1. ELEGIBILITY
The International Singing Competition for the main
roles of AIDA by Giuseppe Verdi is open to all singers
regardless the nationality. Applicants are required to
know the entire opera in Italian by heart.
They have to sing one of following roles by heart:
•The candidate’s address, phone/fax number and
e-mail
SOPRANO: Aida
MEZZOSOPRANO: Amneris
TENOR: Radames / un Messaggero
BARITONE: Amonasro
BASS: Ramfis / il Re d’Egitto
•Candidate photo in .jpg format (at least 2, one
close-up and one full body shot).
2. AGE
The age limit for all the roles is 38 years (born after
1972, December 31st).
3. REGISTRATION AND OBLIGATION
The registration form must be received with the
following material:
•Application form
•CD format audio recording of an aria or scene from
Aida and two Verdi arias of your choice. CD audio
recording (audio CD: 44.1khz - 16bit)
•Indication of the role of Aida that the candidate will
present in the selection
•Photocopy of identification document (passport for
not ue-citizen)
•Documents (or certified copies) of qualification.
•Curriculum vitae
•Copy of payment receipt for italian audition (see
below)
•Copy of payment receipt for italian audition (see
below).
Those wishing to audition at the International Opera
and Poetry Institute are asked to pay a joining fee
of 50 Euros to be transferred to the current bank
account detailed below:

Incomplete requests
will not be accepted
All candidates must ask information from Institution
chosen where they will send the necessary material
all the information concerning deadlines for the
selection applications, since they are different from
one Institution to another.
Last sending date for Italy (i.i.o.p.) October, 10th 2011.

The registration does not entitle the candidate to
take part in the selections.
The selection juries from each of the above
institutions reserve the right to make a preliminary
choice on the materials received. The Competition
Office will notify the selected candidates.
By sending the application form, all participants
understand that, in the event of winning any role
of the competition, they are bound by contract
to participate in the rehearsals and performances
of the opera in the producer theatres, according
to the terms and conditions of the international
agreement.
The material received by the Competition Office
will not be returned.
4. STAGES OF THE COMPETITION
5. FINAL
Selections will be organized according to the different
geographical areas and will be scheduled as follows:
The chosen candidates will take part in the final selection
which will take place in Verona on 5, 6 and 7 December 2011.

Travel expenses and accommodation in Verona are the
responsibility of the candidate.

Each institution will proceed to make a selection of the
candidates and will send a CD with the requested recording
at point 3 and at least 2 photos (close-up and entire
body in .jpg format), the CV, copy of the passport and the
application form signed by the selection jury of the Istituto
Internazionale per l’Opera e la Poesia that will notify the final
selection based on the received material.
The Istituto Internazionale per l’Opera e la Poesia will
reimburse winners only for rail or air travel tickets to Verona
during the auditioning period and for return to their country
of residence at the end of said period.
•Rail tickets (2nd class) will be reimbursed via bank transfer
only once said tickets have been received.
•Air travel tickets will be reimbursed according to the
conditions detailed in the table below via bank transfer
only once payment receipt and outbound and return
boarding cards for the flight have been received.
The reimburse is impossible by lack of the mentioned
travel documents.
Flight class: ECONOMY
Flights from the EU: maximum reimbursement 600 Euro
Inter-continental flights: maximum reimbursement 1200 Euro
•Candidates having travelled by car will be reimbursed
for motorway toll charges plus 0.25 Euro/km (fuel not
included) upon presentation of the vehicle registration
certificate and the highway receipts.
6. PRIZES
7. INTERNATIONAL JURY
The competition winners will have the opportunity to
take part in official on-stage performances of the opera
at the Verona Philharmonic Theatre as part of the Arena
Foundation programme. The Foundation’s Artistic Directors’
have the right to approve the roles definitive holder, and
excepting any possible schedule changes and/or variations
required due to the Verona Arena Foundation’s working
production needs.
As an indication, the first performance is scheduled for
October 2012.
Accommodation and board are the responsibility of the
artist.
The International Jury will be chaired by Maestro Umberto
Fanni, Arena Foundation’s Artistic Director della di Verona
and composed by a panel of representatives of the
Institutions promoting the Competition.
The Arena Foundation reserves the right to engage
outside artists in the competition to offer performances
and cover the required parts.
The competition organisers reserve the right to record
performances subject to prior renunciation of any economic
rights on artists’ part.
Each candidate accepted to the finals will be required to
sign a release order in this regard: signature of said release
order will be a condition of participation in the final.
The Philharmonic Academy is offering a prize for the winner
of the role of Aida, who will be selected by the International
Judge Panel.
The Verona municipality is offering a prize for the winner
of the role of Radames, who will be selected by the
International Judge Panel.
8. RIGHTS AND CONTENTION
The Judging Committee reserves the rights to withhold the
award for one or more roles in the competition.
The Organizing Committee retains the right to make any
alterations it considers necessary.
In case of contention it will be evaluated according to
UNESCO procedures.
