INTRODUCTION
This Workshop will present the state of the art of the pathogenesis and
management of Graves’ Orbitopathy with the aim of an open discussion
among participants on pathophysiology and the various innovative
diagnostic procedures. The point of view of all the specialists involved in
the management of the disease will be presented. For the first time we will
offer the participants a live surgery session on orbital decompression, and
a direct interaction with the surgeons will be possible during the procedure.
The reproducibility of the ophthalmological diagnostic tests and the surgical
options for eye muscle dysfunction will be the focus of the ophthalmological
session. The different hypotheses of disease pathogenesis will be
presented during the endocrine session and both standardized therapies
and novel immunotherapy modalities will be the focus of the subsequent
discussion. Most faculty members, including the organizers, are actively
involved in Graves’ Orbitopathy Centers of the European Group on Graves’
Orbitopathy, working group of the European Thyroid Association.
