In fa For several years now our Country has been dormant waiting for a decisive change. Choosing Italy as the right venue for Expo 2015 should be an opportunity for Italian businesses to take up the scepter of command. “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, a motto that should be supported by the fashion industry as well as the other sectors. Yes, because fashion is nourishment and life as it generates creativity, excellence and workforce. A scenario in which companies linked to Centro Tessile Milano impose themselves emphasize quality as a competitive advantage, focusing on high level of production, wide range of choice and with a definite diktat related to the proudness of Made in Italy. Not by chance many companies in the fashion industry have chosen to maintain or even restore production in our Country. This choice in not exclusively due to the high charges on freight transport or labor oitside the borders, but also for the great impact that still has the words “Made in Italy”. The crisis was long ... now we can say that the light at the end of the tunnel can be easily seen? Data in hand, in 2014 the sector grew by 2.7% to 52 billion, and for 2015 there is in anticipation a further increase in turnover of 3.8%, but the road is still relatively long to return to the pre 2008 and to reach again anadequate numbers of jobs, exports and production. History CTM was born in 1984 thanks the initiative of about thirty textile operators which have been working in the “heart” of Milan for many years. In order to offer to the customers an easier access, a large parking and a quick connection to the centre of Milan, the airoports and the main arterial roads, CTM was built out of town. Today “Centro Tessile Milano” gathers over 190 associates offering a wide range of textile products, from clothes to underwear, from leather fashion to linen, from costume-jewelery to fabrics, from footwear to haberdashery. Statute CTM is strictly reserved to the dealers operating in the textile, decorating fabrics, house linen, clothes and accessories branch. Entrance and sale are forbidden to private clients. From 1987 a document must be shown to the card inspector to enter CTM. This card can be issued to the petitioner dealer upon production of a trading licence copy. CTM is managed by a consortium runs by the directory board. struttura structure CONSORZIATI / associates: 190 PADIGLIONI / pavillions: 20 SUPERFICIE / surface: 140.000 mq AREA VERDE / green area: 15.000 mq AREA COPERTA / covered area: 90.000 mq VETRINE / shop-windows: 2 kmq di fronte con porticato parcheggio auto parking 1.100 posti distribuiti per tutto il Centro over 1.100 places metro underground MM2 Linea Verde fermata Villa Fiorita MM2 Green Line Villa Fiorita Station hotel convenzionati hotel For You Hotel - tel. 0292462211 via Mazzini, 3/F - Cernusco s/Naviglio Hotel Concorde - tel. 0292100549 via Mazzini, 22 - Cernusco s/Naviglio collegamenti connections 15 minuti dal centro di Milano 15 minutes from the centre of Milan 15 minuti dall’aeroporto di Linate 15 minutes from Linate Airport 60 minuti dall’aeroporto di Malpensa 60 minutes from Malpensa Airport 40 minuti dall’aeroporto di Bergamo (Orio al Serio) 40 minutes from Orio al Serio Airport (Bergamo) 5 minuti dalla tangenziale Milano Est (uscita Gobba) 5 minutes from tangenziale Est of Milan (gate Gobba) taxi Radio Taxi tel. 026969 028585 tel. 3396567500 3384002435 bar e ristoranti bars and restaurants Self-service tel. 0223166667 - Pad. ” Born in 1984, the Centro Tessile Milano is a reality almost unique in Italy for distribution of wholesale fashion. His great patrimony of knowledge, accumulated in many years of successes, results essential to be always the avant-guard in the ability to offer the best in trends, while remaining always competitive in all fronts: quality, service and innovation that are really its points of strength. Its expansion has been made in a gradual and continuous evolution that has seen it grow during the economic development of the Eighties, the gold moment for clothing industry, when the Italian ready-to-wear established in the world as a phenomenon of elegance and style. The founders of the consortium had the intuition to create a commercial reality that has proved its validity over the long term: today the associated are 190, divided into 20 pavilions and distributed over an area of 140 thousand square meters, with no less than 2 km square windows, in Cernusco sul Naviglio, near Milan. (...) Applicazioni e graffiti – messaggi iconici in stile street art – appaiono su felpe, t-shirt, camicie e denim. Stampe animalier e camouflage animano interni a contrasto. Giovanni Giannoni Il Gufo @ PH. But the petals were folded tight, as though it were still a bud. The woman kissed its lovely red and yellow petals, and just as she kissed it, the flower gave out a loud pop! and flew open […] on the green cushion in the middle of it sat a tiny girl. there grew up a large handsome flower, something like a tulip in appearance, but with its leaves still tightly closed as if it were still a bud. […] A nicely polished walnut shell served as her cradle. Her mattress was made of the blue petals of violets, and a rose petal was pulled up to cover her” This is from Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale “Thumbelina”. The 2016 spring-summer elegance for kids takes its inspiration from fairytales and an enchanted garden to celebrate the most sophisticated summer. Little princesses will be wearing softly-shaped dresses in doubled organza embellished with lurex and sequins to call up the image of a flower with light, colorful petals. Clean lines, broken only by georgette appliqués that are as light as petals. Lamé brocades with floral cutouts. Ottoman printed with graceful hydrangeas. Floral motifs light up all the fabrics: the ultra-lightweight nylon of the short jackets, the crisp taffetas of special occasion dresses, the doubled tulle blouses, the fresh cotton skirts, the organza bustiers and the cardigans made of the finest yarns. Rhinestones sparkle – trompe l’oeil dewdrops - inside the corollas of the daisies. The prints evoke a forest filled with colorful fragrant flowers, alongside of butterfly and daisy appliqués on tulle and super-light cotton voile. There is fine lace, of course, and also contemporary touches, like neoprene and geometric designs that give the wardrobe a new freshness. The palette is delicate: soft shades of pink alongside side of sky and indigo blues, white and aqua. 17 18 Ctm Magazine Codename: Indigo On the one hand, the little gentlemen with the most classic charm will be wearing herringbone English linen suits made according to the finest Italian sartorial traditions: tailored jackets, Bermudas and tuxedoes are the key items for special occasions. On the other hand, looking at Daddy’s outfits, denim will be the key that opens every door, and when it’s interpreted with a light touch and a bit of extra softness it can even be worn on important occasions. Denim is making its entrée into the formal wardrobe with bold and modern colors – with every shade of indigo taking the lead: from the purest shade to délavé without forgetting the sailor boy’s navy blue. Jackets are deconstructed and the overall effect is looser. The Summer Gang The toughest collections in the urban segment look to contemporary Japanese and U.S. streetwear trends. Little hipsters wear military- and rock-inspired clothes, while innovative treatments and colors give the basic items a new allure. The classic rock inclinations like leather biker jackets, torn and distressed denim and sparkling studs is flanked by a story told through multicolor details, touches of mesh knit and patches. Appliqués and graffiti – iconic messages in street style art – appear on sweatshirts, tees, shirts and jeans. Camouflage patterns, checks, stripes and combinations of heterogeneous materials enliven the most basic items. Denim jackets have fleece sleeves, the ecoleather jacket has a nylon body and the soft, jersey pants have nylon-reinforced knees. For the girls, freedom and dynamism are expressed through fun changes. T-shirts and sweats play with volumes; the freestyle contaminates sporty items – bomber jackets, boxing-style shorts, tank tops and maxisweatshirts – to wear with contrasting sequined mini-dresses. The must-haves: the hooded fleece running suit that opens at the back, and the shorts that sparkle with sequins to wear with a fleece maxi-bag decorated with pop graphics. The avant-garde collections: between dreams and reality The avant-garde collections for next springsummer come from a dream with eyes wide open, where a retro touch is constantly refreshed by pure research content. Luxury allure is muted a bit when it comes to basic, everyday wear. Clean lines, super-soft materials developed for comfort and a perfect fit. Like the washed corduroy vintage Savile Row jackets to wear with hoodies, or the slim-fit running-suit pants for boys. Animal and camouflage prints enliven the contrasting linings. For the girls: sweaters, leggings and tube dresses to layer: easy-care clothes that are soft, reversible and made to last. Organic cotton is the key player along with fine 100% cashmere items for cool evenings. Lines are summery, and terry holds onto winter memories. Sometimes we see light clouds floating between the ethereal transparencies of nettles, neutral off-whites, exclusive allover and placed prints created with water-based dyes: the fruit of in-depth technical research combined with extraordinary craft skills. Credits AKAstudio-collective @Enrico Labriola 33 @Enrico Ctm Labriola Magazine 34 PITTI UOMO TRENDS P/E 2016, GO A HEAD WITH COLOURS Strong colours invade both casual and tailored. The tie comes back in vogue, typical male accessory for a novelty trend. The tie comes back to fashion, it is really true, a great revenge for an accessory which has been merely dedicated to men in order to fight the trend of Genderless. In fact it is actually the unisex characteristic that leads the common theme of recent fashion. In combination with an opening to any kind of influence in which the garments become male or female depending on the wearer. Lets analyse the "tie trend", whose presence is detected in collections of different types. To name one, Marinella abandons the obvious tie with small polka dots to give space to fantasies, new forms, from flowers to the colour and from narrow to baggy. Certain companies have carried out a conceptual work, transforming the tie in polyhydric object which retains the ability to adapt itself to different styles as in classical, sportive, casual and urban. Also the fabrics used to produce them could be considered as unseal. These can be seen in denim, small floral fantasies, satined colours, with three, five to twelve creases, unlined and lined, defined as a completely different interpretation of this small male accessory. But this “tie trend” recovers also the transformism that fashion likes much. There is also the translation of the tie in clothing, go-ahead with regimental stripes on a new model of jacket-vest (in Jersey or cotton jacquard) reproducing the enlargement and extension of the tie itself. We can also find the typical prints of the tie on trousers, jackets and shirts, confirming that even the most urban lines have fallen under this trend. The transfer of the idea of the tie in clothing might seem simple, and might be considered more difficult if this process would be applied to a bag. Instead we find the chromatic lights of ties in blue skin bags that changes from an office folder to a handy weekend bag. The tapered shape of the tie is able to become a shoe, turning a loafer in a tie foot, with shades of colours and shapes that look good on the foot, but they have first been tested on the neck. Colour remains the true bond in male fashion trend, seen as an attempt to forget the sobriety of black and the unpopularity of grey. Ermanno Scervino constantly researches the harmonious union of opposites: colours, materials, volumes, apparently so different from each other but aimed to discover the shades of femininity in a couture language. For Autumn Winter, Ermanno Scervino chooses the rigour and the patterns of masculine fabrics, among all the reinterpretation of pied-de-poule, making it macro - on mini bon-ton dresses – in order to express a new sensuality. “I love playing with the identity of gender, never calling it into question” said Ermanno Scervino “My woman is always feminine even when she is wearing a masculine over coat. It can be perfect to enhance her seductiveness.” As a tribute to the cult item from the beginning: the couture duvet is the key player of wide skirts and slim fit jackets. The knitwear creations have irregular geometric patterns, inlay works, multicolour prints nearly folk and fur accents. The Ermanno Scervino woman is wearing crop-top armour with embroidered crystals, on Mongolia skirts, wild and glamorous. Her uniform is the military inspired coat, the lights of the cities where she lives become brooches, chokers, jewelry and embroideries, that illuminate bustier dresses and outerwear. In daywear the royal blue is protagonist, the new nuance that the designer says: “I look at the nature and I see blue everywhere, it is an intense and enchanting colour.” Skirts with pockets and plissé pleats, démi-couture creations, are expressed by the materials of the collection. Nel Medioevo tutto era circondato da “semplicità, sia nei palazzi che nelle villette di campagna”. 45 46 Ctm Magazine William Morris, our national treasure, is more popular than we can ever remember. It is against this backdrop that Morris & Co. launches the third volume of the successful Archive collections in March 2015. This celebration of Morris’ patterns incorporates a mix of designs; from faithful reproductions of classics, through exquisite monochromatics, to an updated digital scenic print which captures the essence of Morris’ tapestries. Alison Gee, head designer of Morris & Co., comments on the design process: “This collection was a delight to work on. The initial concept was to showcase some of Morris’ simple monochromatic designs, developing patterns that would have a pared back, easy to use appeal that could combine with the existing feature patterns of the previous Archive collections. The design process provided the opportunity to explore Morris’ ceramic tiles, a medium that we hadn’t looked at previously and one which proved to be the perfect inspiration. We believe these designs will have appeal to a new Morris customer. As the collection evolved however, there were designs that we could simply not leave in the archive drawers. We could not resist the temptation to bring magnificent patterns such as ‘Snakeshead’ (reputedly one of Morris’ favourite prints) and ‘Seaweed’ back to life.” As the collection showstopper, Alison has painted a scenic design which takes inspiration from ‘The Brook’ by J. H. Dearle, Morris’ protégé, and later, art director of the company. It incorporates elements inspired by the Holy Grail Tapestries and is digitally printed to capture the detail in the artwork. The collection comprises ten printed fabrics, all suitable for drapes and upholstery, nine wallpapers and five exquisite embroideries, all coloured in the signature rich and warm colour palette of the Morris & Co. range. PRINTS AND WALLCOVERINGS All prints are suitable for curtains and upholstery usage. PRIMROSE & COLUMBINE Morris interpreted two of the flower motifs from his early wallpapers into tile designs c. 1865. They were modified from the wallpaper so that they could be hand-painted with quick brushstrokes onto the tiles. The unsophisticated drawings of the flowers appealed to Morris as they kept a feeling of cottage gardens; “I have the unmistakeable suggestions of gardens and fields.” This new fabric version of this tile design replicates the simplicity and freshness of those beautiful Morris tiles and is printed onto linen union in four colourways. ROSEHIP ‘Rosehip’ is taken from a tile design attributed to either Morris or William De Morgan. De Morgan worked with Morris designing stained glass until he started up his own tile making business. Many of De Morgan’s early designs show a strong Morris influence, both in the motifs he used and in an adherence to some of Morris’ principles of pattern making. This fabric and wallpaper interpretation of the pattern creates a more interlocking design. The motifs were hand cut and hand printed from lino, giving an authentic, hand block printed look. The fabric, printed onto a gorgeous linen/viscose mix, is available in six colourways and is complemented by wallpaper, available in seven colourways. SWANS The Swans tile was designed by Morris c.1862. These original small tiles were used repeatedly as patterned tiled borders, often around narrative scenes painted onto tiles. They were also used mixed with other tiles. Examples are found in the fireplace at Kelmscott Manor. The ‘Swans’ fabric recreates the look of the very tonal, spontaneous hand-painted tiles and is available in two colourways, printed onto linen union. GRAPEVINE The classic theme of the vine and its grapes recurs in Morris’ work. This new design is reminiscent of the type of illustrations used in the borders of his printed manuscripts. It is printed on a fabulous viscose/ linen quality and is available in four colourways. the original partners of Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. She was an accomplished craftswoman, contributing with her sister Lucy to the firm’s production of embroideries, painted tiles, painted pottery and gesso decoration. ‘Bramble’ is available in four colourways as printed fabric and five on wide width (68cm) wallpaper. SNAKESHEAD PIMPERNEL Designed by William Morris in 1876, the design was originally block printed onto cotton. Between 1875 and 1877 Morris produced a small group of patterns influenced by the colouring and patterns of Indian textiles. This design was one of Morris’s own favourites among his printed chintzes. The design takes its name from the nodding snakeshead fritillary blooms that complement the larger, more formal motifs. The dramatic flame like motif and alternating spiky clusters of foliage seem held in suspension by the delicate scrolling tendrils that form the background. Four rich colourways have been printed onto linen union. Designed by William Morris as wallpaper in 1876, this pattern is typical of some of Morris’ greatest designs and hung in the dining room at Kelmscott House, Hammersmith. The printed fabric interpretation is available in four colourways. MORRIS SEAWEED An authentic reproduction from a document in the Morris & Co. archive, ‘Morris Seaweed’ was designed by J. H. Dearle in 1901. It was one of the most popular designs he created, a free flowing pattern which captures the underwater movement of plants and suggests how he looked toward the sinuous curves of Art Nouveau. It is now printed onto beautiful soft cotton and is available in four colourways. THE BROOK For Morris, tapestry was the highest form of decorative fabric. Inspired in part by the Brook Tapestry by J. H. Dearle and the friezes that sit beneath the Holy Grail Tapestries, ‘The Brook’ has been newly created for 2015. Digital printing recreates all the crispness and abundance of beautiful detail, which was the special characteristic of medieval tapestries. One colourway is printed on sumptuous cotton velvet, and two on textured linen/viscose cloth. It is also printed in two colourways as wide width (140cm wide) wallpaper, sold by the metre. TULIP Morris drew five textiles in 1875 and this is one of three (with Marigold and Larkspur) registered on the same day. All three are densely floriated with a repeating zigzag of wavy leaves. ‘Tulip’ is printed in four colourways in a way that captures the block printed technique of the original that would have been printed using natural vegetable dyes. BRAMBLE Designed by Kate Faulkner in 1879, ‘Bramble’ has an all-over pattern of blackberry briars, with berries and white flowers on a green ground. Kate was the sister of Charles Faulkner, who was one of 47 48 Ctm Magazine ARBUTUS A late Morris & Co. print, ‘Arbutus’ was designed by Kathleen Kersey, a member of the Morris & Co. design studio on the eve of the First World War. This wallpaper is available in five colourways. JASMINE ‘Jasmine’ was originally designed in 1872 by Morris. The background pattern is an all-over design of hawthorn leaves with blossoms and a meandering jasmine trail over the top. This wallpaper is available in five colourways and was the inspiration for ‘Jasmine Embroidery’. MARY ISOBEL ‘Mary Isobel’ has been adapted from an embroidery designed in the 1890s by J. H. Dearle and shows scrolling acanthus leaves and flowers. The original fabric was embroidered in Adelaide, Australia by Mary Isobel Barr Smith, who probably ordered it from Morris & Co. as a kit. Morris & Co. first printed this design on linen in 2008 and then reissued it as an embroidery in 2011. This wallpaper version is available in five colourways. BACHELORS BUTTON A monochromatic depiction of cornflowers (known in folklore as Bachelors Buttons as they were worn by young men in love), ‘Bachelors Button’ wallpaper is available in seven colourways. HONEYSUCKLE AND TULIP First produced in 1876 Honeysuckle & Tulip was an early Morris fabric design depicting entwined foliage and flower motifs in a mirrored pattern repeat. The effect is of a trellis circling large multi petalled tulips and stylised honeysuckle. The inspiration to convert the pattern to wallpaper, came from the Honeysuckle bedroom at Wightwick Manor where the fabric was used as a magnificent wall hanging EMBROIDERIES WOODLAND ANIMALS This charming monochromatic embroidery depicting boxing hares, squirrels and deer was inspired by the various animal tiles by De Morgan. The foliage in the ground is screen printed, over which three different animal groups are embroidered. It is available in two colourways. JASMINE EMBROIDERY This design was taken from ‘Jasmine’ wallpaper, designed by Morris in 1872. In this fabric version, the all-over background of hawthorn leaves is printed and the meandering jasmine trail is embroidered over the top, creating a very pretty and feminine design. It is available in three colourways and is suitable for drapes. ARTICHOKE EMBROIDERY ‘Artichoke Embroidery’ is an exquisite embroidered silk. Inspired by Morris’ design ‘Artichoke’ from 1877, it has repeating patterns of large traditional motifs, illustrating his preoccupation and love of near Eastern and Italian woven silks and velvets. Morris studied a number of these at the South Kensington Museum, now the V&A. Retaining the authenticity and beauty of the original, it is now available in four colourways and is recommended for curtains. WOODLAND TREE EMBROIDERY This design was inspired by Morris’ numerous embroidered tree designs. It is hand-knotted onto a linen ground to create a fabric with an organic feel. This lovely linen/cotton mix quality is available in four easy to live with colours. WIGHTWICK EMBROIDERY This distinctive Ottoman design is taken from the mantelpiece hanging in the Drawing Room at Wightwick Manor, Wolverhampton. Dating back to 1893, it would most probably have been embroidered by the lady of the house, Flora Mander. It was designed to work with the Morris & Co. ‘Dove and Rose’ wallpaper featured on the walls and is a unique motif within the house. This new reproduction is very close to the original and is available in three colourways. A note about William Morris and Ceramic Tiles Morris started to design tiles in 1862 when he set about decorating his new home, The Red House, and could find nothing available in the market place that he liked. He bought plain white tiles from Holland and decorated them himself, often assisted by other members of ‘The Firm’ and their friends, particularly Kate and Lucy Faulkner. The tiles were fired in the same kiln as his stained glass, in the basement of Red Lion Square. By the late 1860s, tiles were well established in the public mind, through international exhibitions and whether because of their decorative qualities, or their hygienic advantages, they became a must have decorative item within the home, for anyone with the least pretence to fashion. His designs for the tiles followed his design ideal; honest use of materials and “the simplicity and nobility of workmanship”. Morris expected everything “to look as natural, nay as lovely, as the green field, the riverbank, or the mountain flint”. In the Middle Ages there was “Simplicity everywhere, in the palace as well as the cottage.” 49 50 Ctm Magazine SALUTE E BELLEZZA Nuova gamma di sieri Laser Fx™ per combattere i segni del tempo, rassodare la pelle ed illuminare l'incarnato La Gamma Laser del Dr.Brandt Dr.Brandt presenta la sua nuova linea Laser Fx™, una serie di trattamenti originariamente concepiti dal Dr Brandt appositamente per i suoi pazienti. That in turn causes wrinkles, lines and a loss of that healthy glow we associate with being young. Age spots are caused by the constant exposure to sun and tend to most appear on our face, neck and the back of our hands. Those of us who tanned while we were younger will probably be kicking ourselves for this right about now. Caring for your skin when you’re younger is really important. Removing dirt and impurities regularly, drinking plenty of water, getting enough sleep and using products that take care of our skin are all important.
