Of Organic Agriculture Districts
The Bio District is an area, naturally devoted
to organic agriculture, where:
•  FARMERS are in a perfect way integrated in
the social context,
In Italy, A.I.A.B. –
Italian Association
for Organic
Agriculture
(www.aiab.it) has a
key role in this
topic. It has
promoted the
creation of
•  “Cilento Bio-District”, in
the Campania region
(www. biodistretto.it)
•  “Grecanico Bio-District”,
in Calabria region.
•  “Via Amerina-District”,
in Lazio region.
•  CONSUMERS are available to buy
“organic” (addressing directly to the
producers, so avoiding trade speculations),
•  PUBLIC ADMINISTRATIONS support also the
Green Public Procurement, improving the
development of organic public canteens in the
schools, the hospitals, etc…
Thanks to the collaboration with
Biocert Association
(www.biocert.it) and Ecologica
Association
(www.Ecologica.mobi), the
A.I.A.B. association aims now to
create a European network of
Bio-Districts, putting its own
know-how at disposal of all
Territorial Bodies, Associations,
etc. interested in starting a “real
sustainable development” route.
Biocert is specialized in
improving innovative models for
training of human resources in
rural areas.
Ecologica is specialised in eLearning programmes for organic
agriculture guidance and training.

within the “Cilento and Vallo di Diano”
National Park, an area extended on 3.196
square kilometres, with 3 cultural interest
places, such as Paestum, Elea-Velia,
Padula
The organic district, coordinated by AIAB - Italian Organic Agriculture
Association, has made concrete activities, carried out for years by private and
public Institutions, rural and touristic operators.
It has, as a matter of fact, created an effective permanent lab with high cultural
profile initiatives, aiming at ethical and social-oriented development of Cilento
territory, based on the organic Agriculture model.

All that happens
in Cilento area, place devoted to
“Mediterranean Diet”. This kind of diet has been
Bio-Beaches
codified and enriched in a scientific way by the
American scientist Ancel Keys, following the Cilento food model.
He settled in Pioppi in order to study relations between food, life style, and longevity.
The link with organic agriculture makes more effective and complete the Mediterranean Diet. As
a matter of fact, food quality is fundamental to avoid health problems.
The main aim of the Network is that of creating an effective permanent lab with high
cultural profile, aiming at ethical, social and environmental oriented development of
territories, based on organic farming model.
The ICT tools can help to reach these goals.
In the last two years, thanks to the usage of new technologies, more than
400 organic farmers of the italian Bio districts have been able to upgrade
their knowledge through distance learning courses and web conferences.
This has allowed them to improve the quality of the organic productions
and discover new market channels (short food chain).
Modern synchronous and asynchronous
tools are being used, based on Web 2.0
technology and 3D Virtual Platform using,
for example, OpenSim, an open source
application used to create and manage
Virtual World.
All these tools will give help to simulate the reality without reality risks, testing all possible
solutions of territory planning marketing choices, productive conversion etc. They also will be
able to develop new ICT skills and competences. So, they are an effective help for technicians
and farmers and also for local public administrators
devoted to sustainable choices.
A.I.A.B. association, in partnership with Biocert and Ecologica associations, wishes (thanks to
their innovative ICT tools) to put at disposal of everybody interested their own specialized knowhow. So, it will be possible to realize all over the Europe new Bio-Districts, with the further aim to
collect them in the “European Network of Organic Agriculture Districts – E.N.O.A.D.”.

Conclusion
The ICT tools are an effective help for technicians and farmers and also for local
administrators devoted to sustainable choices. A.I.A.B. association, in partnership
with Biocert and Ecologica associations, wishes (thanks to their innovative ICT tools)
to put at disposal of everybody interested their own specialized know-how. So, it will
be possible to realize all over the Europe new Bio-Districts, with the further aim to
collect them in the “European Network of Organic Agriculture Districts – E.N.O.A.D.”.
