WORKING WONDERS WITH FAMILIES IN
OUR NEIGHBOURHOODS…
The Smith family came for counselling
to deal with the sudden death of their
parent. The children’s grief was
complicated by the fact that they were
now residing with their other parent,
with whom they had not spent a great
deal of time, due to long work hours to
provide for the family. As this grief
stricken family learned about each other, how to relate, how to
trust, how to love and build a new definition of “family”, they
began to open up to their counsellor and share what their life
was like before their parent’s tragic death. One child in the family
shared that a trusted adult in their life used to be very abusive to
them – physically assaulting them, locking them in closets, and
making them hurt each other – to name just a few of the milder
incidents. That disclosure to the family therapist led to the arrest
of that individual and it also resulted in those children no longer
feeling afraid of any future victimization. Closer family intimacy,
safety, and a brighter future resulted for the Smith Family. Last
year, ShareLife-supported Family Service agencies provided
family counselling to over 5,100 people in the Greater Toronto Area.

DEL NOSTRO QUARTIERE…
La famiglia Smith si è rivolta ad un servizio di consulenza
psicologica per cercare di far fronte all’improvvisa perdita del
loro genitore. L’angoscia dei bambini di questa famiglia era
ancora più aggravata per il fatto che ora risedevano con l’altro
genitore, il quale nel passato aveva trascorso pochissimo tempo
assieme a loro, siccome spesso lavorava lunghe ore per
provvedere alla famiglia. Mentre che i membri di questa famiglia
imparavano a conoscersi meglio, a relazionarsi, a fidarsi, ad
amarsi ed ad affermare una nuova definizione di “famiglia”,
hanno iniziato anche a confidarsi nel loro consulente psicologico
e a raccontargli della loro vita prima della tragica scomparsa del
loro genitore. Uno dei bambini ha raccontato degli abusi che
avevano subito da parte di un adulto di fiducia nella loro vita - il
quale li aveva aggrediti fisicamente, li rinchiudeva con la chiave
nell’armadio e li costringeva a colpirsi l’un l’altro - per citarne
soltanto alcuni dei più lievi episodi. Dopo che il bambino
ha svelato tutto ciò al terapista di famiglia, l’individuo è stato
arrestato e quindi ora i bambini non temono più il rischio
di future vittimizzazioni. Per la famiglia Smith si è verificato un
più stretto legame familiare, un senso di sicurezza e un futuro
migliore. L’anno scorso, le agenzie di Servizi Familiari sostenuti
da ShareLife hanno fornito consulenza psicologica familiare ad
oltre 5.100 persone nella grande area di Toronto.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY SUMMER BREAK
During the summer our catechists take a well deserved rest.
Our last Children’s Liturgy will take place on Sunday
June 28th. We will let you know when they will start up
again.
In the meantime, thank you to our faithful
catechists and any who may have assisted them. This is
another of those ministries that seem so simple and yet are
so important to our community of faith.
FATHER’S DAY NOVENA
NOVENA PER LA FESTA DEI PAPA
Father’s Day Novena Cards are now
available. We have marked off nine
Masses from June 21 to 28, 2015 which
we will offer for fathers, living and
deceased. If you would like to include
your father in this intention you may use
the card to give to your living father or to
take to the cemetery where your
deceased father is resting. The novena
cards and donation envelopes are available at the entrance to
the church.

che potete offrire al marito o al figlio/papà come un augurio e

la busta apposita per il nome e l’offerta.
RITUAL: GOOD FRIDAY IN TORONTO’S
ITALIAN IMMIGRANT COMMUNITY 1969-2015
This exhibition runs from June 4-28 at Ryerson Artspace,
1214 Queen Street. The hours are Thurs – Fri 1-6 pm and
Sat – Sun 12-5 pm.
The publicity reads: “Ritual: Good Friday in Toronto’s Italian
Immigrant Community 1969-2015 is a body of photographs
and texts as well as an accompanying exhibition that
documents the Good Friday Procession – an elaborate event
that takes place annually in the streets of the historic Italian
Community in Toronto. Vincenzo Pietropaolo has been
photographing this event almost every year since 1969 and,
in the process, the annual pilgrimage with his camera has
become his own personal ritual as a documentary
photoartist.”

buona opportunità di fare una passeggiata dopo la Messa. Si

brioche… e chissà, forse un piatto di pasta o un gelato.
Ci ricordano che una volta, anni fa, era proibito di camminare e
godere “Little Italy”. Godiamo i tempi cambiati e la nostra libertà acquistata dai nostri genitori e nonni.

Divine Retreat Centre was inaugurated in the Archdiocese of
Toronto on November 29, 2014. It is a branch of Potta-Divine
Ministry. The pioneer of Potta-Divine Ministry, Fr Mathew
Naickomparambil VC will be leading the first Divine Bible
Convention on July 3rd, 4th and 5th (Friday, Saturday and
Sunday) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Three days Bible
