Overview
Overview
The Italian National Centre for Rare Diseases of the Italian
National Institute of Health has organised the Italian national
congress "Narrative medicine and rare diseases" annually
since 2009.
Rare diseases, defined by their low prevalence, can be acute,
severe, chronic and disabling conditions. They may be difficult
to diagnose and with few specific therapeutic treatments.
Narrative medicine aims to build a bridge between the clinical
knowledge of health care practitioners and the patient’s
subjective experience.
This year, the Italian National Centre for Rare Diseases of the
Italian National Institute of Health is organising the First
International Congress "Narrative medicine and rare
diseases".
The Congress aims (i) to promote narrative medicine applied
to rare diseases among health practitioners and patients, (ii)
to stimulate new theoretical approaches and practical
applications, at international level.
Dal 2009, il Centro Nazionale Malattie Rare - Istituto Superiore
di Sanità organizza ogni anno il Convegno Nazionale “Medicina
narrativa e malattie rare”.
Le malattie rare sono patologie con bassa prevalenza nella
popolazione, per lo più gravi, croniche, invalidanti, difficili da
diagnosticare, spesso con scarse opzioni terapeutiche
specifiche risolutive. La medicina narrativa mira a costruire un
ponte tra le conoscenze cliniche dei medici (e più in generale
degli operatori socio-sanitari) e l’esperienza soggettiva della
malattia vissuta dai pazienti.
Quest’anno, il Centro Nazionale Malattie Rare - Istituto
Superiore di Sanità organizza il Primo Convegno Internazionale
“Medicina narrativa e malattie rare”.
Il Convegno ha l’obiettivo di (i) promuovere, tra gli operatori
socio-sanitari e i pazienti, la conoscenza della medicina
narrativa in relazione alle malattie rare, (ii) stimolare nuovi
approcci teorici e applicazioni pratiche, a livello
internazionale.

Guidelines for abstracts
Linee guida per abstract
• Abstracts should be based on any of the following topic
areas about narrative medicine: Research, Education,
Quality of Life, Ethics, Cinema and Literature.
• They should clearly indicate the objectives of the research
or practical experiences, methods and results, and offer a
brief discussion and conclusion.
• All abstracts should be submitted and presented in English.
• Abstracts should be longer than 400 words, except for the
title and the full name and surname of authors with their
affiliation.
• Abbreviations for terms should be defined the first time
they appear in your text. Example: ISS (Istituto Superiore di
Sanità), before being used as an abbreviation only. Please,
do not define or use abbreviations in the title.
• Tables, charts or bibliography should not be included in
abstracts (if they are included will be deleted).
• Abstracts should only be submitted on the “Abstract
submission form” attached and sent via e-mail to the
Scientific
Secretariat
at
[email protected],
indicating the corresponding author (name, surname,
telephone and e-mail).
Accepted contributions will be published in the Congress
proceedings: abstracts for poster presentations and full papers
for oral presentations.
• Gli abstract dovranno riguardare una delle seguenti aree
tematiche in medicina narrativa: Ricerca, Formazione,
Qualità di Vita, Etica, Cinema e Letteratura.
• È necessario indicare chiaramente gli obiettivi della ricerca
svolta o dell’esperienza pratica, metodi, risultati, breve
discussione e conclusioni.
• Gli abstract dovranno essere scritti e presentati in inglese.
• Ogni contributo non dovrà superare le 400 parole di testo,
esclusi il titolo e gli autori (nome e cognome per esteso),
con le relative affiliazioni.
• Le abbreviazioni dovranno essere esplicitate la prima volta
che compaiono nel testo. Esempio: ISS (Istituto Superiore di
Sanità). Non utilizzare e/o esplicitare le abbreviazioni nel
titolo.
• Si raccomanda di non inserire tabelle, figure o riferimenti
bibliografici nel testo, che saranno in ogni caso eliminati.
• Gli abstract dovranno essere inviati utilizzando l’ “Abstract
submission form” allegato, alla Segreteria Scientifica,
all’indirizzo [email protected], indicando il
corresponding author (nome, cognome, telefono ed email).
I contributi accettati saranno pubblicati negli atti del
Convegno: gli abstract per le presentazioni poster e i full paper
per le presentazioni orali.

1. Gli autori dovranno inviare l’abstract in inglese
all’indirizzo [email protected], entro il 4 maggio
2012 indicando il cognome del corresponding author e il
titolo del poster.
2. Il Comitato Scientifico del Convegno selezionerà gli
abstract per le presentazioni orali e i poster. Se l’abstract
sarà selezionato (per presentazioni orali o poster), il
correstonding author dovrà partecipare al Congresso.
3. Sarà inviata notifica di accettazione dell’abstract per la
sessione orale o poster sarà inviata ai corresponding
author per e-mail, intorno al 25 maggio 2012. I
corresponding author dovranno confermare la propria
partecipazione immediatamente.
4. I corresponding author dei contributi selezionati per
presentazioni orali dovranno inviare il full paper (4-6
pagine) per la pubblicazione, entro il 4 luglio 2012. Le
istruzioni per gli autori saranno inviate insieme alla
notifica di accettazione (25 maggio 2012).
1. Authors should submit their abstract in English to
[email protected] by the 4 May 2012 indicating
the surname of corresponding author and the title of the
abstract.
2. The Scientific Committee will select submitted abstracts
for oral and poster presentations. If the abstract is
selected
for
presentation
at
the
Congress,
the
corresponding author must participate to the Congress.
3. Notification of acceptance will be sent to corresponding
authors by e-mail by approximately 25 May 2012. They
will be required to submit an oral presenter agreement in
order to confirm their intention to give an oral or poster
presentation at the Congress.
4. Corresponding authors of abstracts for oral presentation
are required to submit a full paper (4-6 pages), no later
than 4 July 2012. Instruction for authors will be sent with
notification of acceptance (25 May 2012).
