MARCH 4, 2012: SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT
Dear Friends in Christ,
I would like to draw your attention to a couple of this week's
upcoming event.
CMA (Catholic Ministries Appeal) – Over the last few
weeks we have quietly started the annual Catholic Ministries
Appeal. Our donations to the CMA fund extensive educational
and charitable programs, which strive to alleviate all manner of
poverties – poverty of truth through education and formation
and the poverty of love through a variety of parish-based &
diocesan-wide programs to conduct the spiritual and corporal
works of mercy. Through our support of the CMA, not only do
these programs benefit, but so too does our parish since a portion of the funds raised returns to St. Rocco. Therefore, I ask
you to be generous in supporting the CMA, so that the mercy of
God becomes ever more present on Long Island.
Free Catholic Literature – In recent weeks you have found
new pamphlets in the church to help us grow in our love of God
and neighbor. Please feel free to take them with you. Fr. Miller,
who authored the Primer on Confession, was one of my professors at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia. It is an
excellent resource for preparing for Confession. The Busy Family’s Guide to Lent and Basic Catholic Prayers are yours to
take and to use. Other literature is on order. I am also interested
in obtaining Italian pamphlets. If anyone has contacts or recommendations, please let me know.
Guests -– This Sunday, at the 10:15 Mass, Father Benedict
offers his Mass of Thanksgiving, his priestly ordination, at the
end of which he will impart his blessing. A blessing from a new
priest (within his first year) offers the possibility of a plenary
indulgence according to the normal requirements, i.e., confession, communion and prayers (Our Father, Hail, Mary, Creed)
for the Holy Father.
Father Benedict, a German, was ordained last September
29th on the Feast of the Archangels. Along with him are three
other Canons, all of whom work in Norway. The four of them
are making a visit to our Canonry in Glen Cove. The others are
Father Alois, the Pastor of St. Paul, my religious community’s
parish in Bergen, Fr. Lukas, the parochial vicar, university- and
parish-school chaplain, and Fr. Albert, who is the VicarGeneral and rectory of the Cathedral in Trondheim. I worked
for Bergen for two years, Fr. Bruno for one. St. Paul’s is a
lively, international parish with Mass offered in up to seven
languages each week! It is a great joy that our confreres from
Norway can visit us here in Glen Cove. You will have a chance
to meet them at the Parish First Sunday Breakfast following the
10:15 a.m. Mass. They all speak English as well as German and
Norwegian (and Polish in the case of Fr. Albert).
God bless you,
Father Elias
Cari amici in Cristo,
CMA (Appello per i Ministeri Cattholici) - Nelle ultime
settimane abbiamo iniziato tranquillamente l'appello annuale
presente a Long Island.
Gratis letteratura cattolica - Nelle ultime settimane avete
Fr. Miller, autore del Primer on
Confession, era uno dei miei professori a St. Charles Borromeo
Seminario di Philadelphia. Si tratta di una risorsa eccellente per
la preparazione alla Confessione. The Busy Family’s Guide to
usare. Altra letteratura sta in ordine. Sono anche interessato ad
ottenere
opuscoli italiani.
Messe celebrate fino a sette lingue ogni settimana! La nostra
comunità
ha
iniziato
a
Bergen
nel
2003.
Dio Vi Benedica,
Padre Elias
