Christmas initiatives The borgo illuminated on the other side of the age‐old Tiberius’ Bridge is animated by the artistic Nativity scene in the cloister of the church (from 17th December), Christmas decorations, a small market, art, music, shows, cinema for children, gourmet products, lottery and countless small Christmas initiatives by the owners of the borgo’s shops and other activities on 10th December: buskers on 16th and 24th December: Pipers on the streets of the Borgo 17th and 18th December: bell concert 15th – 31st December: “La Chesa adubeda” the houses of the Borgo dress up for the festivities, taking part in a competition for the most beautiful house. The Surgeon’s Domus and the City Museum invite the pubic to a guided visit in the area of the excavations that revealed the medical taberna with the richest set of surgical instruments from the Roman period that has reached the present day intact. Thursday 5th January, 10.00 am The colours of Christmas: Painted nativity scenes on Covignano Hill The splendid painting by Giorgio Vasari, with the three Wise Men worshiping the Infant Jesus, the San Fortunato church and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Grace, caskets of treasures and devotion. Sunday 8th January, 10.00 am Art and faith in Rimini’s churches The portrayal of the Nativity Church of Saints Bartolomeo and Marino (Santa Rita), Sant’ Agostino Church, City Museum. The route, organized by Michela Cesarini, winds its way between the Church of Saints Bartolomeo and Marino, where a bright fresco with the Nativity can be admired, the Church of Sant’Agostino, which hosts a splendid frontal in scagliola decorated with the same theme, and the City Museum, where there is an outstanding 17th century painting with the Adoration of the shepherds, donated last century by the marquise Elena Des Vergers. Admission free Saturday 17th December, 6.00 pm – Piazza Cavour Inauguration FAR FAR‐Fabbrica Arte Rimini moderna e contemporanea (Rimini modern & contemporary Art Factory) The transformed spaces of the Podestà and Arengo Palaces host a new centre for producing and exhibiting the arts: Rimini' new permanent modern & contemporary art gallery. A landscape of ideas and shapes, a workshop of senses and sentiments that will host design, painting, sculpture, photography, video, installations and performances, as well as seminar, conference and workshop activities. The project is ideally linked with a tradition in contemporary art that Rimini experienced from the sixties to the eighties and involves other Rimini "places". The first event, on 17th December, is the exhibition "Alcuni di noi" by Flavio Marchetti, over a hundred photos (with text) of a hundred well‐known or lesser‐known Rimini "personalities", in which the photographer meets the "subject" with no classification or sociological intentions. A web of stories thus emerges that tends to become the story of an entire community. The exhibition, which will remain open until January 15th, is an ideal greeting to the town, inaugurating a season of exhibitions that, covering contemporary issues, will look for links with history and memories. Hours: 10am – 1pm / 4 – 7.30pm. From January there will be four exhibitions. The series dedicated to Rimini’s new contemporary course will be opened by an important artist, Serse (Serse Roma, born in San Polo del Piave in 1952). He will be followed by Simone Pellegrini (Ancona 1972, lives and works in Bologna). Then Graziano Spinosi (Bologna 1958, lives and works in Santarcangelo). In September, Ketty Tagliati will undertake an exhibition project dedicated to the event that will be held simultaneously in Ferrara, “The mad years. TheParis of Modigliani, Picasso and Dalì ”. An important section of the exhibition, dedicated to American 20th century painting, will be hosted in the Palazzo Sums in San Marino, taking the form of a completely independent exhibition entitled "From Hopper to Warhol".
