3.a. 3.a.1. Contestualmente porre P48 = 9999. TERMICA MOTORE CESTO – TERMICA MOTORE VENTOLA DRUM MOTOR THERMAL – FAN MOTOR THERMAL MARCA MOTORE ALIMENTAZIONE (ultima lettera TAGLIA TARATURA del codice MOTORE [A] macchina) 71 1,25 A, E, G, H, L, O, P, Q, R, S 80 2,3 LAFERT C, F AEG B, I A, E, G, H, L, O, P, Q, R, S BERMAR 19 di/of 42 C, F B, I M, N GAMAR D 71 2,2 80 4 71 2,8 80 5 71 1,15 80 2,1 71 2 80 3,63 71 3 80 5,1 71 2,53 80 5 71 4,37 80 8,6 5. When this warning appears the drying cycle is interrupted. Before using again the machine you will need: - Wait for the cooling of the motor’s thermal protection device; - Reset the thermal protection device; - Restart the machine. 1. INSPECTIONS THE END USER CAN DO BY ITSELF Individuate and write down the number of the program and the cycle during which the alarm occurred. On IM7 control cards the alarm is historicized automatically and can be accessed through the alarm log (see chapter 6). When the error appears, turn off the machine and empty the drum completely. Please call your technical service staff and inform the technician if the error was related to the drum’s motor or to the fan blower’s motor. Inform the technician about any unusual noises coming from the motors before the intervention of one of two alarms. 2. INTERVENTION ON SITE BY THE TECHNICIAN When working on site the technician has to have with himself: - Tools to open the back panel of the machine; Tools to disconnect the drain hose from the machine; Digital multimeter with the function of ammeter and voltmeter. Turn on the machine and see if the error appears on the display that is concerning to the drum or to the fan. Then turn off the machine and go at its back to open the dryer’s electrical panel. Then remove the panel. You should find one of the following configurations: 2.a. TUMBLE DRYER WITHOUT REVERSING DRUM ACTION (1 MOTOR) TERMICA MOTORE CESTO – TERMICA MOTORE VENTOLA DRUM MOTOR THERMAL – FAN MOTOR THERMAL 25 di/of 42 In this case the only motor present in the dryer is used for both the fan and for the rotation of the drum. Press the blue key of the thermal protection device labelled as "RMVE" and try to start a drying cycle. If the problem persists, refer to chapter 3. 2.b. TUMBLE DRYER WITH REVESERSING DRUM ACTION (2 MOTORS) In this case there are two thermal control devices, one dedicated to the fan motor and one dedicated to the drum motor. Depending on the type of error that has occurred in the display, press the blue button located above the device "RMVE" (fan) or "RMMO" (drum). Retry the starting of a drying cycle. If the problem persists, refer to Chapter 3. 2.c. TUMBLE DRYER / TANDEM’S DRYER WITH INVERTER FOR DRUM AND STANDARD CONTACTOR FOR FAN BLOWER (“DSC” OPTION – 2 MOTORS) In this type of machine is present a standard contactor with its thermal relay (RMVE) for the control of the fan blower. Then an inverter (IBMO) for controlling the speed of the drum. If the alarm has been generated by the thermal device placed on the contactor of the fan, press the blue button located above the device. If the alarm is triggered by the inverter that controls the drum, press the RESET button available on the inverter’s panel or turn the machine off completely for 30 seconds. Then retry the starting of a drying cycle. If the problem persists, refer to Chapter 3. 2.d. TUMBLE DRYER / TANDEM’S DRYER WITH INVERTER SPEED CONTROL ON BOTH DRUM AND FAN BLOWER – (OPTION “FSC” - 2 MOTORI) TERMICA MOTORE CESTO – TERMICA MOTORE VENTOLA DRUM MOTOR THERMAL – FAN MOTOR THERMAL 26 di/of 42 In this type of machine there are two inverters for controlling the speed of the fan blower (IBVE) and an inverter (IBMO) for controlling the speed of the drum. Depending on the inverter that generated the error, press the RESET button or turn the machine off completely for 30 seconds. Then retry the starting of a drying cycle. If the problem persists, refer to Chapter 3. 3. ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL CHECKS TO BE CARRIED OUT AFTER THE RESET OF THE THERMAL SAFETY DEVICE As described in chapter n°2, the thermal protection for the motor can be provided by an electromechanical thermal safety device, a.k.a. "motor-saver" coupled with a 3 phase contactor. Eventually the protection can be assigned to the current control provided by the inverter (or frequency controllers) which control the motor. Both devices are pre-calibrated by Imesa SPA. The change in the operating current of the thermal device must be carried out only with the consent of the After Sales service IMESA SPA. Will now be listed in the principles of operation of both devices. 3.a. ELETROMECHANICAL THERMAL SAFETY DEVICE “MOTOR-SAVER” (RMVE or RMMO) It is an electromechanical component can signal the anomalous current absorption by the motor. The three phase input is coming from the contactor which it is connected directly through the three fixed terminals, the three output phases (sent to the motor) are available at the terminals T1-T2-T3. The yellow knob allows you to adjust the trip current that must be equal to “In” (rated current) of the motor. If the current flowing through the line exceeds the set value, the thermal device operates by switching the auxiliary contacts of which it is equipped. The device is equipped with two independent contacts N.C. and N.O. (each with its own common input). WARNING For machines produced since serial number E201310101 (included) the N.O. contact is used to report the failure to the control board. The contact N.C. is instead inserted in series with the concerning contactor’s coil which the thermal safety device is plugged. TERMICA MOTORE CESTO – TERMICA MOTORE VENTOLA DRUM MOTOR THERMAL – FAN MOTOR THERMAL 27 di/of 42 For machines produced up to serial number E201310100 it was used the N.C. contact to report the failure to the control board. The contact N.O. was not used. If you need to replace the IM7 control board with a newer one, pay attention: After the installing of the new card will appear the alarm display "DRUM MOTOR THERMAL" (referring either the fan or the motor of the drum). Proceed as follows: - Access to technical menu with the following passwords: For standard dryers: START + START + START + START + ▲ + ▲; For Coin-op dryers: START + START + START + START + HIGH + HIGH. - Search for the parameter “GESTIONE TERMICHE MOTORI” and set the value “NC”. - Escape from the technical menu and start a drying cycle. 3.a.1. ALARM “DRUM MOTOR THERMAL” ON MACHINE EQUIPED BY “ABB” SAFETY DEVICE To clear the alarm from the display you need to turn off the machine and remove the power cord. Open the rear cover of the electrical panel of the machine and push the Blue button. Reactivate the power supply and check the disappearance of the alarm from the IM7 control board’s display. Do not set the cursor of the blue button to position "A". Do not increase the threshold of the thermal safety device as the motor (and the power line) may be damaged beyond repair. The main reasons which can cause this kind of alarm are the following: REASON Laundry overloading inside the drum (especially with not high spun garments) Difficulty on drum rotation (bearings) Missing phase on power supply (motor’s stator very noisy – general ”electric” noise) Motore rumoroso (rumore meccanico) SOLUTION Be sure to introduce only high spun garments to 800/1000 RPM to take advantage of the rated capacity of the machine. If the garments are not high spun halve the amount inserted. However, reduce the load or test the dryer with empty drum. - On standard dryers: Remove the belt and check the drum’s bearings by rotating with your hands. If there were impediments in the rotation or unusual noise, estimate replacement with bearings and possibly the back cross of the drum. - On Tandem: analyze any noises coming from the motor. In case, remove the motor and its gearbox from the shaft and try them individually the manual rotation of the drum, either the activation of the motor unit and gearbox. If the alarm occurs again split the gearbox from the engine and try just the engine. If the alarm occurs even when the engine is powered up, disconnect the motor from the inverter. If the error is present only when the inverter powered, check the errors on that drive. - On standard dryers: By using a voltmeter evaluate the real absence of a power phase, in particular verify that the missing phase is absent after of the drum motor’s contactor. In this case, replace one of the two contactors of the drum. If the phase was already absent from the incoming line terminals, contact your electrician or the maintenance staff. - On Tandem: For single-phase inverters the lack of a single power phase cause the inverter to switch off. - On standard dryers: Disconnect the belts and test the motor without any load to its shaft. Compare the motor consumption with the rated current indicated on the motor’s plate. Evaluate if the noise comes from the motor’s bearings or from the servo fan. - On Tandem: perform the checks listed in the "Difficulty on drum rotation”. [ONLY FOR NOT REVERSING DRYER] Hard starting of the fan blower Missing phase on power supply (motor’s stator very noisy – general ”electric” noise) Motore rumoroso (rumore meccanico) - On standard Dryers and Tandem 8/11 Kg: Check for any unusual noise when starting a cycle. The fan must reach the top speed no later than 5 seconds after activation. If the motor was stuck proceed with the removal and replacement of the bearings and the cleaning of the fan and its housing. - On Tandem 14/18 Kg: Repeat the above checks and remember to check the belt that connects the motor pulley to the fan pulley. If necessary, tighten the belt by removing the motor from the fan pulley. ALLARM “DRUM/FAN MOTOR THERMAL” FOR MACHINE EQUIPPED BY “MITSUBISHI” INVERTER The inverter that operates the rotation of the drum or the rotation of the fan is equipped with a safety contact which opens when the inverter recognizes a failure. Therefore, the message " DRUM MOTOR THERMAL" or "FAN MOTOR THERMAL" could also be caused by errors that are not strictly related to motor overload or to the overload of the drum (which are subject to the same solutions described in previous chapters 3.a.1. and 3.a.2.). If this error is present continuously on the display of the machine, compare it with the real error present on the inverter’s display. The inverter is equipped with a 4-digit display and can be reached by opening the back of the machine. Take note of the error and compare it with the tables below. If the error is not present among those listed below, contact the after sale office of IMESA SPA. TERMICA MOTORE CESTO – TERMICA MOTORE VENTOLA DRUM MOTOR THERMAL – FAN MOTOR THERMAL 29 di/of 42 To clear the alarm from the display it’s necessary to switch off completely the machine by the main power switch, or remove the power cord for at least 30 seconds. Provide power again and check for recurrence of the alarm on the display of the machine. The errors on the inverter can also be reset by pressing the RESET button on its operator panel. The analysis on the error and its cause is postponed to the following chapters. 3.b.1. Warning messages They are error messages that appear on the display of the inverter for a few moments during normal operation of the machine, this kind of messages keeps on display until the restoration of normal functional values. They do not constitute a reason to block the inverter definitely. It will try by itself to return to normal operation by a series of automatic resets. The warnings can be considered as the prelude to a fault and should not be however underestimated. Here below the list of the major warning messages that may appear on washing machines: TERMICA MOTORE CESTO – TERMICA MOTORE VENTOLA DRUM MOTOR THERMAL – FAN MOTOR THERMAL 30 di/of 42 3.b.2. The failure messages (errors) They are messages that appear on the display of the inverter and remain there until the shutdown of the whole tumble dryer, or until a RESET signal is applied to the inverter. For machines equipped by IM7 microprocessor the reset can be performed by pressing the STOP/RESET key on the inverter directly. Depending on the type of fault, the inverter block may be more or less timely. The failure and the block of the inverter disappear when, after the reset, the conditions that created the fault are no longer present. The continuous block of the inverter due to failures or errors, can seriously affect its efficiency. TERMICA MOTORE CESTO – TERMICA MOTORE VENTOLA DRUM MOTOR THERMAL – FAN MOTOR THERMAL 31 di/of 42 Here are the meanings of the most common errors and corrective actions to be taken to solve the problem. The parameter’s list included in IMESA’s inverter are tested and certified. The errors mentioned here should not occur under normal conditions of use. Please note that the full efficiency of the inverter can be obtained by inserting parameters updated. Before performing any repair or modification to the parameters of the inverter, make sure you have already entered the most recent listing. It is recommended to operate the increasing of the P7 parameter of 5,0 seconds compared to the original value. Then retry the start of the spin cycle. If the error occurs again add more 5,0 seconds to the value of P7 and try again. Operate the increase of P7 enough to extinguish the error, up to a maximum of 20,0 seconds longer than the original value. The increase of P7 makes the acceleration ramp longer. Check for flooding motor: wet coils or wet motor’s terminals can produce this kind of alarm too. TERMICA MOTORE CESTO – TERMICA MOTORE VENTOLA DRUM MOTOR THERMAL – FAN MOTOR THERMAL 32 di/of 42 It is advisable to focus attention to the cable that goes from the inverter to the motor and the motor itself. Check any further short circuit all along the cable’s wires or between its internal wires and the shield. Unplug the cable from the terminals U-V-W of the inverter and evaluate again the presence of this error. Check for flooding motor: wet coils or wet motor’s terminals can produce this kind of alarm too. It is recommended to operate the increasing of the parameter P8 of 5,0 seconds compared to the original value. Set the washing machine at full speed by executing a spin cycle and pressing the STOP button immediately on the microprocessor. If the error occurs again add more 5,0 seconds to the value of P8 and try again. Operate the increase of P8 enough to extinguish the error, up to a maximum of 20,0 seconds longer than the original value. The increase of P8 makes the deceleration ramp longer. TERMICA MOTORE CESTO – TERMICA MOTORE VENTOLA DRUM MOTOR THERMAL – FAN MOTOR THERMAL 33 di/of 42 It is recommended to operate the increasing of the parameter P22 of 5 units compared to the original value and perform a new drying cycle. If the error recurs add other 5 units to the value of P22 and try again. Operate the increase of P22 enough to extinguish the error, up to a maximum of 175%. The increase of P22 makes the intermediate circuit of the inverter more vulnerable. At the same time set P48 = 9999. It’s recommendable to set the indicated parameters as follow: P882 = 1; P883 = 400; P885 = 9999 Make sure that the inverter is cooled by the fan blower which is equipped and that the environmental temperature does not exceed 40° C. If the corrective actions suggested in the table here above do not lead to any benefit, set the value of P72 = 4. Set the same parameter changes described for error E.OV3. Check that the inverter is not working in extremely hot environment, without air ventilation, with particularly wet and stagnant atmosphere. TERMICA MOTORE CESTO – TERMICA MOTORE VENTOLA DRUM MOTOR THERMAL – FAN MOTOR THERMAL 34 di/of 42 Set the parameter P9 = 0000. Make sure the motor is not physically damaged at the bearings or that has not been flooded. Check the drum of the machine rotates freely, without belts, and that during rotation there is no noise coming from the drum’s bearings or from the fan’s bearing. If the problem is involving the fan, make sure the exhaust pipe is not clogged and does not create a block for the outgoing air such as to create the fan motor overload. Conversely, make sure that the machine does not encounter problems at the air intake. For these three errors is recommended to make the following changes: P8 = P8 + 20 sec (max); P9 = 0000, P10 = 0000, P11 = 00, P12 = 00, P72 = 8; Only in the case of continuous "E.Fin" you should change: P244 = 0 At the same time provide an efficient exchange of air or air-conditioning in the room. In those installations where the ambient temperature can’t be controlled, provide an auxiliary ventilation to the inverter compartment. TERMICA MOTORE CESTO – TERMICA MOTORE VENTOLA DRUM MOTOR THERMAL – FAN MOTOR THERMAL 35 di/of 42 Verify that the three input phases arrive correctly to the terminals L1-L2-L3 of the inverter. Verify that the absence of one of the three input phases does not depend on bad wiring inside the machine. In particular, control the ON-OFF main switch on the back panel. Only for machines with microprocessor IM8, check the power connector of the inverter placed under the box that contains it. Be especially careful if the machine is powered by an interlocked plug and fuses. The failure of a fuse might result in the presence of this alarm. If the error persists, although there is absolute certainty that the three input phases are always present and stable, try to temporarily set P872 = 0 and check with a couple of washing cycles the onset of other errors to the inverter. Check in particular that there is an accidental contact between a motor terminal and ground. Sometimes the contact might be caused by the presence of water inside the motor terminal’s box. Also make sure that the motor cable is not pinched or that has a damaged insulation. Check with a clamp ampere meter the flow of current on all three phases of the cable that connects the inverter to the motor. It is not necessary to measure the voltage. The lack of passage of current in one phase is an indication about the opening of one of the motor’s coils, therefore it will be necessary to measure the TERMICA MOTORE CESTO – TERMICA MOTORE VENTOLA DRUM MOTOR THERMAL – FAN MOTOR THERMAL 36 di/of 42 impedances of each coil to understand which is the one damaged. For a correct reading, remove all equipotential bars present inside the motor’s terminal box and use an ohm meter for measuring the coils as described in the picture here below. st U – U1 = 1 motor coil = _______ Ω V – V1 = 2 nd motor coil = _______ Ω rd W – W1 = 3 motor coil = _______ Ω We recommend that you do not focus on this error because it always appears after a number of attempts made by the inverter reset’s procedure. Together with the occurrence of this error, there must be the presence of a major failure. We recommend that you move the switch "V-I" in the "V" (voltage reference input) as shown in the figure. The switch is present on the front control board of the inverter under the plastic panel, next to the control terminals. (current reference input) (voltage reference input) 4. CONTROL OF THE MOTOR CONSUMPTION AND THERMAL RELAY SETTING. TERMICA MOTORE CESTO – TERMICA MOTORE VENTOLA DRUM MOTOR THERMAL – FAN MOTOR THERMAL 37 di/of 42 The control for the motor’s absorption of the dryers should be performed after the thermal safety relay. It’s necessary to use an "pliers" shaped ammeter which has to be inserted, in sequence, on all three phases connected to the motor. The verification must be done while the machine is working, paying attention to the moving parts and to live parts. The verification shall be carried out as shown in the following photos: Above is an example of amperometric measurements conducted after the thermal relay RMVE (fan) and RMMO (drum) on a dryer with double action of the drum. Above is an example of amperometric measurements conducted after of the thermal RMVE (fan + drum) of a dryer without reversing system. In this case, the dryer is equipped with a single motor. The value of current has to be compared with the one declared by the engine manufacturer. Below are three examples of plates in which they are declared voltages and rated currents of the motors. If you find abnormal consumption please do again the tests by disconnecting the belts and removing the load from the drum. CONSUMPTION CONTROL FOR MOTORS ASSISTED BY INVERTERS For machines equipped by the inverter is possible to detect the current supplied to the motor without the aid of measuring instruments. The inverter is equipped with an internal ammeter that is available during the phase of operation of the machine. With the machine turned and a running program, press once the SET button on the inverter panel. The red letter "A" has to switch on and the display will show the Amperes actually absorbed by the motor during rotation. The displayed value is not stable and may fluctuate according to the load. During this reading, the red lights next to the "MON" and "EXT" label have to be lit (see green box below). The A (amperes) reading previously done should then be compared to the value of the inverter’s internal thermal relay. If the current is higher than the maximum one accepted by the motor, the inverter will display the error "E.THM" (see section 3.b.2.). The threshold is already set by IMESA SPA and can be viewed by entering the parameter "P9". Press the "MODE" button once and "P. 0" appears on display. Turn the black knob clockwise until the display shows "P. 9". Press the SET key once and note the value in amperes which is displayed. During the check of “P. 9” the light “PRM” and “EXT” have to be switched on. Do not change the value of “P. 9” if not authorized by IMESA SPA’s After Sale Dept. To exit the reading of the parameter switch off the machine by the main switch and wait until the inverter switches off completely (all the lights and the display have to switch off). TERMICA MOTORE CESTO – TERMICA MOTORE VENTOLA DRUM MOTOR THERMAL – FAN MOTOR THERMAL 40 di/of 42 If you find abnormal consumption please re-do the tests by disconnecting the belts and removing the load from the drum. Evaluate at the same time if there are abnormal mechanical noises, particularly with bearings from the motor. The values "P. 9 "are not grouped in a single table due to the variety of combinations of inverters. 6.
