Profile
I am currently a research associate of the Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis (PRIAn) unit at IMT
Institute for Advanced Studies, Lucca, Italy, and therein a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science and
Engineering. My research activity is focused on the design and implementation of a low cost sensor for
image-based high-throughput plant phenotyping, and the development of a context-aware compression
algorithm on resource-constrained devices. My main interests are in image and video compression, computer
vision, machine learning, and life science applications. My work has spanned a diverse set of topics, at the
intersection of different fields. Topics in which I have produced original contributions include: image and
video compression, rate-distortion optimization, color space transformation, image segmentation, cloud
resource allocation, fuzzy recommender systems, and nonnegative matrix factorizations.
