Study of natural processes that change concentrations
Solute
These processes can be categorized into two broad groups:
•transport
•transformation
Transport refers to those processes which move substances through
the hydrosphere by physical means. The two primary modes of
transport are advection (transport associated with the flow of a fluid)
and diffusion (transport associated with random motions within a fluid).
The second process, transformation, refers to those processes that
change a substance of interest into another substance
Molecolar Diffusion
Think to a bottle of perfume when it is
opened in an empty room…..
Diffusion has two primary properties: it is random in
nature, and transport is from regions of high concentration
to low concentration, with an equilibrium state of uniform
concentration.
