Il 3 luglio 2005, lo Stadio Comunale di Lignano Sabbiadoro
accoglierà le rappresentative dei quarantotto Paesi partecipanti
per la cerimonia di apertura dell’VIII EYOF Lignano2005. Dopo la
sfilata degli atleti, l’arrivo della torcia, l’accensione del braciere
con il fuoco proveniente da Olimpia e il giuramento dell’atleta, i
giochi estivi, per la prima volta ospitati in Italia, verranno ufficialmente dichiarati aperti dal presidente del C.O.E.
Le 3 juillet 2005, au Stade municipal de Lignano
Sabbiadoro, se déroulera, à la présence des représentants des
quarante-huit pays participants, la cérémonie d’ouverture du
VIIIème FOJE Lignano 2005. Après le défilé des athlètes, l’arrivée
de la flamme, l’allumage de la vasque avec le feu venant
d’Olympie et le serment de l’athlète, les jeux d’été, qui se tiendront
pour la première fois en Italie, seront officiellement ouverts par le
président des C.O.E.
On 3rd July 2005, the Stadium of Lignano Sabbiadoro will
welcome the representatives of the forty-eight participating nations
for the opening ceremony of the 8th EYOF Lignano 2005. After the
athletes’ procession, the arrival of the torch, the lighting of the cauldron with the flame brought from Olympia and when the athletes
have taken their oath, the summer games, held for the first time in
Italy, will officially be declared open by the president of the EOC.

Fu nel 1991 che la nostra Associazione,
su iniziativa dell’allora presidente europeo
Jacques Rogge e del sottoscritto, decise di
dare vita ad una grande manifestazione
polisportiva rivolta ai giovani del nostro
continente – le Giornate Olimpiche della
Gioventù Europea.
I COE intendevano cosi riprendere un’idea
cara al Barone Pierre de Coubertin,
rinnovatore dei Giochi Olimpici: promuovere
attraverso lo sport la formazione e lo
sviluppo armonico dell’individuo - e dei
giovani in particolare - per favorire l'avvento
di una società pacifica, impegnata a difendere
la dignità umana.
Nata con il nome di “Giornate” - poi
trasformatasi in “Festival” - la manifestazione
comprende un’edizione estiva ed un’edizione
invernale. Il Comitato Olimpico Italiano ha
avuto l’onore di organizzare la prima edizione
invernale – Aosta 1993 svoltasi con grande
successo.
Nel corso degli anni la nostra manifestazione
è cresciuta fino a diventare un appuntamento
irrinunciabile che offre ai giovani sportivi
europei la possibilità di partecipare a gare di
buon livello assaporando in anteprima il
gusto dell’esperienza straordinaria dei Giochi
Olimpici, che soltanto un piccolo numero
potrà vivere un giorno.
Nel 2005 il Festival ritornerà in Italia e
Lignano Sabbiadoro sta già lavorando con
impegno per offrire agli sportivi dei 48
Comitati Olimpici d’Europa la possibilità di
vivere un momento unico della loro vita,
durante il quale potranno incontrarsi,
imparare a conoscersi tra tradizioni e culture
diverse, accomunati dalla loro grande
passione per lo sport.
I COE tutti, ed io per primo, siamo convinti
che gli organizzatori di Lignano Sabbiadoro,
con l’ausilio del C.O.N.I., sapranno
aggiungere alle attrattive naturali e alla
cordialità della sua gente, strutture e siti di
competizione di alta qualità per fare del 8°
Festival Olimpico della Gioventù Europea un
grande successo.

En 1991 notre Association, à l’initiative
du président européen de l’époque Jacques
Rogge et mienne, décida de lancer une
grande manifestation polysportive pour les
jeunes de notre continent, les Journées
Olympiques de la Jeunesse Européenne.
Les C.O.E. voulaient de la sorte reprendre
une idée à laquelle tenait le Baron Pierre de
Coubertin, rénovateur des Jeux Olympiques:
promouvoir, par le moyen du sport, la
formation et l’épanouissement harmonieux
des individus, et des jeunes en particulier,
afin de favoriser l’édification d’une société
paisible, engagée dans la défense de la
dignité humaine.
La manifestation, née avec le nom de
“Journées”et à présent “Festival”, se
compose d’une édition d’été et d’une édition
d’hiver. Le Comité Olympique italien a eu
l’honneur d’organiser la première édition
d’hiver Aoste 1993 qui a été cournonnée par
un grand succès.
Au fil des ans notre manifestation a grandi et
est devenue un encontournable rendez-vous
qui offre aux jeunes sportifs européens
l’opportunité de participer à des compétitions
de bon niveau en savourant à l’avance
l’expérience extraordinaire des Jeux
Olympiques qu’un jour seulement un nombre
restreint d’entre eux pourront vivre.
En 2005 le Festival se tiendra de
nouveau en Italie et Lignano Sabbiadoro est
déjà en train d’oeuvrer pour offrir aux
sportifs des 48 Comités Olympiques d’Europe
la possibilité de vivre une expérience unique,
au cours de laquelle ils pourront se
rencontrer, apprendre à se connaître avec
leur bagage de traditions et de cultures
différentes, en partageant leur grande
passion pour le sport.
Tous les C.O.E. et moi particulièrement, nous
sommes convaincus que les organisateurs de
Lignano Sabbiadoro avec la collaboration du
C.O.N.I. sauront ajouter aux beautés
naturelles du site et à l’amabilité de sa
population des équipements sportifs et des
lieux de compétition de haut niveau pour que
le 8ème Festival Olympique de la Jeunesse
Européenne soit un grand succès.

The Italian Olympic Committee had the
honour of organising the first winter edition
in Aosta in 1993, and it was a huge success.
Over the years it has developed into an
important meeting that offers young
sportsmen and women a chance to compete
in high level events, and to have a foretaste
of the wonderful experience of the Olympic
Games, that only a small number will be able
to experience one day.
In 2005 the Festival will return to Italy and
work is already under way in Lignano
Sabbiadoro, making preparations to offer the
athletes of the 48 European Olympic
Committees the possibility of experiencing a
unique moment in their lives, during which
they will meet one another, and become
acquainted with each other’s traditions and
cultures, drawn together by their great
passion for sport.
All the EOCs, and myself first of all, are
convinced that the organisers at Lignano
Sabbiadoro, with the help of the C.O.N.I. (the
Italian National Olympic Committee) in
addition to the natural attractions and the
cordiality of their people, will be able to add
high quality infrastructures and competition
grounds to guarantee the success of the 8th
European Youth Olympic Festival.

Mezzo d’eccellenza per migliorare la qualità della vita,
lo sport è per i giovani un essenziale strumento formativo.
Consapevole di ciò il Friuli Venezia Giulia promuove le attività
sportive supportando i programmi che consentono
l’avvicinamento alle diverse discipline sin dalla primissima
età. A tale proposito la Regione sarà al fianco del C.O.N.I.,
delle Federazioni, degli Enti di promozione sportiva e delle
società sportive per favorire la diffusione delle attività
sportive motorie e di base a tutti i livelli.
E’ un impegno che costituisce parte integrante del
programma dell’attuale Governo regionale e che si pone alla
base delle scelte che verranno fatte in questo settore nei
prossimi anni. Sin dalle prime battute, la Regione darà quindi
il pieno supporto all’organizzazione dell’8° EYOF che avrà
luogo a Lignano nel 2005.
E’ una manifestazione da considerare con grande interesse
per il suo potenziale e, soprattutto, per il valore del confronto
tra i partecipanti in un mix di esperienze umane e sportive.
Accoglieremo con gioia i giovani che parteciperanno a questo
Festival Olimpico Giovanile Europeo di Lignano, nella
convinzione che quest’iniziativa possa contribuire
concretamente al loro sviluppo fisico e morale, ma anche

Moyen d’excellence pour améliorer la qualité de la vie,
le sport est un outil de formation essentiel pour les jeunes.
Dans cet esprit, le Frioul-Vénétie Julienne encourage l’activité
sportive en soutenant des progrmmes qui permettent aux
jeunes de s’approcher aux différentes disciplines. La Région
sera aux côtés du CONI, des Fédérations, des organismes de
promotion du sport et des clubs pour favoriser la diffusion

Olympique de la Jeunesse Européenne est un
motif de satisfaction pour l’Italie et pour son
mouvement sportif.
Le déroulement de cette manifestation, à
l’intention des jeunes de toute l’Europe, a
pour but la promotion de l’amitié et de la
fraternité, principes fondamentaux
de l’esprit sportif.
Elle se place entre les manifestions voulues
par l’Union européenne en 2004 pour donner
un nouvel élan à l’éducation par le moyen du
sport et le rendez-vous italien et mondial des
Jeux Olympiques de Turin 2006.
La liaison idéale entre les valeurs éducatives
traditionnelles du sport et l’expression la plus
élevée de la compétitivité, que sont les Jeux
Olympiques, renforcent la signification de cet
événement qui pas par hasard se tient sur un
territoire italien à vocation fortement
européiste. Je suis certain que le succès
courronnera l’engagement des organisateurs
et confirmera l’ouverture européenne et
l’hospitalité italienne.

It was in 1991 that our Association,
following the initiative of president of the
European Olympic Committee at that time,
Jacques Rogge and myself, decided to set up
a grand multisport event for young people on
our continent – the European Youth Olympic
Days.
Thus the EOCs intended to take up an idea
that was dear to Baron Pierre de Coubertin,
who renewed the Olympic Games: to
promote through sport the training and
harmonious development of the individual –
and particularly the young – to promote the
advent of a peaceful society, committed to
protecting human dignity.
Originally with the name “Days” – which
then became “Festival” – this event

L’ideale collegamento tra i tradizionali valori
educativi dello sport e l’espressione massima
della competitività, quali sono i Giochi

manifestazione che non a caso ha luogo
in un territorio italiano a forte vocazione
europeista.
Sono certo del successo che premierà
l’impegno degli organizzatori e confermerà
l’apertura europea e l’ospitalità dell’Italia.

Ospitare l’8a edizione del Festival
Olimpico della Gioventù Europea è motivo
di soddisfazione per l’Italia e per il suo
movimento sportivo.
La celebrazione di questa Manifestazione,
riservata ai giovani provenienti da tutta
Europa, ha lo scopo di promuovere l’amicizia
e la fratellanza che sono principi di base dello
spirito sportivo.
Essa si inserisce tra le manifestazioni volute
dall’Unione Europea nel 2004 per rivalutare
engagement qui constitue une partie intégrante du
programme du gouvernement régional actuel et qui est à la
base des choix qui seront effectués dans les prochaines
années dans ce secteur. C’est ainsi que la Région dès le début
offrira tout son soutien à l’organisation du 8ème FOJE qui se
tiendra à Lignano en 2005.
Ce rendez-vous est important pour différentes raisons,
comme la comparaison avec le FOJE de Paris et ses chiffres
record. La présence de trois mille jeunes issus de près de 50
pays engagés dans une kermesse exceptionnelle,
représentent pour Lignano un objectif à atteindre et, si
possible, à améliorer. D’autres aspects majeurs sont la valeur
de la manifestation, son potentiel essor et, en particulier, le
niveau de confrontation des participants, dans un mélange
d’expériences humaines et sportives.

it is a great satisfaction to be hosting the 8th
edition of the European Youth Olympic
Festival.
The celebration of this event, reserved for
young people from all over Europe, has the
aim of promoting friendship and
fraternity, the principles that are the basis
of the sporting spirit.
It is among the events promoted by the
European Union for 2004, to enhance
education through sport and through the
commitment of Italy and the World to the
Turin Olympic Games in 2006.
There is an ideal link between
the traditional educational values of sport
and the maximum expression of competitive
sport, the Olympic Games. These values
reinforce the significance of this event.
It is no coincidence that it will be taking
place in an Italian territory with strong
European ties.
I am certain of the success that will reward
the organisers’ hard work, confirming
European openness and Italian hospitality.

As an excellent means of improving the quality of life,
sport is an essential instrument for training young people.
With this in mind, the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia promotes
sports activities, supporting the programmes that allow
children to become acquainted with the various sports
disciplines from a very early age.
For this reason the Region will be with the C.O.N.I., the
Federations, the Authorities which promote sport, and the
sports clubs, to spread the dissemination of sports activities
at all levels. This commitment is an essential part of the
present Regional Government’s programme and underlies the
decisions that will be made in this sector in the next years.
Right from the start, the Regional Government will give full
support to the organisation of the 8th EYOF, to be held in
Lignano in 2005.
This is an event to be considered with great interest for its
potential, and above all for the value of the meeting together
of participants in a combination of human and sports
experiences.

part in the European Youth Olympic Festival in Lignano, and

Friuli Venezia Giulia, la regione
al centro della nuova Europa
Il Friuli Venezia Giulia, la più NordOrientale delle regioni italiane, si trova a
contatto a Nord con il Land austriaco della
Carinzia e ad est con la Repubblica di
Slovenia. Ad Ovest confina con la regione
italiana del Veneto ed a Sud é lambita dal
mare Adriatico.
La regione deve alla sua collocazione
geografica ed alla sua storia passata una
significativa
e
confermata
vocazione
transfrontaliera e negli ultimi anni, anche in
considerazione del progressivo processo di
allargamento dell'Unione europea e della
riacquisita centralità economica, é divenuto
uno strategico snodo ed un punto di contatto
(sociale, culturale e produttivo) tra la
Comunità europea e le emergenti Nazioni del
Centro-Est Europa. Area importante per le
correnti di traffico commerciali tra Ovest ed
Est e tra Sud (il bacino mediterraneo) e
Nord, il Friuli Venezia Giulia si trova oggi al
centro di un moderno sistema dei trasporti ed
é sede di numerosi centri ed istituzioni a
carattere internazionale. Il Friuli Venezia Giulia
può oggi infatti contare nel campo dei
trasporti e della viabilità, su un razionale
sistema di autostrade, strade a scorrimento
veloce, ferrovie, collegamenti aeroportuali,
porti che di fatto la rendono raggiungibile ed
attraversabile senza problemi. La Regione
Friuli Venezia Giulia é anche dotata di un
moderno aeroporto (Trieste/Ronchi dei
Legionari), recentemente rinnovato. Come
ricordato, la storia e l'ubicazione geografica
hanno inciso in profondità il tessuto sociale,
culturale ed economico del Friuli Venezia
Giulia, che "da sempre" ha avuto l'esigenza
ma anche la volontà di relazionarsi con le
vicine realtà d'oltreconfine, anche in
considerazione della presenza nel suo
territorio di una minoranza di lingua slovena
ed all'esistenza di piccole comunità di lingua
tedesca.
Il Friuli Venezia Giulia, soprattutto negli ultimi
anni ha stretto numerose relazioni in
particolare con i paesi del Centro ed Est
Europa (tra gli altri, Germania, Austria,
Slovenia, Croazia, Polonia, Ungheria,
Ucraina, Russia). Ha avviato una continua
"rete" di rapporti sin dagli anni Settanta,
quando si fece promotore della costituzione
della Comunità di lavoro dell'Alpe Adria, che
oggi conta tra i suoi membri quindici Regioni
dell'Italia, Svizzera, Germania, Austria,
Ungheria, nonché le Repubbliche di Slovenia
e Croazia. Fu il "modello" Alpe Adria - venne
pubblicamente testimoniato - che nel 1989
diede impulso alla creazione di quella Central
European Initiative (CEI) che ora unisce sedici
Paesi del Centro - Est Europa e dell'area
balcanica e che vede a Trieste la sede del suo
Segretariato esecutivo, "motore" delle attività
di quest'organismo internazionale.
E sempre al Friuli Venezia Giulia va il merito
(già nel 1984) di aver coinvolto il Land
austriaco della Carinzia e la Repubblica di
Slovenia (a quell'epoca facente parte della
Repubblica Federale di Jugoslavia, dal 1991
Stato indipendente) nella proposta della
candidatura comune, significativamente

Friuli Venezia Giulia, the region at
the centre of a New Europe
The region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the
most northeasterly region of Italy, boarders with
the Austrian Federal Province of Carinthia to the
North and the Republic of Slovenia to the East. To
the West it has the Italian region of the Veneto
and to the South it is washed by the seas of the
Adriatic.
The region owes its significant tradition in crossboarder commuting to its geographic collocation
and its past. In recent years, also in consideration
of the progressive expansion of the EU and the
reacquisition of its central economic role, it has
become a strategic crossroads and point of contact (social, cultural an productive) between the
European Union and emergent nations of central
and eastern Europe.
A crossroads for commercial traffic between
West and East and between the South (the
Mediterranean basin) and the North, FriuliVenezia Giulia is today at the centre of a modern
transport system and has numerous centres and
institutions of an international nature. Friuli
Venezia Giulia can indeed today count on a ratio-
nal system of motorways and highways, railway,
airport links and ports that de facto make it
reachable and crossable without problems.
The region of Friuli Venezia Giulia also
has a modern, recently refurbished, airport
(Trieste/Ronchi dei Legionari).
As mentioned, its past and its geographical position have had a profound effect on the social, cultural and economic life of Friuli Venezia Giulia,
that has “always” had a need as well as the desire to relate itself to its nearby neighbours, also in
consideration of the fact that it has a minority
Slovenian speaking community and small
pockets of German speaking communities.
Friuli Venezia Giulia has above all in recent years
built ties with the countries of central and eastern
Europe (among them Germany, Austria,
Slovenia, Croatia, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine,
Russia). It initiated a continual “network” of relations as of the 70s, when it was a promoter of the

regions in the area around the eastern Alps), that

place un réseau important de
rapports lorsqu’elle lança
la
constitution
de
la
Communauté de travail des
Alpes Adriatiques, qui compte, parmi ses membres,
quinze régions italiennes,
la
Suisse,
l’Allemagne,
l’Autriche, la Hongrie ainsi
que les Républiques de
Slovénie et de Croatie.
Ce fut le “modèle” Alpes
Adriatiques qui donna essor
en 1989 à la création de la
“Central European Initiative”
(CEI) qui réunit actuellement
seize pays de l’Europe centrale et orientale et des
Balkans et dont le secrétariat

It has hosted and continues to host major sports events such as, just to mention the most
recent, the Italian Under 18 Football Championships, the International Athletics Meeting,
Beach-Volley contests, the traditional Lignano Basket competition, the Therapeutic
Communities’ Italian Championships, the Italian Championships for Disabled Athletes, one
leg of the Giro d’Italia cycling competition, regattas, powerboat races, golf, etc.

d’Athlétisme International, les compétitions

voile, des compétions motonautiques, de

spiaggia e pineta
Il Villaggio degli atleti é situato nel centro Ge.Tur., una struttura di accoglienza per
giovani con pluriennale esperienza nella loro ospitalità, ubicata nel cuore della penisola
lignanese in una zona recintata di folta vegetazione spontanea (pineta) che si affaccia sul mare,
capace di ospitare circa 2.400 persone, dotata di impianti sportivi all'aperto (piscine, campi da
tennis, basket, pallavolo, calcio ecc.), ampie sale per la ristorazione, locali per i servizi generali,
tutto disponibile in un unico luogo dotato di ampi spazi e posto su una spiaggia riservata lunga
circa 1200 metri.
Un duplice servizio di assistenza medica interno operativa 24 ore su 24, con sale infermeria e
stanze per degenza completano i servizi.
Per l'anno 2005 è previsto un ampliamento ulteriore dei posti letto (circa 600) e inoltre,
praticamente in adiacenza al Villaggio, è presente una ricettività aggiuntiva con standard
analogo che offre alloggio per ulteriori 800 persone.

Le Village des Athlètes est situé auprès
du centre Ge.Tur., une structure d’accueil
pour les jeunes ayant une longue expérience
d’hospitalité.
Le Village se trouve dans le coeur de la
péninsule de Lignano dans une zone clôturée
avec une riche végétation naturelle (pinède)
au bord de la mer et peut loger environ 2.400
personnes.
Il dispose d’équipements sportifs en plein air
(piscines, courts de tennis, basket, volley-ball,
football, etc.), de vastes salles pour la
restauration et pour d’autres exigences. La
même structure offre des vastes espaces et
une plage privée longue environ 1200 m.
Deux services médicaux de permanence avec
des salles destinées à l’infirmerie et à
l’hospitalisation complètent les installations.
En 2005 la capacité de logement sera
augmentée (environ 600 lits). Tout près du
Village une autre structure analogue peut
accueillir 800 personnes.

The Athletes' Village between the
beach and the pine grove
The Athletes' Village is in the Ge. Tur. Centre, a centre with years of experience in hosting
young people, set at the heart of the peninsula of Lignano in a zone fenced off pine forest facing
the sea, capable of hosting 2,400 people, with open-air sports facilities (swimming pools, tennis
courts, basketball, volleyball, soccer, etc.), good restaurant facilities and general service areas,
all set in one place with plenty of open space and a private beach1200 meters long. There is an
on the spot medical service available round the clock, with a surgery and rooms for patients. It
is planned to increase the number of beds for 2005 by a further 600 or so and, furthermore, right
next to the Village there is another centre of equal standard that has a further 800 beds.

Bref historique du FOJE Lignano 2005
L’idea di ospitare le miniolimpiadi europee è nata nel gennaio 2000. Il presidente regionale del CONI, Emilio Felluga, subito appoggiato dalla Regione, e’ stato il primo a recepire l’invito del Governo dello sport nazionale e proporre la candidatura di Lignano Sabbiadoro per gli
EYOF del 2005.
Il 1° dicembre 2001 è una giornata trionfale per
l’Italia a Montecarlo. Mario Pescante viene eletto
nuovo presidente dell’EOC e Lignano diventa la
prima località italiana ad ospitare, nel luglio
2005, gli EYOF estivi, le Gare Olimpiche della
Gioventù Europea.

Su richiesta della Federazione Ciclistica Europea,
vengono proposte ed accettate anche le gare per
il ciclismo. La Commissione effettua un sopralluogo ad Azzano Decimo, sede delle gare.
Nell’ambito delle manifestazioni promozionali
dell’Eyof Lignano 2005, il 10 luglio 2004 si è svolto a Trieste l’incontro di calcio tra le nazionali
parlamentari di Italia e Slovenia, promosso dal
Sottosegretario Mario Pescante unitamente al
Sottosegretario Manlio Contento, capitano della
squadra, nella foto assieme al Presidente del
Comitato Organizzatore, l’Assessore regionale
allo Sport Roberto Antonaz (foto 2).

Games, Mr. Bravo, the Paris 2003 Organising Committee President, in
the presence of EOC Vice-President Kozlovsky, handed the Mayor of
Lignano Sabbiadoro, Silvano Delzotto, the official EYOF Flag, that will be
kept at Lignano until the conclusion of the 2005 EYOF there.
Lignano 2005 EYOF in brief
L’idée d’accueillir les miniolympiades est
née en janvier 2000. Le président régional du
CONI, Emilio Felluga, immédiatement soutenu
par la Région, a été le premier à répondre à l’invitation des autorités sportives nationales et à
proposer la candidature de Lignano Sabbiadoro
pour le FOJE de 2005. Le 1er décembre 2001 c’est
une journée triomphale pour l’Italie à Montecarlo.
Mario Pescante est élu nouveau président des
COE et Lignano devient la première ville italienne
à accueillir l’édition d’été du FOJE, les
Compétitions Olympiques de la Jeunesse
Européenne, en juillet 2005.
A Lignano, le 25 octobre 2002, le secrétaire général du CONI, Raffaele Pagnozzi, le maire de
Lignano, Silvano Delzotto, le président des COE
et son secrétaire général, Mario Pescante et
Patrick Hickey respectivement et l’ancien président du Comité FOJE, Luca Ciriani, signent le
contrat (photo 1). Sur demande de la Fédération
Européenne de Cyclisme, les compétitions de
cyclisme ont été proposées et acceptées. La
Commission procède à un état des lieux à Azzano
Decimo, où se tiendront les compétitions.

“A Lignano 2005 il Governo regionale”, ha sottolineato oggi l'assessore Antonaz, “ha offerto il
suo convinto appoggio raccogliendo, certi del
successo, la sfida della settima edizione ospitata
dalla capitale Parigi lo scorso anno. Vi è un’attenzione particolare da parte della Regione, anche
per i più ampi risvolti dell’evento: non solo gare
ed agonismo tra i giovani, ma soprattutto socializzazione, amicizia e comprensione tra ragazzi di
48 Nazioni diverse a confermare un messaggio di
pace, in questi giorni ed in queste ore, quanto
mai necessario". "Come Friuli Venezia Giulia ci
meritiamo la scelta di Lignano per gli EYOF
2005", ha ribadito l'assessore Antonaz, per la storia sportiva della regione ("terra di campioni
mondiali ed olimpici", ha ricordato Felluga, di
gran lunga in testa in Italia nel rapporto tra popolazione e numero di atleti presenti ai Giochi
Olimpici) e per l'elevatissimo "tasso sportivo" del
territorio, sia dilettantistico che amatoriale.
Antonaz e Pescante hanno infine chiesto al
Governo nazionale un ulteriore impegno finanziario dello Stato per l'evento di Lignano. Un
appello che non è parso caduto nel nulla, come
ha successivamente affermato il sottosegretario
Contento: "da sempre vicini a questo evento", in
sede di discussione della Finanziaria 2005 "faremo la nostra parte", ha detto, rivolgendosi anche
ai numerosi parlamentari presenti.

athlètes entre 14 et 18 ans présents l’année prochaine dans le Frioul-Vénétie Julienne participeront aux Jeux Olympiques de Pékin 2008.
Pour témoigner de l’"unanimité " sportive, institutionnelle et politique que Lignano 2005 a su
conquérir en raison des valeurs positives que cet
événement entend exprimer et susciter ainsi que
de son importance, sont présents à cette occasion le sous-secrétaire d’Etat au ministère de l’économie, Manlio Contento, les parlementaires
régionaux Giovanni Collino, Vanni Lenna, Danilo

région, M. Antonaz, a assuré le soutien du gouvernement régional à Lignano 2005 qui a relevé,
certain de son succès, le défi de la septième édition accueillie par Paris l’an dernier. La Région
consacre aussi une attention particulière à d’autres aspects de l’événement : non seulement
compétitions et esprit compétitif des jeunes,
mais surtout socialisation, amitié et compréhension entre les jeunes de 48 pays pour confirmer
un message de paix, aujourd’hui plus que jamais
nécessaire. Le Frioul-Vénétie Julienne mérite le
choix de Lignano pour le FOJE 2005” a confirmé
le délégué au sport de la région, Antonaz, en raison de la tradition sportive de la région (" terre
de champions mondiaux et olympiques ", a
ajouté M. Felluga, nettement à la première place
en Italie dans le rapport population et nombre
d’athlètes présents aux Jeux Olympiques) et en
raison du " taux sportif " non professionnel extrêmement élevé. Antonaz et Pescante ont demandé
une participation financière supplémentaire de
l’Etat pour la manifestation de Lignano. Une
demande qui n’est pas restée inécoutée, a affirmé
le sous-secrétaire Contento : " depuis toujours
proche à cet événement ", lors de la discussion de
la loi de finances 2005 " nous aurons un rôle à
jouer" a-t-il ajouté en s’adressant également aux
nombreux parlementaires présents.
The European Youth Olympics (EYOF
Lignano 2005) will be the largest sports event to
be organised in Italy next year. So said CONI
President Gianni Petrucci, who baptised in Rome
“the most important youth sports event in
Europe”, together with the Regional Councillor
for Sport for Friuli Venezia Giulia, Roberto
Antonaz, and EOC President and Italian
Government Under Secretary for Sport Mario
Pescante. Petrucci and Irish IOC Member and EOC
Secretary General Pat Hickey also stated that they
felt sure that the 2008 Beijing Olympics will see
among its protagonists many of the youths aged
14 to 18 that will be competing in Friuli Venezia
Giulia next year. Also present, testifying to the
unity of intent of the world of sport, the institutions and politics that Lignano 2005 has been able
to achieve thanks to the importance and positive
values that the event intends expressing and

“The Regional Government”, underlined
Councillor Antonaz, “has given its full support to
Lignano 2005, taking on, certain of success, the
challenge after the seventh Paris 2003 edition.
The Region is giving the event special attention,
other regions in terms of number of athletes present at the Olympics) and for the very considerable number of amateurs who practice sport
there. Antonaz and Pescante then asked the
National Government for further funding for
the event in Lignano. An appeal that seems not
to have fallen on deaf ears, as later stated by
Under Secretary Contento. “Having always had
this event at heart”, he said, “when we discuss
the 2005 budget we shall do our part”, also
addressing the numerous MPs present.

Da questo punto di vista il Coni del Friuli Venezia Giulia ha trovato

siamo partner ufficiale del Comitato regionale per tutte le attività finalizzate alla lotta al doping, alla tutela
del talento atletico e alla formazione dei dirigenti sportivi. Come Banca abbiamo anche una testimonial
d’eccezione: l’olimpionica dello sci di fondo Gabriella Paruzzi che per noi rappresenta un simbolo dal

A concrete undertaking to promote Olympic values and the beauties of our land
The Intesa group, through Banca Popolare FriulAdria and Privredna Banka Zagreb, has decided to support
the European Olympic Youth Festival, sharing its strong motivation in terms of ideals and the strategies of
this project. It is, indeed, clear that this is not an occasion for business, but rather an event that is seen in
terms of sense of social responsibility by the Gruppo Intesa, called to sustain the development of the area in which
it operates also with non banking activities. In concrete terms, that which we put at the disposal of the Lignano
Games is a financial contribution for the greater success of the event and as a promotional thrust in terms of promoting tourism in the area. The project has, since its incipience, met with interest on the part of a local bank such
as FriulAdria, a bank that has been a point of reference for the economy and society of the North-East since 1911.
Nevertheless, only the involvement of Gruppo Intesa, of which FriulAdria is part, has made it possible for the event
to have that European feel that is coherent with the provenance of the participating athletes. The concept behind
Gruppo Intesa’s contribution is thus that of supporting sport for youth and amateurs, as well as the promoting of
the Olympic principles within society. From this point of view the Friuli Venezia Giulia CONI branch has found in
Banca Popolare FriulAdria an attentive, credible and enthusiastic sponsor. We have indeed for some years been
official regional partners of the Regional Committee for all those activities that aim to combat doping, defend athletic talent and create sports managers. Our bank has as its truly exceptional advertising testimonial the crosscountry Olympic skiing champion Gabriella Paruzzi, that for us is a symbol from the point of view of sport, professionalism and humanity. Equally important, as I have said, is the aspect of promoting tourism within our area
that, as Gruppo Intesa, sees us perennially involved alongside local institutions in import development projects. A
recent example of this is the winter Universiads organised in Friuli Venezia Giulia in January 2003, a sports event
for which FriulAdria, the only banking partner, and the Region strongly fought for the purpose of modernising the
skiing facilities in the five ski resorts in the region. Always with an eye to developing the economy and infrastructure within the region, FriulAdria and Intesa have worked throughout 2004 in sustaining Trieste’s candidature for
Expo 2008, a strategic project aimed at re-launching an area with a great deal of potential. Also in the case of the
event at Lignano there are to be significant investments in sports facilities and facilities for hosting people. This is
one of the main reasons that have led Gruppo Intesa, in the fulfilment of its mission as bank for the country, to
support an event that will have interesting effects in terms of expansion for the area. Thanks also to its international network, Gruppo Intesa is an extraordinarily well suited feedback organisation for the promotion of tourism
within the area, also in support of eventual forms of action that will be used by the local institutions for the purpose of spreading information on the tourist attractions of our region. All I have left to do, then, is, on behalf of

the sports fields but also the sensation of having lived for some days in a special land.

Al centro dei lavori della Commissione
EYOF, guidata dal belga Guido De Bondt, la
verifica dei vari aspetti tecnico-organizzativi,
che, nel luglio 2005, consentiranno a Lignano
e all'intera regione - quali ospiti dell'ottava
edizione delle Gare Olimpiche della Gioventù
Europea - di diventare la capitale continentale
dello sport giovanile.
La commissione tecnica, presieduta dal danese Jesper Frigast Larsen, ha proceduto alla
disamina degli aspetti logistici e alla definizione del programma sportivo delle prossime
Gare Olimpiche della Gioventù Europea. Dopo
i sopralluoghi sugli impianti sportivi dove si
svolgeranno le gare, Jesper Frigast Larsen
ha dichiarato: "Sono rimasto molto ben
impressionato per i progressi realizzati in
tempi così brevi sotto tutti i profili, in particolare per quanto concerne l'impiantistica.
Possiamo sicuramente dire che tutto sta procedendo nel pieno rispetto delle tabelle di
marcia predefinite, e sono certo che l'ottava
edizione delle Gare Olimpiche della
Gioventù Europea sarà apprezzata sotto tutti
i punti di vista da tutti i partecipanti: dagli
atleti alle famiglie che li accompagneranno,
ai componenti dell'organizzazione".
Ernesto Zanetti, direttore sportivo del
Comitato Lignano 2005 ha rilevato l'ottimo
successo che sta riscuotendo la canoa - una
novità per la
manifestazione con 208 iscritti".
Infine, Maurizio
Romano, referente del C.O.N.I.,
ha sottolineato:
"Questa manifestazione
costituisce
il
primo, grande
evento dedicato ai giovani
che sarà ospitato in Italia. Si
continua sempre a parlare
della necessità di rivolgersi con particolare
attenzione all'attività giovanile: con Lignano
2005 potremo dire di farlo concretamente, lanciando un messaggio che, sotto il profilo sportivo, è diverso ma importante tanto quanto
quello appena lanciato da Atene 2004".

différents aspects techniques et organisationnels qu’en juillet 2005 permettront à Lignano
et à toute la région, en tant qu’organisateurs
de la 8ème édition des Compétitions
Olympiques de la Jeunesse européenne, de
devenir la capitale continentale du sport de la
jeunesse. La commission technique, présidée
par le danois Jesper Frigast Larsen, a examiné
les différents aspects logistiques et a établi le
programme
sportif
des
prochaines
Compétitions Olympiques de la Jeunesse
Européenne. Après la vérification des installations sportives où se dérouleront les compétitions, Jasper Frigast Larsen a déclaré " j’ai eu
une très bonne impression des progrès réalisés en si peu de temps sous différents aspects,
en particulier en ce qui concerne les installations. Nous pouvons dire sans doute que tout
est en train de se dérouler selon les délais prévus et je suis certain que la 8ème édition des
Compétitions Olympiques de la Jeunesse
Européenne sera appréciée sous tous les
points de vue par tous les participants : par les
athlètes, par leurs familles qui les accompagneront, par les membres de l’organisation ".

Lignano 2005 a souligné l’excellent succès
qu’est en train de remporter la canöé, une
nouveauté pour la manifestation, avec 208
inscriptions. Maurizio Romano, représentant
du C.O.N.I., pour conclure a souligné :
" Cette manifestation est le premier grand événement consacré aux jeunes qui se tient en
Italie. On insiste beaucoup sur l’importance de
tenir compte de l’activité sportive des jeunes :
avec Lignano 2005 nous pourrons dire que
nous le faisons concrètement, en lançant un
message, que sous l’aspect sportif est différent mais tout aussi important que celui qui
vient d’être lancé par Athènes 2004".

was to verify the various technical and organisational aspects that, in July 2005, will allow

Commission,
led by Dane

Larsen, investigated the logistics for the event and defined
the sports programme for the coming EYOF.
After on-site visits to the sports venues where
the competitions are to be held, Larsen declared, “I was most impressed by the progress
made in such a short time on all fronts, in particular as concerns the sites themselves. We
can safely say that everything is progressing
in full respect of the timetable set, and I’m certain that the 8th Edition of the EYOF will be
appreciated from all points of view by all participants – from athletes to the family members that accompany them, as well as the support staff”. Ernesto Zanetti, Sports Director for
the Lignano 2005 Organising Committee,
drew attention to the great success canoeing
is having – a novelty for the EYOF – with 208
enrolments. Lastly, Maurizio Romano, CONI
liaison officer, underlined that, “this event is
the first great event dedicated to young people
to be hosted in Italy. There is continual talk of
how it’s necessary to give special attention to
activities for the young, with Lignano 2005 we
will be able to say that we’ve done so concretely, launching a message that, from the point
of view of sport, is different but just as important as the one launched by Athens 2004”.

Trieste Expo 2008 Challenge è la
ragione sociale di una società
consortile per azioni a capitale
pubblico incaricata dal ministro degli
Esteri italiano, Franco Frattini, di
creare e portare avanti un progetto
fortemente voluto da un’intera città e
da tutto il Friuli Venezia Giulia, la
regione al centro della Nuova Europa.
In accordo con il Governo, Trieste
Expo 2008 punta ad ottenere la più
importante esposizione mondiale
tematica prevista fra quattro anni.
Una rassegna attualmente in grado di
richiamare tra i 6 e i 7 milioni di
visitatori in tre mesi e che in Italia è
già stata ospitata da Milano, Roma,
Napoli, Torino, Venezia e, nel XIX
secolo, quattro volte proprio da
Trieste fra il 1863 e il 1882.
Il 16 dicembre, Trieste e l’Italia
conosceranno a Parigi il proprio
destino, contrapposte nella scelta
affidata agli oltre 90 Paesi che
compongono il Bureau International
des Expositions (BIE) alla spagnola
Saragozza ed alla greca Salonicco.

sito, quello già esistente del Porto
Vecchio (25 ettari + 15 di servizi per
l’Expo su un totale di 66)
che
si
vuole
riqualificare
salvaguardando
il
patrimonio
architettonico, a stretto contatto con il
centro cittadino e con le principali
arterie di accesso via mare e via terra.
Il tema proposto da Trieste è il più
affascinante e innovativo, la Mobilità
della Conoscenza, ovvero la scienza,
la tecnologia ed il progresso abbinati
alla crescita dell’uomo, alla sua
evoluzione culturale ed esistenziale.
L’Expo 2008 a Trieste, città forte della
sua storica Università e con una
percentuale di scienziati più alta di
Seattle (32 contro 15), è un’occasione
per tutti i Paesi della Nuova Europa,
per quelli in via d’adesione, per quelli
ancora in fase di crescita e, più in
generale, per tutti i Paesi del mondo,
evoluti e meno evoluti, per valorizzare
le rispettive offerte, le capacità
produttive ed attrattive in un mercato
globale sempre più competitivo.
A fronte di un deciso impegno delle
istituzioni locali (Comune, Provincia,
Camera di Commercio e Autorità
portuale di Trieste, Regione Friuli
Venezia Giulia) e di sponsor quali
Banca Intesa, Fondazione Cassa di
Risparmio Trieste e Azienda per la
Mobilità Territoriale, il Governo ha
annunciato uno stanziamento di fondi
per l’Expo 2008 pari ad oltre 800

Trieste Expo 2008 Challenge ist he
corporate name of a joint venture
with public capital. It was entrusted
by Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs
Franco Frattini with the task of
creating and carrying forward a
project close to the hearts of the
citizens of an entire city and of the
whole of Friuli Venezia Giulia, a
region located in the north-easterly
extremes of Italy and bordering with
Austria and Slovenia – at the centre of
the New Europe.
Working in agreement with the
government, Trieste Expo 2008 aims
to play host to the most important
thematic world fair to be held in four
years’ time. It is an event which
currently has the capacity to attract
more than 5 million visitors to the city
in the space of 3 months. The Expo
has previously been held in Milan,
Rome, Naples, Turin, Venice and in
the 19th century was held in Trieste 4
times between 1863 and 1882.
The destiny of Trieste and Italy will be
revealed in Paris in mid-December.
Here, the group of representatives of
over 90 countries which make up the
Bureau International des Expositions
(BIE) will make their choice from
Trieste, Zaragoza in Spain and
Thessaloniki in Greece. The Italian
candidacy stands a strong chance of
winning due to the proposed site of
the already-existing Old Port (25
hectares + 15 for services for the Expo
out of a total of 66) which will
be
renovated
and
revitalised,
safeguarding architectural heritage in
close contact with the city centre and
the main access routes via land and
sea. Trieste’s proposed theme –
Mobility of Knowledge – is the most
intriguing and innovative. It points
towards science, technology and
progress combined with the growth
of Man and his cultural and
existential evolution. Expo 2008 in
Trieste - a city known for its historical
University and with a percentage of
scientists higher than that in Seattle
(32 against 15) - is an opportunity for
all the countries of the New Europe,
for the new member states and those
about to become members, and in a
more general sense for all the
countries of the world both
developing and developed, to make
the most of the respective offers,
productive capacity and attractions of
an increasingly competitive global
market. As a result of a concerted effort
from local institutions (the City Council,
the Provincial Government, Chamber of
Commerce, Trieste Port Authority and
Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional
Government) and from sponsors
such as Banca Intesa, Fondazione
Cassa di Risparmio Trieste and the
Azienda per la Mobilità Territoriale
(Regional Transport Company), the
government has announced it intends
to pledge funding equivalent to a
total of more than 800 million Euro,
