in a place away selfishly enjoying his
circumstance. It's a God who, on the contrary, cares about all
suffering. He knows it (E.g. 3.7). The news of God who makes
himself man in Jesus leaves us indifferent: God is in the heart
of our lives, he is touched by our human suffering, he poses
with us the same questions, and he permeates our despair: "my
God, why hast thou forsaken me?" (Mc 15, 34).
John the Baptist says to Jesus: "Behold the Lamb of God who
takes away the sin of the world".
Here is this God who is hurt by the wickedness of man, that is
to say, from the suffering of this earth.
He wanted to get as close as possible to us, he is in the bosom
of our life, with his sorrows and his contradictions, his flaws
and abyss.
It is this that distinguishes our Christian faith from any other
religion. Jesus on the cross-God in the midst of human
suffering: for us this news is an incredible comfort. It is close
to my pain, he understands me, and he knows how I feel. This
news denotes an uncomfortable existence: committed to those
who, in our world, are sinking, are keeling over in anonymity,
they are tortured, murdered, dying of starvation or deteriorate
... They are all your brothers and your sisters!
