Dear Sister,
May the joy of the Gospel dwell in your heart every moment so that your community may
also rejoice with your presence!
As I write we are living a time between two great solemnities: Pentecost, where the
Comforter has revived the passion for the people of God and the solemnity of the Holy Apostles in
which Peter and Paul teach us to take care of this people, according to the heart of the Good
Shepherd.
But we're also at a time when it seems that the only topic of common interest be the Soccer
World Cup. Just as I was coming back from Brazil after the canonical visitation of the Sisters of the
Province Jesus Good Shepherd-Caxias do Sul, during a forced stopover at the international airport
of Sao Paulo, June 10, I came across a leaflet titled "Joga limpo na Copa" 1 that carried a phrase
that caught my curiosity: "Football is the art of living your life!"
Initially it seemed an exaggerated claim, then reading also the inaugural-greeting of Pope
Francis on the occasion of the opening of the World Cup, I understood and appreciated better what
the sentence in the pamphlet, meant to express, which I had found in the Ecumenical Chapel of
Guarulhos airport.
In the light of this, while taking a cue from the challenges of the Pope, I would like to return,
together with you, to some of his expressions that can help us to live better our personal vocation,
but also the relationships within our parish and religious communities of the Congregation, in the
local church and with our world.
From sports, says the Holy Father, you can draw three lessons that promote peace and
help us to build it in order to celebrate this World Cup as a feast of solidarity among peoples and
not just a Sports Festival: training, teamwork and respect.
I like to think that this triad can help us also to refresh some basic attitudes in our daily
journey. Together let us look at them as the Pope proposed them and identify what can be
worthwhile for us and for the Congregation at this stage of life:
The first lesson in sport practice deals with the need of hard training. In fact Francis says:
"In life you must strive, “train", to achieve good results. Sports show how important intense and
consistent training and sacrifice are necessary for becoming better. If, for a person to improve, a
constant and hard “training” is necessary, what greater effort needs to be accomplished to achieve
the encounter and the peace between individuals and among ‘enlightened’ peoples! ».
I seem to grasp here, for each of us, in whatever situation we are living, a good invitation to
wrestle, to assume that continuous training in the Spirit, which is called discernment, to recognize
where today the Lord is speaking to us, and where instead is selfishness, pride or individualism
guiding us.

The second attitude underscored by the Pope is fair play, that fairness in the game that
emphasizes team play: “ ... we must think first of all for the good of the group, and not for our own
... To win, you have to overcome individualism, selfishness, all forms of racism, intolerance and
exploitation of the human person. (…) since, when we are fomihnas (individualists and selfish) in
life, ignoring the people who surround us, the whole society is damaged ».
This could also apply to me, to you, to the Circumscriptions of our Congregation, especially
when we allow ourselves to be taken hold by our projects and act in the local without a universal
vision, whereby we risk damaging the entire family and the mission entrusted to the community
itself. Let us often bring to memory the words of the Apostle Peter: "All of you live in harmony with
one another: be sympathetic, love as brothers, and be compassionate and humble." (1Pt 3:8).
The third lesson that is emphasized is respect. Again the Pope affirms: « The secret of
victory on the field and also in life lies in knowing how to respect my teammate and my adversary.
Nobody wins on his own, neither on the pitch nor in life! No one is to isolate or feel excluded! (…)
learning the lessons that sport teaches us, everybody will come out winners, strengthening the
bonds that unite us. ».
This last attitude could encourage each of us to recognize and respect the differences
within the Congregation, due to culture, age, pastoral sensitivity, etc. Differences that find their
unity only in Christ, the Good Shepherd, to whom we have said our yes and on whom we wager
our lives. We can be helped by bring to memory the hymn to charity of the Apostle Paul especially
verse 5 in 1 Corinthians 13: “Love is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps
no record of wrongs”.
Let us then leave to the Holy Trinity, communion in difference, to purify our hearts and our
communities by making more and more fecund, our presence in the company of men and women
of this time and within this troubled history: "Let us ask day and night to guard in us that holiness
and life that comes from his Grace." 2
"Life is great like football!" I read in the brochure mentioned above, and then wondered:
"Why today a simple ball manages to move and excite so many people and the whole world,
whereas the announcement of the Resurrection seems to inflame, no more, not even the hearts of
believers in Christ?"
Let us treasure the lessons received from Pope Francis ... even in the light of our Founder's
exhortation: "Love the Congregation and help it in all ways. To love the Congregation is to love
God, the Church, souls. See it this way! At times we must blame ourselves of indifference, lack of
love, of participation, Always in a warm spirit: heart and ambiance glowing, generous dedication,
but also joyful and happy”3, we will be able to live with the Spirit’s creativity the meaning of this
world media event…Could this be a small and humble step to learn the art of team work even to
accomplish our mission and announce the Kingdom of God in communion and joy!

From the Sisters of the General Government
“God is love, and whoever remains in love
remains in God and God remains in them.”
(1Jn 4:16b)
Motivated by the love of God who daily invites us to remain in Him, we lived this time in the
midst of our daily commitments with the certainty that His presence is light and guide in the service
to the Congregation and to the Church.
At the end of March we welcomed in our community some Sisters from the different countries
who participated in the pilgrimage from 31 March to 7 April to mark the Centenary of the birth of the
Pauline Family: Sr Maria da Gloria Anacleto, Sr Rosilda De Lima, Sr Seli Rico and Sr Mery Veloza
Caballero from BR SP-Gabon; Sr Silvia Chae from Korea. Two Sisters from the ICS Province, Sr
Luigina and Sr Pasquina Ferreri, also participated in the pilgrimage. It was a very enriching
experience not only for them who had the possibility to live these days of grace but also for us who
shared in the joy of being family.
The preparation for Easter was lived in communion with the Parish of San Bruno to which we
belong, participating in several Holy Week celebrations together with the pastors and the people of
God, through the animation of some community moments such as the celebration of Lauds on
Good Friday and Holy Saturday.
On Holy Tuesday morning, we had the exchange of Easter wishes with our Sisters of the four
communities of Albano, sharing with simplicity and joy our lives as Pastorelle, daughters of
Alberione.
During the same week Sr. Marta and Sr Marisa carried out the canonical visit to the Charism
Studies community (Roma-Traversari), which is dependent on the General Government, reviewing
the journey of the past year and sharing with the Sisters’ prayer and community life.
Sr Aminta Sarmiento spent her vacation with her family and also with the Sisters of the
central house of the Delegation CO-VE-ME. Last 27 April, on the occasion of the Canonization of
Popes John XXIII and John Paul II, we welcomed in our community some persons: priests coming
from Italy and from abroad who participated in this great ecclesial event which filled our hearts with
joy and brought us together with the whole of the Church, to thank God for these two new saints.
During this period two visits were also carried out: a canonical visit to the Province of BR
Caxias-Uruguay and the other a finalized visit to Taiwan. The first was carried out from 5 May to 9
June by Sr Marta Finotelli, Superior General, and the Councillors, Sr Inácia dos Santos and Sr
Marisa Loser. They visited all the Sisters of the Province using inter-community encounters with
the animation of the Lectio Divina on John 21:1-19: “Do you love me?... Feed!”, which then
introduced the visit to each single community. Sr Rita Ruzzene carried out the visit to the
community of Taiwan, dependent on the General Government, last May1-6, in order to review the
journey of the community and the pastoral commitments of the past year. She then continued her
journey to Australia for a vacation time with her family.
The hospitality, the openness and the fraternity offered by our Sisters were clear signs of the
presence of the Good Shepherd who continues His work of love in each Sister and in every
community. We are certain that He accompanies and gives light to ‘remain in Him’ in creative

fidelity “to be a renewed presence in the Church” of Brazil and of Taiwan. At the conclusion of the
visit to the Province BR-CdS, Sr Inácia remained the Brazil for her vacation.
At this time, the course on the Charism of the Pauline Family also concluded. Sr Maria Lim
Hee Jung had participated and the event was celebrated with the Generalate community before
her return to Taiwan.
Another activity that engaged in some way the entire community has been the creation of the
garden, intended not only as a place where one can meditate and be immersed in nature, but also
as a space to reap the fruits of Providence.
In these months some of our missionary Sisters are in Italy: Sr Virginia Piu, Sr Saveria De
Montis and Sr Adriana Ciacchini, from the Delegation CI-PE; and also Sr Claudia Davis, of the
Delegation ARG-BO, who will be part of the community of Pemba, in Africa, which belongs to the
Province ICN. At the same time Sr Candida de Angelis has returned to Australia, after spending a
period in Italy, sharing also with us different moments.
We now continue with our itinerary already close for the celebration of the 7th Interchapter to
be held at the Generalate in August, amidst the celebration of the Centenary of the Pauline Family.
Along with the desire to share a time of grace for the entire Congregation, we open our hearts to
welcome every Sister responsible of a circumscription and thus share an experience of communion
and fraternity that will strengthen our ties founded in the Holy Trinity.
With the hope that each of us may remain in God, the true Vine, and thus bear abundant
fruits, we accompany you with prayer and affection.

"Living the compassion of Jesus the Good Shepherd who gives life,
rooted in the Word, and in communion and pastoral conversion,
we accompany each Sister in her personal, communitarian and apostolic reality".
WITH PROFOUND FAITH THROUGH DIALOGUE AND DISCERNMENT
As the Government team, we answered with faith and hope to the call of the Good Shepherd
who asked us to serve our Sisters through the service of authority. In the journey of everyday life,
we try to be attentive to the voice of the Spirit who guides us and communicates to every Sister the
grace to live in fraternity with only one objective: to carry out God's will in our Delegation.
Our service of Government began on October 7, 2013. It has been enriching to work together
despite the different characters and cultures, always looking for the highest good for every Sister
and each community. During this time we experienced the compassion of the Good Shepherd who
leads us with a serene and constant pedagogy, inviting us to do the same in the awareness of the
reality of our Delegation, for each sister in their specific commitment and in the various urgencies
of each community and the countries in which we find ourselves. It has taken great commitment,
dedication, and especially much faith and hope, to accompany these realities, which at sometimes
have not been easy and to plan for the future.
We believe is was a grace of the Lord, having had, at the beginning of our service, the
canonical visit of the General Government and the Assembly of the Delegation in the context of the
50th anniversary of our presence in Colombia; illuminated by the words of Jesus: "Do you love me
... Feed ". It was for us as Government team and as a Delegation, an impetus, to assess and
project together the journey ahead. The canonical visit was also an opportunity to confirm our faith

in the Risen Jesus, to whom we want to remain unconditionally united; and to acknowledge our
pastoral care as the result of our intimate relationship with Him.
Currently in our Delegation, composed of three nations, we perceive many riches and
fragility. We feel challenged to accompany the Sisters with an attitude of on-going conversion, a
change of mentality, in all areas of our life: in being and exercising pastoral care, in the formation
of our young Sisters and in vocation ministry. We feel that the Good Shepherd is leading us
towards a renewal, inviting us to accept the new cultures and social realities, in the midst of a
globalized and increasingly secularized world.
Aware that the sharing of our life experiences enriches us, and that there are many graces
and joys had at this time, we feel privileged in the love of God. Thanks to the availability of each
Sister in assuming the changes aimed to renew each community, accepting with faith and hope the
cultural diversity of each nation and the pastoral challenges presented in the plans for
evangelization in every local church. All of this which is most precious, we have been able to
encounter in our Delegation.
Despite our limitations, aging and at times lack of health, we see that new pastoral horizons
are opening up, while experiencing that our charism and our spirituality are valued and sought out
in our Church; they are appreciated and understood by the parish communities where we are
present, always looking for the most disadvantaged. Within our pastoral service and as an
important lung of our Delegation, we have the School James Alberione, where we give a human
and Christian education to children and their families.
Aware that today in Latin America Vocation Ministry has become a challenge, we trust in
God who leads our Delegation and continues to call forth vocations. In view of this, we personally
assume the commitment by being available to welcome every young person, with joy and with the
desire to help them in their vocational discernment.
At this time we wanted to give an impetus to the Center of Pastoral Spirituality as the font
which animates us to cultivate our personal community and apostolic life. This year the Center,
began with the preparation of the themes for the monthly retreats for the whole Delegation, and
this helps us to feel even more in communion with one another.
We wish to engage in the formation of the laity, by fostering and accompanying them in
growing in their ecclesial commitment, in view that some of them may become Pauline
Cooperators "Friends of Jesus Good Shepherd", sharing in our spirituality and mission. We had the
joy of a first group of six Pauline Cooperators of Mexico, who made their promises on the Feast of
Jesus Good Shepherd.
We ask the Lord to give us wisdom and discernment in carrying out this demanding service.

 Nominated the Councillors for the Philippines- Australia- Saipan Province, for the new
Government of the next four years 2014- 2018, composed as follows:

 Has approved the Formation Program for the Juniorate of the Delegation Chile- Peru

Province PI-AU-SA
 Has finalised the calendar and the modality for the canonical visit of the Province Brazil
Caxias do Sul, which was carried out by the General Superior, Sr Marta Finotelli and
the Councillors Sr Inácia dos Santos and Sr Marisa Loser from 5 May to 9 June
2014.
 Has considered the finalized visit to Taiwan which was carried out by Sr Rita Ruzzene,
Vicar General, from the 1-6 May 2014.
 Has considered the topics to be dealt at the meeting with the Sisters of the ECIR
(Central Equipe of Information and Reflection), which was held on 21-23 March 2014.
 Has continued the reflection on the modality and organization of the work for the 7th
General Inter-chapter which will be held in Rome, at the Generalate from 17 to 31
August 2014.
 Has asked the PI-AU-SA Province and has received the availability of Sr Marylin
Delalamon to be part of the ECIR, for the English speaking language and will reside in
Rome. She welcomed the desire of Sr Rosario De Guzman to help in assisting the
sick and elderly Sisters. Sister is destined for the ICS Province.
 Has met on 26 April, the two Italian Provincial Superiors for an initial exchange of
reflection on the care of the sick and elderly Sisters.

Has considered the Regulation of the Pauline Co-operators “Friends of Jesus Good
Shepherd” received from the circumscriptions of Argentina-Bolivia e Korea and made
some observations.

Vita Religiosa in Cuba
Appena arrivate in Cuba, abbiamo incontrato la ricchezza di una vita religiosa vissuta in una
forte fraternità intercongregazionale: amicizia, semplicità, collaborazione e mutuo aiuto sono le sue
note. La CONCUR (Conferenza Cubana di Religiose/i) anima e promuove questo stile di vivere la
missione qui.
Attualmente sono presenti 95 Congregazioni Religiose, 70 femminili e 25 maschili. Siamo
585 religiose e 189 religiosi, distribuiti in 223 comunità; soltanto il 23% sono cubani. Quasi tutti
collaboriamo nell’evangelizzazione diretta nelle parrocchie: catechesi, visita alle famiglie,
formazione di operatori pastorali. Poco a poco si aprono, per alcune Congregazioni, la possibilità di
esercitare la missione specifica (ricoveri per anziani, scuole materne, mense per i poveri).
Nel mese di maggio si è celebrata l’Assemblea di Superiori Maggiori, con la presenza della
Presidente della CLAR (Conferenza Latinoamericana dei Religiosi), occasione in cui sono stati
consegnati i nuovi Statuti approvati dalla Santa Sede nel novembre 2013 ed è stata eletta la nuova
equipe direttiva, formata da sorelle e fratelli di diverse nazionalità, tra cui due cubane, ben
rappresentanti la nostra realtà. Questi sono tutti doni dello Spirito per far presente la misericordia e
la tenerezza del Padre in mezzo a questo popolo che ci accoglie con generosità e affetto.
Brasile CdS - Uruguay
Festa della Famiglia
Il 29 marzo, la scuola Gesù Maestro e Pastore, in Caxias do Sul, ha avuto la gioia di
celebrare la “Festa della Famiglia”. Erano presenti molti familiari e alunni, insegnanti e funzionari
della scuola. L’evento ha avuto inizio con una calorosa accoglienza da parte della Direzione,
evidenziando l’importanza della collaborazione tra scuola e famiglia nel processo di insegnamento
e apprendimento.
È stato un giorno di convivenza diverso e soprattutto, un momento di riflessione su “lazer em
família” nel contesto odierno. È stata un’opportunità anche per l’integrazione e la conoscenza tra le
famiglie della scuola. Gli alunni, con la canzone “Vou cuidar da minha família” di P. Ezequiel Dal
Pozzo, hanno manifestato il desiderio di aver a cuore la famiglia. Gli insegnanti hanno organizzato
le attività di gioco e di intrattenimento.
Per tutto quello che è stato vissuto nasce la gratitudine a Dio, Pastore della vita, e in modo
particolare per la presenza significativa di molti familiari che hanno accettato l’invito; per le persone
che hanno animato e organizzato l’evento e per chi gratuitamente ha messo a disposizione lo
spazio per la festa.
Brasile SP - Gabon
“Giovani messaggeri di amore e di riconciliazione”
Questo è il titolo della 9ª Edizione del Festival degli alunni delle nove scuole cattoliche di
Libreville - Gabon - Africa che si è svolto il 17 maggio. Sr Sônia de Fátima Batagin è impegnata in
una di queste scuole partecipanti al Festival. La festa è stata preceduta da una intensa

preparazione che ha chiesto agli alunni molte attività ludiche e l’elaborazione di una lettera con
tema pastorale indirizzata all’Arcivescovo locale.
Circa cinquemila giovani hanno partecipato all’incontro che ha avuto inizio con l’Eucaristia,
alla quale è seguita la presentazione delle attività. Giovani animatori hanno potuto dare l’annuncio
evangelico ad altri giovani.
Obiettivo del festival è aiutare i giovani a lasciare le cattive abitudini in favore di una vita
degna. È stata sottolineata la riconciliazione come atteggiamento fondamentale di tutti gli essere
umani. E il continente africano grida la riconciliazione, come ad esempio in Nigeria, dove le
mamme lottano ogni giorno alla ricerca delle figlie tenute prigioniere dal gruppo terrorista Boko
Haram. In questa realtà siamo chiamati ad essere riflessi dell’amore di Gesù e a proteggere la vita!
La lettera inviata all’Arcivescovo è stata letta nella messa da una adolescente chiamata Rita,
sottolineando la preoccupazione per la riconciliazione dei fratelli del continente africano.
I giovani sono stati motivati a coltivare due virtù principali: l’umiltà e il perdono! Agendo in
questo modo, si possono seguire le orme di Gesù che è la Via! Soltanto con l’esercizio del
perdono possiamo dare prova che siamo suoi discepoli! (cf. Mt 5, 41)
Cile – Perù
La domenica della Solennità dell’Ascensione del Signore, le sorelle della comunità di
Mangomarca (Perù) hanno avviato l’itinerario formativo per i Cooperatori Paolini “Amici di Gesù
Buon Pastore”. L’invito è stato accolto da loro con entusiasmo e disponibilità e con la certezza che
il Buon Pastore li ha chiamati al servizio del suo popolo come discepoli secondo il suo cuore.
Colombia - Venezuela – Messico
L’11 maggio, domenica del Buon Pastore, giornata mondiale di preghiera per le Vocazioni,
nella comunità di Lomas Estrella (Messico), i Cooperatori Paolini “Amici di Gesù Buon Pastore”,
hanno fatto le Promesse durante l’Eucaristia presieduta da don Faustino Hernández, superiore
provinciale della Società San Paolo. Ciascuno di loro ha ascoltato l’invito di Gesù: “Andate anche
voi nella vigna” (Mt 20,4) per rispondere con generosità al servizio della Chiesa attraverso il nostro
carisma nella missione pastorale.
Filippine – Australia – Saipan
Itinerario quaresimale nella parrocchia di Payneham (Adelaide S.A)
Nella parrocchia "Nostra Signora della Pace” di Payneham, sono presenti e operano nella
cura pastorale le Pastorelle: Anna Genovese e Candida De Angelis. Durante i tempi forti della
Quaresima e dell’Avvento accompagnano ogni settimana più di dieci gruppi, in lingua inglese ed
italiano, in varie località della parrocchia, per ascoltare, meditare e riflettere sul Vangelo della
domenica.
Quest’anno l’itinerario quaresimale della Lectio Divina è stato arricchito dalla lettura e
riflessione sull’esortazione apostolica "La gioia del Vangelo". La gente ha partecipato con interesse
ed entusiasmo condividendo le proprie esperienze e impegnandosi a comunicare agli altri le
ricchezze ricevute. Anche le suore fanno l’esperienza di come la grazia di Dio opera con efficacia
attraverso la preghiera e l’ascolto della Parola di Dio. Ciò riempie di gratitudine e di gioia nel
constatare il cammino di continua conversione e nel vedere emergere in ogni gruppo e in ogni
persona energie spirituali di gioia, di amore e di zelo che prepara a celebrare la pienezza della vita
nella Pasqua di Risurrezione.
Nel tempo Ordinario questi gruppi si radunano una volta al mese e sono sempre momenti
di grazia e di benedizione per tutti.

Italia Centro Nord - Mozambico
Sguardi sulla vita quotidiana
Le sorelle della comunità Maria Madre del Buon Pastore di Negrar (VR) condividono la loro
esperienza:
“Le parole non sono mai sufficienti ad esprimere la vita, ma possono raccontarne qualche
aspetto, perciò condividiamo con voi qualche momento della nostra esperienza quotidiana,
considerando che siamo la comunità più numerosa della Provincia.
Dalla fondazione della casa - 8 settembre 1993, la comunità ha via via adattato e modificato
il proprio progetto comunitario e apostolico. Dalla finalità iniziale, che prevedeva una casa per
sorelle anziane con possibilità di qualche esperienza apostolica parrocchiale ed anche di
accoglienza-animazione di gruppi laicali per giornate di spiritualità, si è passate necessariamente
alla sola accoglienza e cura di sorelle ammalate, le quali, anche per la vicinanza all’Ospedale S.
Cuore, possono godere di prestazioni mediche tempestive e specializzate.
La nostra, come tutte le comunità di Pastorelle, ha un progetto comunitario condiviso
secondo le varie aeree e dimensioni e si articola in modo da favorire il coordinamento della vita
quotidiana, delle iniziative, dei servizi e impegni di ogni giorno.
Ad oggi la comunità è costituita da 35 membri stabili, a cui si aggiungono altre sorelle per
brevi periodi e familiari lontani di sorelle inferme. Siamo persone diverse per età, condizione fisica
e compiti, ma tutte insieme formiamo una bella famiglia che si aiuta e incoraggia nei momenti
difficili e che sa condividere la gioia dei momenti belli.
Dalla Parola di Dio e dalla Regola di Vita, riceviamo luce e orientamento per vivere la vita
consacrata nell’oggi della nostra realtà. La preghiera liturgica, l’impegno nella formazione continua,
il cammino con la Congregazione, i momenti di festa, la responsabilità e collaborazione ci

Da poco più di un mese la comunità delle suore Pastorelle di Barletta è stata arricchita dalla
presenza di due nuove persone, di tappe formative distinte: sr Clara Lee, della Delegazione Corea,
che si prepara alla professione perpetua e Valentina Nika, giovane albanese, che si prepara ad
entrare in noviziato. Sr Clara e Valentina condividono con noi la gioia di un’importante esperienza
di interculturalità e il loro cammino di ricerca verso un’unica meta: la sequela a Gesù Buon
Pastore!

“Siamo nella comunità delle Suore Pastorelle di Barletta, che vive la propria missione
pastorale nella Chiesa parrocchiale di San Giovanni apostolo, da due mesi. In questo tempo le
nostre giornate sono state davvero ricche! Abbiamo partecipato alla liturgia della Settimana Santa,
abbiamo vissuto la Pasquetta con i ragazzi e i giovani della parrocchia, e ancora … la celebrazione
della prima comunione, la settimana Vocazionale in occasione del settimo anniversario della
Dedicazione della Parrocchia. Un momento davvero significativo è stata l’ordinazione diaconale di
sette seminaristi, tra cui un giovane che vive il suo ministero in questa nostra parrocchia. In tutti
questi momenti ci siamo sentite davvero parte di questa comunità parrocchiale in cui si esprime,
nelle sue varie forme, il carisma pastorale consegnatoci dal Beato Giacomo Alberione. Abbiamo
potuto vedere come il parroco, le suore e tutti i fedeli si ritrovano insieme nelle diverse occasioni e
in Cristo sono davvero felici.
Stiamo vivendo due tappe diverse del cammino formativo, ma questa esperienza
sicuramente sarà di grande aiuto per la crescita di entrambe. Dopo questo tempo, rientrando nei
nostri luoghi di origine porteremo nel cuore questa avventura, ricorderemo questa comunità, come

essa viva il carisma pastorale nella sua modalità specifica, con quello spirito e quella gioia tipici
della suora Pastorella. Ringraziamo il Signore, la comunità e le nostre superiore per averci dato la
possibilità di vivere in modo pieno questa tappa della nostra vita; ci affidiamo a Gesù buon Pastore
e alla preghiera di ogni Pastorella.”
Carissime Sorelle,
in quest’occasione vorrei condividervi il frutto dell’ascolto di una conferenza tenuta dal Prof.
Stefano Zamagni, economista e docente, nonché persona credente che manifesta apertamente ciò
che la Chiesa ha donato lungo i secoli e continua a donare per il bene dell’umanità.
La conferenza tenutasi all’Angelicum (Pontificia Università San Tommaso D’Aquino) nei
giorni scorsi, ha avuto come titolo:
COSA STA AVVENENDO OGGI NELL’ECONOMIA MONDIALE?
All’inizio ha fatto una panoramica di ciò che è avvenuto a livello economico negli ultimi
trent’anni, ricordando come la globalizzazione non è un processo spontaneo, ma il frutto di una
iniziativa a livello politico e una decisione che risale agli anni ’70 in una delle riunioni del G7.
Perciò, secondo il Prof. Zamagni, sarà solo un intervento politico a dover risolvere i problemi che la
globalizzazione ha creato.
Tra gli effetti della globalizzazione ha menzionato la cultura della competitività tra gli Stati e
non più tra le imprese - ne è prova che oggi gli Ambasciatori sono specialisti in marketing; e il
mercato del lavoro globale è divenuto normale e quindi in molti rimangono senza posto di lavoro.
Inoltre il capitalismo globale è diventato religione immanentista e questo l’ha capito Papa
Francesco, che denuncia apertamente e demistifica il capitalismo. Questo capitalismo globale
passa tramite i mezzi di comunicazione sociale, basta osservare come oggi non esiste il
marketing, ma il messaggio pubblicitario rivolto non più all’oggetto, ma al soggetto. Ci invitava a
guardare gli spot pubblicitari per verificare questo particolare che ha come scopo quello di incidere
per modificare i comportamenti dei consumatori.
Un altro dato di fatto è che oggi assistiamo ad una inversione dei ruoli tra mercato e
democrazia. Se in passato la politica era considerata il regno dei fini, l’etica il regno dei valori e
l’economia il regno dei mezzi; oggi forse ci troviamo di fronte ad un’economia che è diventata il
regno dei fini e la politica il regno dei mezzi. Oggi sono i mercati che definiscono i fini e la politica
deve eseguire. Con una certa ironia il Prof. Zamagni dice che quest’ultimo capovolgimento spiega
perché oggi non scendono in politica i migliori… perché essi non desiderano essere al servizio
dell’economia/finanza.
Parlando della finanza ci ha ricordato come essa sia un’opera Francescana e Domenicana,
che era stata pensata e voluta per il bene comune. Le imprese così potevano avere risorse per
raggiungere gli obiettivi. Oggi invece la finanza ha perso di vista il bene comune ed è diventata fine
a se stessa, basti sapere che il volume di transazioni finanziarie supera 7 volte il PIL (Prodotto
interno lordo) mondiale.
Davanti a questo scenario ci si chiede, quale democrazia è possibile se le scelte sono
dettate dall’economia? Cosa fare di fronte al capitalismo globale che è diventato una forza frenante
del progresso sociale e morale?

Vediamo che non basta la volontà politica, ma è necessaria la volontà morale e cioè
qualcuno che spinga nella direzione della giustizia e del primato della persona. E’ proprio questo
che Papa Francesco sta facendo e una delle sue iniziative si svolgerà a luglio. Commentava il
Prof. Zamagni, che il Papa mette al centro il primato del bene e quindi può osare e ci invita a fare
lo stesso come credenti.
A conclusione tra le provocazioni finali c’era l’invito a non scoraggiarci, ma a dare il nostro
contributo per il cambiamento. Un contributo che può essere dato attraverso l’economia solidale, la
finanza etica, la testimonianza di non arrendersi di fronte al sistema operante, che è iniquo. Forse
le nostre piccole iniziative sull’essenzialità e l’oculatezza dei consumi, della salvaguardia del
creato, nel non avere conti in Banche che sfruttano i minori o finanziano le armi, il favorire reti di
solidarietà, ecc.; possono fare la differenza nei diversi ambienti dove viviamo il nostro ministero.
Queste provocazioni la nostra Congregazione le ha già fatte motivo di riflessione e,
successivamente, di impegno attraverso il Progetto Economico Generale (PEG), in particolare
possiamo rivisitare il capitolo VII dove troviamo le linee d’azione e scelte operative. Questi piccoli
accorgimenti/scelte anche quotidiane possono sembrare insignificanti, ma contribuiscono in modo
efficace al cambiamento verso una economia/finanza che torni ad essere al servizio dell’uomo e
non viceversa come accade oggi.
Ringraziamo il Signore per questo tempo Pasquale vissuto nella gioia del Risorto che ci
sprona a non avere paura perché Lui è con noi sino alla fine del mondo.
Affidiamo a Lui i nostri sforzi nel vivere il Vangelo e contribuire alla costruzione del suo
Regno di giustizia e di pace. Preghiamo secondo le intenzioni dei nostri benefattori, amici, familiari
e per quanti pregano per noi e con noi. Invochiamo la Provvidenza Divina su ogni realtà umana e
ci impegniamo a corrispondere nella fedeltà di una vita donata nella gratuità ogni giorno.

SCOPRIAMO LA GIOIA DI RITROVARE LE NOSTRE ORIGINI
Il gruppo di studenti del Corso sul carisma 2013-2014 ha realizzato dal 4 al 9 maggio il
tradizionale pellegrinaggio, passando dalle aule scolastiche ai luoghi delle origini della Famiglia
Paolina. Quest’anno speciale del centenario, a Narzole, il gruppo ha avuto la gioia di partecipare
alle celebrazioni in onore del Beato Timoteo Giaccardo ed essere partecipe e testimone
dell'entusiasmo che ha caratterizzato l’evento: disegni elaborati dai bambini di diverse età e
creazioni della fantasia dei piccoli della scuola materna fino ai bei quadri dipinti dai ragazzi; i primi
passi del museo; i meravigliosi progetti. Nel pomeriggio hanno potuto partecipare all'arrivo
dell’urna del Beato Giaccardo ad Alba. Le visite alle case Madri sono state edificanti per l’esempio
di tanti fratelli e sorelle della Famiglia Paolina ormai anziani, testimoni della gioia di vivere la
propria vocazione paolina anche se alcuni di loro sperimentano la croce della malattia.

Alla fine del percorso fatto, gli studenti hanno sottolineato che il pellegrinaggio non si è
concluso, anzi è iniziato con questa esperienza d’incontro con le origini della Famiglia Paolina.
GIOIA PER IL "RITORNO AL SUO SAN PAOLO" DEL BEATO GIACCARDO
Sabato 3 maggio, l'urna del Beato Timoteo Giaccardo, accompagnata da una folla di fedeli, è stata
portata a spalle, al suono della banda musicale del popolo, dinanzi alla Casa di riposo dove è stata
accolta dal sindaco di Narzole, Fiorenzo Prever, che a nome del Comune ha ringraziato il Signore
per il dono della presenza del Beato Timoteo Giaccardo e l'ha congedato dicendo: “Ciao Pinoto”,
nome modo familiare usato dai suoi conterranei. Nel suo passaggio per Bra e Sanfrè è stata
accolta dalle autorità civili e militari locali. A Sanfrè, grande è stata la gioia delle sorelle anziane
Pie Discepole, molte delle quali, non solo hanno conosciuto il Beato ma l'hanno avuto anche come
maestro di formazione.
Lunedì 5 maggio, i resti mortali del Beato Giaccardo sono giunti al termine del viaggio. La
Famiglia Paolina albese insieme a numerosi sacerdoti della diocesi, si è ritrovata in piazza Duomo,
dove è giunta l'urna. Dopo il saluto del sindaco di Alba e la preghiera di accoglienza del Vescovo,
è iniziata la solenne processione, accompagnata dalla banda musicale, per via Maestra verso il
Tempio di San Paolo, luogo del "riposo" definitivo. Al termine del rito è stata inaugurata la mostra
fotografica da "Alba verso il mondo" realizzata nei locali attigui al Tempio.

FSP Kenya: La festa della Bibbia
Nel cuore dell’Africa Orientale, le Figlie di San Paolo del Kenya hanno rilanciato la Festa
della Bibbia tanto cara al Beato Giacomo Alberione che spesso diceva: «È urgente far penetrare il
Vangelo nelle masse» e ancora «La Bibbia sia nel cuore di ogni famiglia».
L’evento, dal tema Bibbia e famiglia, è stato preparato in collaborazione con la Chiesa locale,
in particolare con la partecipazione del parroco e del consiglio pastorale della parrocchia San
Pietro Claver nell'Arcidiocesi di Nairobi. L’iniziativa delle feste bibliche ebbe i suoi precedenti già
negli anni 90 con suor Maria Rosa Ballini, intrepida missionaria paolina in terra africana.
La Festa della Bibbia quindi nel suo rilancio si è svolta con un intenso programma di
catechesi, incontri, preghiera. Il tutto è poi terminato con la consegna di un attestato convalidante
l’impegno e l’entusiasmo dei partecipanti, che per l’occasione hanno promesso di intronizzare la
Bibbia in famiglia e di leggerla quotidianamente.

Si tratta di una serie di video che la SSP in Messico sta producendo come una denuncia
contro le ingiustizie sociali che questa nazione patisce; di fronte all'audacia dei criminali,
l'incapacità del governo messicano e i sogni e le aspirazioni di chi lavora per costruire un Messico
migliore.
L'idea di questo progetto nasce dall’iniziativa di promuovere il perdono, per favorire la
comprensione e alzare la voce perché sia fatta giustizia e sia messo in evidenza tutto ciò che
minaccia l'integrità sociale, ma soprattutto, favorendo quei valori che ci rendono sempre più
persone.

“Il rapimento delle ragazze di Chibok ha unito il Paese come non mai”
Abuja (Agenzia Fides) - Il rapimento delle circa 200 studentesse della scuola di Chibok, nel
nord della Nigeria, ha unito il Paese e ha provocato un moto di solidarietà internazionale. Lo ha
affermato Sua Ecc. Mons. Mathew Hassan Kukah, Vescovo di Sokoto, in occasione del momento
di preghiera per il rilascio delle ragazze rapite. “Nessuno singolo evento ha così unito il nostro
Paese e ha suscitato attenzione e partecipazione come ha fatto questo tragico incidente” ha detto
il Vescovo.
Sottolineando la forza della preghiera, Mons. Kukah ha affermato che “non siamo riuniti nell’
amarezza, nel dolore o nell’autocommiserazione. Siamo riuniti nelle fede e nella fiducia, sapendo
che Colui che vede tutto quello che è fatto nel segreto, premierà la nostra lunga attesa. Riunirsi
nella tristezza o nella paura significa cadere vittima ed arruolarsi nell’esercito del diavolo. Siamo
superiori a questo e la nostra fede ci chiama ad una nobiltà più alta”.
Dopo aver ringraziato gli Stati stranieri che hanno offerto aiuto per salvare le ragazze, Mons.
Kukah ha richiamato i politici nigeriani all’azione: “coloro che ci governano sono consapevoli che
abbiamo un Paese da costruire? I nostri politici comprendono che abbiamo un futuro da
realizzare? Comprenderanno che il governo è una questione così seria che non dovrebbe mai

Un opuscolo per le “Elezione 2014” in Brasile
Il Centro Nazionale di fede e politica “Dom Helder Câmara (Cefep), organismo legato alla
CNBB (Conferenza Nazionale dei Vescovi Brasiliani), in collaborazione con altre entità, ha
pubblicato l’opuscolo “Elezione 2014”, la cui tematica è “Il tuo voto ha delle conseguenze: un
nuovo mondo, una nuova società”. Il sussidio è stato presentato e consegnato ai Vescovi nella 52ª
Assemblea Generale della CNBB.
L’opuscolo sarà studiato nelle diocesi, nei gruppi, nelle comunità. Il testo ha lo scopo di
aiutare i cristiani nella preparazione per le elezioni nazionali di ottobre. La riflessione proposta dal
sussidio utilizza il metodo “vedere, giudicare e agire”.
“Con gli occhi sulle elezioni, guardiamo il Brasile con le sue caratteristiche, con le sue
conquiste e sfide, con le sue luci e ombre”, ha detto Monsignor Joaquim Mol mentre presentava
l’opuscolo e alla fine ha dimostrato la gioia nell’esprimere “l’appoggio della CNBB a questo
rilevante progetto”.

Il Medio Oriente da decenni vive le drammatiche conseguenze del protrarsi di un conflitto
che ha prodotto tante ferite difficili da rimarginare e, anche quando fortunatamente non divampa la
violenza, l’incertezza della situazione e l’incomprensione tra le parti producono insicurezza, diritti
negati, isolamento ed esodo di intere comunità, divisioni, carenze e sofferenze di ogni tipo.
Nel manifestare la mia vicinanza a quanti soffrono maggiormente le conseguenze di tale
conflitto, vorrei dire dal profondo del mio cuore che è ora di porre fine a questa situazione, che
diventa sempre più inaccettabile, e ciò per il bene di tutti. Si raddoppino dunque gli sforzi e le
iniziative volte a creare le condizioni di una pace stabile, basata sulla giustizia, sul riconoscimento
dei diritti di ciascuno e sulla reciproca sicurezza. È giunto il momento per tutti di avere il coraggio
della generosità e della creatività al servizio del bene, il coraggio della pace, che poggia sul
riconoscimento da parte di tutti del diritto di due Stati ad esistere e a godere di pace e sicurezza
entro confini internazionalmente riconosciuti.
Auspico vivamente che a tal fine si evitino da parte di tutti iniziative e atti che contraddicono
alla dichiarata volontà di giungere ad un vero accordo e che non ci si stanchi di perseguire la pace
con determinazione e coerenza. La pace porterà con sé innumerevoli benefici per i popoli di
questa regione e per il mondo intero. Occorre dunque incamminarsi risolutamente verso di essa,
anche rinunciando ognuno a qualche cosa.

Cristiani di diverse confessioni invocano la pace in Ucraina
La domanda di pace cresce in Ucraina di fronte agli scontri armati e alle violenze che hanno
colpito il paese nelle ultime settimane suscitando viva apprensione per il futuro. La Comunità di
Sant’Egidio ha convocato una preghiera per la pace nella cattedrale cattolica latina di S.
Alessandro a Kiev. La preghiera si è tenuta l’8 maggio, alla vigilia del giorno in cui si fa memoria
della fine della seconda guerra mondiale, che in Ucraina ha causato milioni di morti. Ortodossi,
cattolici latini e greco-cattolici, luterani hanno pregato per la pace in Ucraina e in tutto il mondo, per
la fine della violenza nelle regioni orientali del paese, per le vittime di Odessa e delle altre città.
“La gente cerca la pace – ha detto nell’omelia il parroco della cattedrale, padre Vitalij
Bezshkuryj – e la pace autentica è data solo da Cristo. Egli ha vinto la morte, e la nostra speranza
è in lui. Con questa speranza dobbiamo guarire i cuori affetti dall’odio verso gli altri”.
Durante la preghiera sono stati ricordati anche i bambini del Centro di riabilitazione “La vela
della speranza” di Slavjansk, sostenuti dal programma di adozioni a distanza di Sant’Egidio, i quali
insieme a tutti gli abitanti della città vivono giorni drammatici a causa dei combattimenti in corso.
Padre Georgij Kovalenko, portavoce della Chiesa ortodossa ucraina, presente alla preghiera
ha ricordato nel suo saluto finale le vittime della seconda guerra mondiale nella sua famiglia e ha
invitato a essere uniti nell’impegno per la pace, affinché il “giorno della vittoria” – come è chiamato
l’anniversario della fine del conflitto in Ucraina – divenga il “giorno della vittoria della pace”.
Alla preghiera hanno partecipato molti giovani, insieme a famiglie, anziani, religiosi.

La Chiesa: urge rivedere la politica di detenzione dei profughi a Manus Island
La Chiesa australiana chiede al governo di riconsiderare la sua politica di detenzione e
reinsediamento dei rifugiati a Manus Island, isola dove esiste il più grande Centro di raccolta e
detenzione dei profughi che si accostano alle acque australiane da diversi paesi, soprattutto dal
Sudest asiatico. Lo riferisce una nota inviata all’Agenzia Fides dall’Ufficio per i migranti e i rifugiati,
della Conferenza Episcopale australiana.
Il Vescovo Gerard Hanna, delegato dell’Episcopato per il settore dei migranti, dichiara: “Una
analisi indipendente ha evidenziato che l'attuale politica dell'Australia su migranti e rifugiati porta a
conseguenze tragiche. Tale politica, che ha un approccio punitivo verso i rifugiati in cerca di
protezione, sta mettendo a rischio la vita di molte persone: per questo ne auspichiamo una
profonda revisione”. Secondo i Vescovi, ci si potrà aspettare continui disordini a Manus Island, “se
migranti e rifugiati non avranno alcuna speranza di un cambiamento della situazione”.
L’Australia, con la sua determinazione di adottare misure deterrenti, “sta allontanando molti
veri rifugiati. Il mancato riconoscimento dei diritti umani fondamentali e questa politica
costituiscono un disprezzo per quanti arrivano sulle nostre coste in cerca di protezione” aggiunge
Mons. Hanna.
Ma, su tale delicata situazione umanitaria, nota, “il nostro governo continua a chiudere gli
occhi verso coloro che lasciano la loro patria a causa di violenze e persecuzioni”, nella speranza di
una vita migliore. Secondo la Chiesa australiana, dato che quello dei rifugiati è un fenomeno
globale in crescita, “i paesi sviluppati sono chiamati ad accettare la cura per i rifugiati, senza

The mystery of communion in the Church has its source in God: in the Trinitarian communion.
Participation in this mystery creates the koinonia in the Church, at the same time beckoning the
faithful to communicate it to all mankind.
In Latin America there grew little by little an authentic ecclesiology of communion, reflected in
particular in the statements of the Bishops’ Conferences, which in turn communicate the life giving
journey of the people of God in Latin America along with its history, from where emerged a strong
desire of communion among an oppressed and faith filled people, a people that hopes and labours.
The Latin American reality show dynamic signs of communion that influence the
development and the structuring of thoughts, in pastoral planning and in options taken. Thus, we
find the innate tendency of our people to welcome, to share, to value family ties, friendship,
relationships, the awakening of a communitarian and participatory direction, the efforts of
associations, municipal actions, volunteerism, the concern for given values such as the relational
links between our communities and groups, the existence of real families as "domestic churches",
that are example of mutual love, unity, and participation, the sense of celebration, even among the
poorest. All signs of life that awaken the hope of a continent faced with so many signs of death, to
become the continent of mercy.

continuity with the II Vatican Council, Madellin
and Puebla. A Christological reading in the key
of reconciliation and solidarity.

In reference to communion
«Every ecclesial community should strive to be an example of coexistence, where liberty and solidarity emerge
together; where authority is exercised in the spirit of the Good Shepherd; where one lives with a different attitude
richness; where new forms of organizations and participations are attempted, capable of opening a way towards a more
human society; where above all, there be manifested unequivocally that without a radical communion with God in Jesus
Christ, any other form of communion purely human is eventually unable to stand, ending fatally with turning against the
human person him/ herself. » (DP 273).

Finally in Aparecida (Brazil, 2007), with the invitation of Benedict XVI, steps were sought to
update the Church to the new realities of Latin America in the first decade of the 21st century. It
was a call to Latin American Catholics to become disciples and missionaries of Jesus Christ,
starting a renewed pastoral phase with greater apostolic zeal and commitment to evangelization,
putting emphasis on the message of life brought by Jesus, proclaimed with joy and compassion.
The entire document is a constant reminder that communion is a constitutive dimension of
the discipleship of Jesus: «Without communion there is no Discipleship» (DA156). You can't be a
Christian without belonging to the community of disciples of Jesus: «The missionary vocation to
discipleship is a co-vocation to communion in the Church ... It is nourished by the communion with
the Trinity» (DA 156,155). At the same time the overflow of the Trinitarian love urges the disciple to
become everyone's brother and a missionary, communicating with one’s own life this invitation to
all humanity
The community of missionaries disciples is « “the home and school of communion", where
the disciples share the same faith, hope and love in the service of the evangelising mission» (DA
158), It is the " community of love ", that grows not by proselytizing but “by ' attraction: ... as Christ
"attracts all to himself" with the strength of his love” The Church "attracts" when living in
communion» (AD 159). «This is its essence and sign to which it is called to be recognized as a
follower of Christ and server of humanity.» (DA 161).
This is where we, consecrated women, who attend to the pastoral ministry along with pastors
in the midst of God’s people, achieve to its fullness our vocation as Pastorelle Sisters. We are in
the heart of Discipleship, we too are missionary disciples, in the mystery of "communion" (...). We
collaborate in the construction of the community being "communion" for "communion".
We can conclude with the words of Aparecida (..): «In the people of God "communion and
mission are profoundly joined together (...): communion is missionary and mission is for
communion". In the particular Churches all members of the people of God, each one according to
his/her specific vocation, are called to holiness in communion and in mission.» (DA163).

We know that many of us are on facebook, be it with a personal profile user or as a page
administrator (fanpage). Thinking of this and considering the urgent need to qualify our presence
on the web, here are the basic difference between these two ways of being present:
The User: this is always a personal profile and is based on the exchange of friendship. The
purpose is to share the life, ideas, opinions ... build friendship network. This happens with both
personal publications as well as with comments that are make in the publications of friends. So you
can customize to whom you give the ability to see what is being published on the wall (all facebook
users, just friends, a friend, a specific group ...). To see the wall of a user you must be friends or be
a facebook user, according to the set configuration. In it you can see not only personal publications
but also those of your friends who have quoted you or made comments.

Fanpage: This is always a public profile, created by a user of facebook, in order to disseminate a
specific activity, thus used by companies that, according to the rules of facebook, should never
keep personal users. The page can be viewed by any person, whether or not facebook user. There
are people who follow by clicking on the "I like", literally they would be his/her "fans" who will
receive all its publications. All publications of the page are always public and on your wall you will
see only those made by the administrator (which may also be more than one).
Having said that, we can better reflect on how we are developing our presence as Pastorelle in this
new Agora!
