Bossi and Marco Enrico Bossi. Mario Duella, who completed his training at the
Conservatorio di Milano, has recorded numerous albums and CDs and has performed

America.

Journalist Gigi Padovani will present his book
Slow Food International. A New Culture for
Dining and Living (Rizzoli, 2006), which tells the
history of the movement through the eyes of Slow
Food’s charismatic leader Carlo Petrini. Books
about food from literary, sociological, and historical
perspectives will be on display as well. Slow Food
Revolution invites us to reconsider our relationship to
food and restore dignity and pleasure to the table.

Prof. Lurà was born in Mendrisio, Switzerland, and received his Ph.D. from the University of
Zurich. An expert in the area of dialects of the Italian speaking part of Switzerland, he is
currently director of the Centro di dialettologia e di etnografia del Canton Ticino (Centre of
Dialectology and Ethnography of the Canton of Ticino), Switzerland.

JAZZ CONCERT BY DUO DANIELE CAVALLANTI AND JIM BAKER
Daniele Cavallanti, saxophonist and member of the Italian Instabile Orchestra, has a long
history as a successful artist. He has worked with the most representative musicians of the
Italian and international jazz-scene. Jim Baker boasts a number of collaborations with
internationally renowned musicians. He is a well-known pianist and keyboardist on the local
Chicago music scene, where he has built his career over the past two decades. There will be
a $5 donation.

SARTORI ‘EXPLORING THE
CARNIVAL IN VENICE
AND THE USE OF MASKS’
Addressing this year’s Italian Language Week
theme, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura will
present a series of demonstrations that explore
the Venetian Carnival and its importance in the
history of theater and the origins of
Italian mask work. Donato Sartori, renowned

this
workshop, which delves into the meaning
and rich tradition of this ancient festival. Paola Piizzi, Paola Coletto and Sean
Kaplan will also participate. An exclusive demonstration of how masks were
actually used will be presented and a sampling of dishes associated with the Venetian Carnival will be served. The event is free, but please call the box office to reserve your place.

SCREENING OF RICETTE D’AMORE

In collaboration with Italidea, the Istituto Italiano di
Cultura will present the screening of
Ricette d’amore by German Director Sandra
Nettelbeck. This film tells the story of Martha, an
extraordinary chef, who has no time in her life for
anything else but food. When Martha finds herself the
caretaker of her young orphaned niece Lina, her life
soon turns upside down. When a new boisterous
Italian chef is hired at the restaurant, sparks begin to
fly. In Italian with Italian subtitles. (109 min.)

EXPLORING ITALIAN CUISINE AND WINE
Following the screening of the film, Italian food
specialist Maria Battaglia will explore Italy’s rich
culinary traditions. Samples of regional dishes will
be served. International wine photojournalist Anna
Pakula will share her expertise on the different wine
producing regions throughout Italy. She will introduce
several types of Italian wine and offer a wine tasting.

CONVERSATION WITH BEPPE SEVERGNINI
Famed journalist and internationally best selling author
Beppe Severgnini will meet with the Chicago public as part
of his book tour throughout America promoting his latest
publication La Bella Figura: a Field Guide to the
Italian Mind (Broadway Books Doubleday, 2006),
recently translated from the Italian version (Rizzoli, 2005).
The book, already on the New York Times Best Seller List,
takes the reader on a trip through the Bel Paese, in the
