The organizations that cooperate to manage the salt pan are:
Cervia Municipality;
Company “Parco della Salina di Cervia”;
Cooperative Company “Atlantide”;
Parks and Biodiversity Managemnet Body - Delta del Po;
National Forest Service.
Each organization has its own duty.

Energy consumptions
Electrical energy for the functioning of the pumps (12) and for the
packaging plant
average yearly consumptions = 280.000 kW (15-20% for the packaging
plant).
No purchase of “green” (from renewable resources) electricity
No production of electricity from renewable resources
Diesel fuel consumption for train and equipment/machinery depending on
the production
2009: (600 mt of harvest) 2.400 lt
2011: (1.000 mt of harvest) 4.500 lt
Regular maintenance of the machinery, but old ones (low efficiency)

Test on waters and on Product
No test on entering sea waters
Regular yearly test on salt samples: no traces of pollutant substances
have ever found in the samples
Packaging
The salt is packed in plastic (PE) films, in different sizes according to the
target of consumer: 300g, 1 kg, 5 kg, 25 kg
No ecological or recycled materials are used for packaging

Impacts of biological life cycles
All the paths of the guided tours have been subject to environmental
assessment according to protection laws, so they have been studied to
have the lowest impact on avifauna and in general on the ecosystem
No visits without guides are allowed
To visit other parts of the salina a permission/authorization of the National
Forest Service is needed
Mobility
Only low impact means of transportation are used inside the salt pan for the
tours: walking, bikes, electric boats
To arrive at the Visit Centre most of the tourists use collective means
The visit is quite near to the train station and it is connected to downtown
with a subway for pedestrians and bikes, and it is possible to arrive by boat

Promotional material is printed both with recycled paper and white paper
The corner shop sells, among the others, some items (gadgets) with
ecological characteristics
The snack bar sells, among the others, some local products
Inside the Center there is the separated collection of waste

Main management area procedures to improve natural resources
conservation
The Plan of Cervia Station gives a series of directives aimed at the
saline nature conservation, such as:
- creation of new sites for the nesting of Caradriformi
- strict control of water levels during reproductive periods
- fit the variations of waters levels for salt production with the fauna
protection needs
- creation of buffer zones within 500 mt to the salt pans with hunting
silence

Considerations/Suggestions about environmental aspects:
- Detailed monitoring energy consumptions
- Verify the possibility of installing energy production plants from renewable
sources (for self-consume or for educational purposes)
- Buy green electric energy
- Conduct tests on entering sea waters
- Verify the possibility of using recycled plastic/materials for packaging
- Establish a maximum number of visitors per day, during avifauna
reproductive periods
- Promote the use of public transport or low impact means of transportation
to arrive at the visit center
- Increase green procurement for the Visit center, for the Corner shop, and
for the Snack bar
