CONGRESS VENUE

Muggia, a pivotal town between Italy and Slovenia, just a

two countries.
The Congress venue is a marina located near an Iron
Age archeological settlement, Roman surface and
submarine traces, a medieval church, villages of
Venetian culture, and close to Trieste, a former port of
the Hapsburg Empire now hosting major scientific and
technological institutions.
Porto San Rocco also faces a contaminated site, where
heavy industries and waste treatment plants are hosted.
A special session of the Congress will be held at the
Biblioteca Statale of Trieste, where books that have
been restored in recent years wil be exhibited.

AIMS OF THE CONGRESS
th
In its 11 Congress, the Environmental and Cultural Heritage
Branch of the Italian Chemical Society aims at gathering
researchers and technologists from chemical disciplines
involved in environmental sustainability, and conservation
and restoration of cultural heritage, witnessing the role of
scientific society being actively present in the social, cultural
and economic tissue of Europe during the 21st century.
The Friuli Venezia Giulia region, hosting the Congress, for
vocation and need is open to the globalized world. It vests in
its scientific community considerable expectations on key
problems having impact on welfare and the quality of life:
challenges of innovation, renewable energy supplies, the
safeguard of cultural heritage and common environment that
is identity and memory of people.
Special sessions are planned on polluted coastal zones and
on chemical technologies applied to the conservation and
restoration of books and papers.
A special event will be focused on exchanging experiences
between scientific societies of EU and candidate countries,
in order to tackle common problems and find shareable
solutions, that could benefit both public and private research
bodies.
The Official language of the Congress is Italian.
Simultaneous Italian/English interpretation is envisaged.
