COMPETITION ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ADMISSION TO THE 6-YEAR SINGLE- CYCLE
DEGREE COURSE IN MEDICINE AND SURGERY OF THE “A. GEMELLI” SCHOOL OF
MEDICINE – A. Y. 2014/2015
Article 1 – Number of places available and requirements for the admission
A public competition has been opened at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore,
concerning the academic year 2014/2015, for admission to the 6-year single-cycle Degree
course in Medicine and Surgery for the following number of places:
• n. 30 places reserved to Italian and EU citizens residing anywhere and to non-EU citizens
legally residing in Italy (Law no.189/2002, art.26);
• n. 20 places reserved to non-EU citizens residing abroad;
• n. 2 places reserved to Chinese citizens participating in the “Marco Polo” Project.
The number of places available may change in accordance with the Decree of the Ministry of
Education, University and Research (M.I.U.R.), Law n. 264, August 2nd 1999.
Requirements for the admission test. May take part:
• candidates enrolled at the fifth year of an Italian high school at the date of the present
Competition Announcement;
• candidates already holders of a high school leaving certificate;
• candidates enrolled at the last year of a high school abroad which awards certifications
valid for the admission to Italian University courses.
Article 2 – Date and venues of the admission test
The admission test will take place on Thursday April 3rd 2014 at the premises of the
Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore located in the city of Rome at the following address:
Largo Francesco Vito 1 - 00168 Roma, and in the foreign testing sites indicated below.
The University reserves the right to modify the venue arrangements, should this be required
for organizational reasons or due to a non-sufficient number of candidates in any of the
foreign testing sites indicated. Furthermore the University reserves the right to modify the
date of the admission test and the registration time, due to any organizational reasons.
Applicants will be promptly notified of any changes.
Candidates must present for registration at 12.00 pm and in the foreign testing sites
registration will begin according to the following timetable:

In order to be admitted to the test, from January 15th 2014 to March 14th 2014 applicants
must comply with the procedure indicated below:
• access the website http://roma.unicatt.it and read carefully the “Application Guide”
following all the instructions for the Online Application;
• to finalize application candidates must pay a contribution for public competition expenses
of €160 (one hundred and sixty), no later than March 14th 2014; the payment receipt will
be required on the day of the test; make sure the payment has been successfully
registered, which validates the admission to the test. The sum of €160 paid as a
contribution for test admission expenses is not refundable at any circumstance.
Article 3 – Candidates with disabilities
In accordance with Law no.104, February 5th 1992 and as modified by the Law n. 17/1999,
candidates with disabilities must send a certification and formally request any means of
support/help, to the following email address: [email protected] no later than
March 14th 2014.
In accordance with Law n. 170/2010, candidates suffering from Learning Disabilities and
Disorders must send a certification and formally request any means of support/help, to the
following email address: [email protected] no later than March 14th 2014,
and they will have 30% additional time to complete the admission test.
The Commission reserves the right to conduct the checks of the certifications provided and
will evaluate the requests of further support/help.
On the day of the test candidates with Learning Disabilities and Disorders and are kindly
required to bring along with them the certification in the original form.
Article 4 – Candidates holders of foreign school certificates
For candidates holders of foreign school certificates, in case they rank among the candidates

winning the competition, enrolment is subject to prior verification of validity of the school
certificates provided and of the documentation required in the Annex “A” of the present
Competition Announcement, in compliance with current Italian regulation.
The above-mentioned documentation must be submitted by September 15th 2014.
The test results of candidates holders a foreign school certificate will be included in the same
final ranking of candidates holding Italian school certificates.

Article 5 – Admission
Admission to the 6-year single-cycle Degree course in Medicine and Surgery is subject
exclusively to the evaluation of the written test. The minimum passing score required is 35
(thirty-five) points out of 100 (one-hundred).
Article 6 – Written test and contents
The lists of the testing venues and classrooms at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of
Rome, as well as of the foreign testing sites indicated in Article 2 of the present
Announcement will be made public on March 21st 2014 on the Faculty boards and on the
website http://roma.unicatt.it .
On the day of the test, candidates must bring their payment receipt and one identification
document among the following:
• Passport (compulsory for Non-Eu candidates);
• Identity card;
• Driving licence.
Candidates with disabilities or Learning Disabilities and Disorders are kindly required to bring
along with them the certification in the original form.
It is forbidden for candidates to bring into the classroom or to the seat assigned
bags/briefcases, mobile phones, tablet, calculators, books and notebooks. Candidates
arriving at the testing venue after the completion of the registration operations will not be
allowed to sit for the test.
The written test consists of 100 (one-hundred) multiple choice questions divided as follows:

• 95 on psycho-attitudinal subjects (logic, visual space reasoning, text understanding,
attention and precision, numerical reasoning, problem solving);
• 5 on religious culture.
Candidates have 100 minutes to complete the test.
Evaluation follows the criteria indicated below:
• 1 point for each correct answer;
• minus 0.25 point for each wrong answer;
• no points for no answer.
Article 7 – Results of the written test
The results of the written test will be published on the boards of the “A. Gemelli” School of
Medicine and on the website http://roma.unicatt.it by April 11th 2014.
Two final rankings will be produced:
1) one for EU and non-EU candidates residing in Italy;
2) one for non-EU candidates residing abroad.
In both final rankings, in case of a tie the youngest candidate will prevail.
Article 8 – Pre-enrolment procedures for admitted candidates
From the date of the publication of the rankings to April 18th 2014, admitted candidates must
pre-enroll completing the procedure indicated below:
a) access the website http://roma.unicatt.it and pay the first University fee instalment,
amounting to € 4.000 no later than April 18th 2014. The sum of € 4.000 shall in no case
be reimbursed;
b) send a copy of the payment receipt of the first University fee instalment and a “Statement
of Acceptance” (online form), by email to [email protected] .
Candidates that do not comply with the provisions a) and b) indicated above by the
deadlines indicated in the present article shall be considered as 'withdrawn'; vacant places
shall be made available to other candidates according to merit ranking.

Article 9 – Requirements for admitted candidates
Winners of the competition in order to enroll must be holders at the time of the enrolment of:
• High School Leaving Certificate;
• English Language Certification, satisfying the following minimum scores:

All candidates are required to provide the English Language Certification. Are exempted
from producing the English Language Certification, only candidates who have attended an
English speaking high-school.
The above-mentioned Certifications with the relative minimum score indicated will be the
only ones accepted.
Article 10 – Enrolment procedures for admitted candidates
To enroll, admitted candidates must deliver, no later than September 15th 2014, to the
front-office “Polo Servizio Carriera Studenti” the following documents:

request addressed to the Rector (download online form);
“Statement of Acceptance” of the Ethics Code (download online form);
Copy or self-declaration of high school leaving certificate;
English Language Certification;
holders of foreign school certificates must provide the high school leaving certificate,
along with the documentation required in the Annex “A”;
two card-size photo (indicate name and surname on reverse side);
a photocopy of ID document and fiscal code card (codice fiscale);
christening certificate (only for Catholics). In the absence of the certificate, candidates
will fix an appointment with an Ecclesiastic Assistant (at any time, also after enrolment);
non-EU students must provide a photocopy of a valid residence permit;
certificate of vaccination for hepatitis B;
certificate of Mantoux-technique tuberculosis test, as indicated in the health provision
no.17712/1998 (State-Regions Conference); the test shall be conducted in a public
structure;

12) clergy are requested to provide a declaration from their superior authorizing the
enrolment at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.
If documentation is incomplete download from the website the online form “Dichiarazione dei
Documenti Mancanti” (Statement of Missing Documentation) and fill it in.
Candidates already enrolled at other universities have to provide, besides the above
indicated documentation, the transfer request statement issued by the original university.
Documents forwarded by post or courier must be sent, with recorded delivery, no later than
September 15th 2014, to the following address: Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore - Polo
Servizio Carriera Studenti – Largo Francesco Vito 1, 00168 Roma (Italia).
The documentation must be in any case delivered by September 15th 2014, even if
incomplete. Candidates that do not comply with the provisions indicated in the present Article
within deadline, shall be considered as “withdrawn”.
PLEASE NOTE
• The University reserves the right to conduct the checks provided by the law on the
declarations furnished by the candidates. Should these declarations result to be untruthful,
the University may take the disciplinary actions established by current Legislation and
proceed to the immediate expulsion of the student from the university.

Applications for participation in the competition for admission to the 6-year single-cycle
Degree course in Medicine and Surgery of the “A. Gemelli” School of Medicine may be sent,
within September 15th 2014, by the citizens below:

citizens from Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, San Marino;
Italian citizens with foreign school certificates;
non-EU citizens legally residing in Italy holding a residence permit for any of the
following reasons:
o
work;
o
family;
o
political asylum;
o
humanitarian or religious reasons;
o
with Italian higher school certificates and holders of a residence permit for any
reason for at least 1 year;
citizens from the People's Republic of China participating in the “Marco Polo” Project;
non-EU citizens residing abroad.
Besides submitting the application to take part in the competition in accordance with the
instructions listed under Article 4 of the Announcement, citizens with foreign school
certificates are required to provide, no later than September 15th 2014, the following
documents:

a photocopy of the high-school leaving certificate with grade achieved, along with a
certified Italian translation and the statement of validity issued by the Italian Consulate or
Embassy in the foreign country;
an “Academic Eligibility” test pass certificate if required to enroll at university in the
candidate's country;
candidates with less than 12 schooling years are required to provide a certificate of
partial university studies or non-university post-high school studies (exams passed and
official documentation on course contents) to complete the missing schooling years of
the diploma.
Should non-EU citizens residing abroad and citizens from the People's Republic of China
taking part in the “Marco Polo” Project pass the selection, they will have to provide also a
photocopy of the Temporary residence permit or Extended residence permit.

Documents must be accompanied by the enclosed application form and must be sent by

Non-EU citizens, even if holding Italian school certificates, have to complete the required
documentation with their residence permit.
Please Note:
All the documents in foreign language must be accompanied by an official Italian translation.
Official translations are at the applicant's expenses. In Italy, applicants can refer to the local
Court (Tribunale di zona) and ask for official sworn translators, or to the Consulates or
Diplomatic Delegations of the country that issued the certificate. In the case of translations
made in the original countries, translations must be certified (exception made for some
exempted countries) by the local Italian Delegation in charge.
